Nightcrawler is awesome cause he can teleport through walls, otherwise it seems like a standard platformer. The sound effects are subpar for Genesis though. -

I'll be 38 in June 😂 it was a privilege growing up in our era and then being alive today to play emulators and watch others play these games again.
Yup 41 here...had this game...and it was tough...lot of long nigts...lol
in 5 more months. :P Man, Michael Jackson was right when he said,"The Sega Genesis sound chip is just AWFUL!"
....Unless you're playing games by Japanese Devs that is. :P They didn't know what they were doing in NA more than half the time.

It was hard, but not impossible. I do remember beating this game, but it was not necessarily a fun experience. It was more frustrating, and not particularly satisfying. When you hit or killed things, it didn’t feel great. It just felt like, “oh yay I survived that”

This was the console era I grew up on. The first system I ever owned was a Sega Genesis and I've been a dedicated gamer since. The sounds from this entire console generation is pure nostalgia

Turning 30 this year
MAN! I actually beat this game but mojo's level took me forever to beat. I can remember I got to the end and had no idea how to "restart the computer." Finally one day, I hit reset button on my Sega to start over because I was so frustrated and I cleared the level. I will never forget how shocked I was you had to restart the Sega. Who the heck thought that was a good idea?

I have to say this is one of the hardest x men games ever. Who would have thought you have to "press" the reset button on the Mojo stage. It took me like 6 months to figure that out. On top of that, I think my dad told me to do that. Just imagine.

X-Men 2 is way harder. This game is so hard though. It's a lot of stuff you have to know. You have to memorize which characters are good for each level. The Reset the Computer I was destroying it then went everywhere in the level to find where the exit was. Then I called the 1-900 number back in the day as I didn't buy magazines yet at that point in time. They said just press reset on your genesis. Then fighting Magneto that was really hard to figure out too.

Like who - especially a kid - would take the risk of getting to the next to the last stage and press "reset" on the console to move to the next round, when it could reset the whole game?! It was a very physical console interaction game - like the cheat code: For the "infinite lives" cheat code involved removing and reinserting the joystick in the other port.

everytime i would kill a boss when i played this as my first game ever as a kid, it always sounded like a toilet flushing whenever you would defeat a boss lol. And now that i have grown it still sounds like that LOL

Played this game when I was a kid and never understood why I couldn't progress further after defeating Mojo. Kept trying for months and one day it got on my nerve and I slammed the reset button hard.

That Magneto bass 0:35 is so soothing it gives me chills, I love it.

Another thing I never knew is that you could ride on the back of the green pterodactyl in the Savage Land to get over the part with the platforms easier. Have to be fast to catch him, though.
Whoever was cooking with Professor X’s philosophical monologue at the end deserves a raise.
This is the supreme tip with Nightcrawler: If you bamf without moving around you barely decrease the power bar with two amazing advantages: you become untouchable yet deadly for any enemies that touch you (including bosses). i.e. in the level 12:22 you can idle -bamf in front of the gate of the ship; enemies will die as they come out and you wont be affected by cruise speed.
This tip saves enough power to shortcut throughout the levels.

@@Stridewise Amen. He could jump-attack diagonally, capable of being untouchable yet able to cause damage plus, he was able to teleport across walls. Enough to break the game!
@@cuacomekiki yeah those diagonal kicks were boss too. Wolverine had to have his claws out to do moves like that

I bought it because Storm was on the cover. Imagine how pissed I was when I realized I couldn't play as Storm or even Rogue. I threw it away. No joke. lol

This game always gave me a weird feeling of anxiety for some reason. Especially Mojo's stage, (not because of the reset mechanic) the whole level has this otherwordly depressing and dreadful tone to it. Everytime I play this game and made it to Mojo's stage I feel so much anxiety, the feeling is very different from playing straight up horror games. The dread cuts to the bone, even now after watching the playthrough i still feel the same dread I do when I am the one playing.
I guess im weird to have such feelings playing this game :p

My favorite character to play was Wolverine. I’m unsure if it’s a hidden move or a glitch but if you use up his power bar and try to use it again, he’ll sometime go into a berserk rage where he simply stand and attack left and right with his claw and continuously lose health. Or use his diving claw attack with no power and he’ll go into the same berserk state but continuously have the diving attack animation but will slide on the floor. I initially say hidden move because it’s accurate to the comics how Wolverine can go berserk and he’s pretty much unstoppable in that state until he’s worn out.

