I just beat it today, the Magneto fight is still hard. That's where me and my younger brother would lose most lives back in the day and then couldn't beat all the clones at the end. Never made it past the Wolverine clone. I didn't know back then I was that close. Just came to view the video to see how they did the long play. Being cheap with Magneto and shooting from range is the only way I could do it too lol.
It wasn't an easy one for sure, my cousin and I bought it when it came out. Still a great game though, the first half has such great replay value alone.
My absolute favorite game. Should go back and play it. Turns out where I was dying, I was only a level away from finishing the game when I was like 8. Last I played it, unfortunately.
I remember I used to ALWAYS use Cyclops or Gambit on the second part of the sentinel level just so I could stay back and fight from a distance when fighting the boss. That whole level and it's self-destruct sequence is still one of my favorite memories in gaming.
Absolutely. I remember playing it with my brother and his friend. We lost a couple of times until we figure the correct escape route. The gamplays make it look easy, but back in the day when we played it without any guidance at all, it was very hard.
This was the best! After beating it, i would play over and over, i loved how they used all kinds of different characters you rarely see. The best X-Men game ever.
Did you know in the first level, the snow level, the music changes depending on what character is brought forth. If there's two players the music from each character would be fused together for a perfect melody
My cousin and I played this on Sega Channel whenever we could. I remember the pre-title gameplay gave you different characters, seemingly at random. Very cool desgin.
10:45 in this era i remember the escape levels with limited time and everything crumbling and exploding, with awesome music that keeps the atmosphere on edge. was one of the best ideas on adventure games. Used on this game, and Super Metroid just to mention some. I cant believe this idea wasnt recycled on modern games. I loved that kind of escape levels. I would buy a game based entirely on escape levels only.
You should play Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel. Those games have a great story and the big boss fight set pieces are essentially all escape levels that you are pining for.
X-Men 2. It's such a surprisingly fun game, even though I was never able to beat it in my childhood (makes me wonder if I could beat it now if I tried). Much more expansive than the first X-Men game; that's for certain. I also liked the subtle music touches with each character. You can hear it clearly in the intro stage (Cyclops), the first area of the third stage (Gambit), and obviously the final battles. The only thing is that it's such an oddly long game for its genre, or at least feels lengthy with little to no continues. This would have been the kind of game that at least a password feature could have been in place, but I digress. It's still a fun playthough, all that being said.
Me neither. Gameplays on TH-cam make it look like a piece of cake, but it was actually very hard. Not only that but it pretty long and didn't have any passwords or cordes or something to resume the game from certain level.
This game had a cheat code for invulnerability and I think all characters unlocked. The first stage literally happens when you start the game and you get a random character. Nightcrawler was the easiest to make it through with. Really tough game but a lot of fun.
Magneto sucks. I used him at the end to fight the Queen and I got my ass handed to me. His powers are weak in this game. Only The magnetic orb that you can use for his mutant power is useful but it's slow. Also he doesn't fly, he just hovers and he has no melee attacks like the other X-men just shoots out weak energy blasts. My top pick on the X-men that I always chose for this game were NightCrawler, Cyclops, Wolverine and my all time favorite, Gambit.
I remember watching my brother playing this a lot, he first played demo at a mall, then he purchased the game. It was 1997. Oh, the electronic-ish sounds at the intermissions. That's how 90s view the future world.
I remember playing the Master Mold level over and over. It took me forever to remember which game it was that the particular level was in. For some reason I thought it was the X-Men VS Spider-Man game.
What's great about this vid is that I made the same choices when I was a kid at 11-12 for each level. I made it a point to keep each and every X-MEN alive until the end because I didn't know if I needed them or not. For the Jungle though I used Wolverine. It kicked my ass but his healing ability I would wait for it to kick it and I would wait for sure.
Pretty cool game, and as hard as i remember it, even for being a video that is out of the TAS standards of absurdly perfect gameplay, you are pretty good at this mate.
The developers managed to keep the essence of X-Men both in graphics and music. This game aged like wine! 18:31 name of this boss? btw, whenever you hit it is as if he is farting lol 20:55 badass power stance
Use to love this game back in the day. Kind of disappointing to see the player get real sloppy near the end, trying to use Nightcrawler to climb walls and spam teleport to avoid enemies, only to take an absolute beating the whole time. My go-to's were always Psylocke, Wolverine and Magneto.
Here it is. Still my favorite X Men game. I will never forget that first time playing with that instant start. Blew my mind 🤕
That emoji you used LOL
Bones Jackson kick ass profile pic.
I thought my cartridge had some problem so then i read the instruction manual. It was also very cool that you had to beat magneto to play with him
@@NewDawnFadesX and i know what game it comes from 😁
@@henrlima87 Yep. Mutant League Football. 😎
I never beat this game as a kid. After watching this video, the author reassured me that I still probably can’t
The same for me, an awesome game boy way to difficult and stressful
🇧🇷 Jogo difícil dos infernos!

Hahaha same
It's interesting how a studio that is basically lowrung when compared to other studios, ended up developing one of the absolute best games on Genesis.
They originally planned on making a sequel too called X=Women.
That opening that literally drops U in the middle of a snowstorm is the best part of this game. One of the best openings to a video game EVER.
Talk about a “Cold” open.
@@bigdummy6286 Yes, exactly.
My absolute favorite game. Should go back and play it. Turns out where I was dying, I was only a level away from finishing the game when I was like 8. Last I played it, unfortunately.
Best X-MEN game of all time
@Jonathan Williams Never got to play that one, but imagine playing on that 6-player cabinet? That would be awesome
@SuperCrazyPsycho731cmon now I love the classics but the X men Legends series was too good
The arcade would be the best if you could use ur powers whenever you wanted without losing life
This and legends are pretty much tied for me legends is just such a long game
I remember I used to ALWAYS use Cyclops or Gambit on the second part of the sentinel level just so I could stay back and fight from a distance when fighting the boss. That whole level and it's self-destruct sequence is still one of my favorite memories in gaming.

Excellent choice for long range.
@@SeriesTube01 am I the only one thats always wondered how high that bosses voice could go?
If you use beast you can just duck under the electric bolts that come off, you only have to move when the hologram uses its eye bolts
Maaaaaan… these were the days 😢
Graphics in this game are stupendous
Still the best X-Men game. The character sprites were HUGE.
Wordless. A game with a story. A game with actions from start to finish. Congratulations.
this game feels a lot better than many movies!
The 90s cartoon show too
This was the best! After beating it, i would play over and over, i loved how they used all kinds of different characters you rarely see. The best X-Men game ever.
One of my favourite game as a kid. Great game play, amazing music, pure nostalgia

Wow, that is awesome!
@@arkanjoteixeira Gambits theme was my favorite. And it fused well with psylock
There are a few more levels throughout the game that do this with the music.
Dude I had no idea! Thanks for the info!
Bro when that high pitch tone comes on then the beat drops!? 🎧🎼
It’s over, Magneto. I have the high ground!
Another happy landing.
that first boss used to scare the living shit out of me
😂😂😂Look like Zordon from Mighty Morphin
the best x-men game ever I played when I was a child
Getting Magneto blew my mind in this game.
best x-men game! legendary!
One of the best intros in video game history!
My cousin and I played this on Sega Channel whenever we could.
I remember the pre-title gameplay gave you different characters, seemingly at random.
Very cool desgin.
Fun fact: The soundtrack is done by Kurt Harland, who would go onto create the soundtrack for the Soul Reaver games
I was shocked when I found that out like a year ago. I grew up loving Information Society and Legacy of Kain, so was surprised it slipped past me!
Great thing about this one is Cyclops' eye beams fire across the entire screen...not like those short bolts in the first Sega game.
Best X-Men game!
Except mutant apocalypse is better!
@@Jmillz181 slow action? 1 player? No sir......
@@Jmillz181 Mutant Apocalypse isn't even in the same league as Clone Wars.

The only game I know without a opening menu
I know right, I’m here because thought my copy was glitched but this opened exactly same way. No start up menu.
acctually if you stand still at the very beginning the opening will appear.
Atari 2600 games didn't have openings
Joguei d mais esse jogo. MARAVILHA na época..
MAH BOY NIGHTCRAWLER, MY SON!!
this title's aged incredibly well.
After 15 years of not playing this game, I played today. It’s the best looking game on genesis and best X-men game period!
with the sentinel core destroyed, its amazing those elevators still work
This game had a cheat code for invulnerability and I think all characters unlocked. The first stage literally happens when you start the game and you get a random character. Nightcrawler was the easiest to make it through with. Really tough game but a lot of fun.
I spent so much time trying to beat this game as a kid and it could’ve been done in a little over an hour
I loved how Nightcrawler runs in this game. I used to run around like that all the time when i was a kid 😂
Great game. I was able to beat it just once without cheats. This game kicked my ass all the time.
These levels are Soo much better than the first X game!!!
The soundtracks in this were such bangers
I remember the howling sentinel head being unsettling to my child brain and in 2019 it still is.
I didn't have as much fun playing with Magneto as I though I would.

Meh, dat slow pimp walk and his super high jump were enough for me, lol.
*already i managed to even finish the game using him*
he's the most useful in the fight against apocalypse. just float in place and shoot everything
I think it's funny how sparingly the player uses Scott's blasts.

Out of curiosity. How come you havent used your powers at the beginning. The whole point of xmen are their powers. Nothing but crash bandicoot

I just downloaded this on my 3DS. time to finish it once and for all. I am almost at the end fighting the clones then im out of lives.
This sequel was a major step up from the first. I remember beating the first one. I dont think i played this one.
😓What's the hang up with Cyclops blast? I've seen it rarely used in his runs.
You can't shoot and run at the same time. It locks you in place when you fire. Most of the powers are like that.