30:13 I played this level so many times and couldn't find a way to reset the computer. I got so frustrated I press reset on Sega genesis then saw 010100100100101010 🤯. Oh yeah Sega Genesis is a computer 🤦♂️.
I loved this game! It was the best comic book video game out at the time. It's amazing how far video games have come.

Thank you for playing this. It’s nice to see the game from start to finish since I could never beat it as a kid. Brought back so many childhood memories of my cousin & I playing this & just getting wrecked all the time by stage two. I’m probably going to give it another shot now that I’m older.
The music in the Magneto fight sounds way too much like a series of long farts for my liking.

I still love this game. One of my first games when it originally came out. Got it for my fifth birthday with the genesis console along with Sonic one. I could only beat it if I had nightcrawler though
The only thing I didn't care for was being forced to play it on hard difficulty in order to beat the game.
This was my go-to rental when the new releases were either already rented by someone else or appeared untrustworthy of spending my one-game-per-weekend rental allowance.

Man I was obsessed with this game as a kid. My step dad bought it from a small video rental place because it was impossible to find and I'd rented it so much! 😂
I was stuck on that feckin shuttle for AGES because I didn't realise you had to kill a number of soldiers! 😂 I'd spend hours as wolverine dodging rocks, trying to heal!
Getting the goggles in Muri Island stumped me too.
But I absolutely remember getting to the reset part and it just clicking... 'maybe I should reset this?'
A few years later the same thought process helped in MGS when you were told to look on the back of the case for Meryl's Codec frequency.
Sure Xmen 2 was flashier and you could play as Magneto and Psylocke... But it had NONE of the charm this one had. Wolverine Adamantium rage was a piss poor game that was waaaaaay too hard. Cool roster of characters though.
Remember the weird cheat system in this game? You had to stand under panels and press buttons etc

This was my game back in the mid 90's I never could bet it though, It was to difficult, no cheats on sega and no walk through like on youtube.
jason4275 there actually was a cheat code. That was the only way I was able to beat it.
That introduction though... Nostalgia at its finest... I was 7yrs old when this came out and I'm 33 now. Man am I old.

Omg. I played this game way too much as a kid that I memorized every pattern of the enemies that I, at one point, I can finish the game with not much damage.
I love that Nightcrawler can telefrag people. It makes my heart happy.

I rented this when I was little and I couldn't beat the first level. Juggernaut's hit detection is so janky, I always use the Rogue and Storm for him. Then the water fall bridge I always died on.
I could never beat this game without the game genie.
Anybody else plays the theme song in their head when you had something important to do?
Tip: Juggernaut can only be damaged when he is standing, and it has to be a jumping attack on the head. Loved watching this, one of my favorite games on the Genesis
Tip: you can skip him and Sabretooth by using Iceman to create a walkway above the screen he spawns on.

Nah the sequel to this way WAY better. Much tighter controls. Better graphics, better mutant power mechanics
no X-men Mutant apocalypse and X-men 2 are better than this game.

Eeeeeeewwww! This game brings back memories! This was my first Sega Genesis game, I used to play this all the time.
I remember that level where you had to reset the computer or CPU, that level stumped me and my brother for a moment.
I finally figured out what they meant and eventually beat the whole game. This game is hard, it took me a whole Summer to beat it though.
This game was ridiculously hard the first time I played it. Even more than 10 years later it still was rough. The sentinel stage is brutal and I don't think I ever made it further than that. Damn Gambit can't crouch attack for anything without taking a hit.
Yeah, that Sentinel stage was brutal. It took many tries before finally beating the stage. Then a new headache emerged on the following stage. I eventually beat the game, but it came with much stress. Lol

Take some back. Back in 2003 my aunt took me to GameStop, this is when they sold the retro games as well, she told me to pick out a system and a few games so I picked out a Genesis with X-Men, Virtual Fighter 2, Lion King and Phantom 2040. This X-Men game here provided me with tons of entertainment.
This game was hard af back in the day.
