They have to sign him or move him by the deadline. Regardless of wheee they are on the standings. Can’t let a player like that walk away for nothing. That’s like letting Matthews go
I think I would go up to 11.5mil on a long term deal for Shesterkin. Think about what Price did for the Habs who were way worse than the Rangers roster at the time. They need to keep Shesterkin and build that winning team around him because he's worth that big ticket deal
What exactly did MTL accomplish with Price? I don't recall them winning. How was MTL "way worse" than NY?. The Devils eliminated the rangers from the playoffs in '23.

You don’t win “multiple cups” paying your goalie 1/4 of your team salary. Hellybuck who is a two time Vezina winner, is making 8.5 in Canada. Elite goaltending is a luxury, not a necessity to win. As VGK, and COL proved. No goalie is worth 12m.

Im split because on one hand goalies over 10 mil dont tend to be performing their contracts and the difference between a 4.5, a 6.4 or a 9.5 mil goalie is often times minuscule if compared to the difference between similarly paid forwards... its night and day.
On the other hand the goaltenders are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to contracts, only 2 were paid over 10 ever, you could be the 6th best paid goaltender at 6.5 .... 6.5 is how much Gallagher is paid in MTL a bottom 6 player.

Pay him 12.5 or less. The tangible things like stats are there. The intangible aspects are huge as well. He is also a "star" for the team in marketing in the largest market. Who of his skill is available? How much would they cost? He took a huge "home town" discount on his current contract. Just saying

Haven’t even heard the price he’s asking for yet but no matter what it is give it to him. Top goalie deserves top pay. Rangers have quite honestly been leaving him out to dry for the last 3 years, obviously he’s gonna be mad. He deserves as much money as he wants
12 million is a lot. I know we’re paying Bobby 10 million, and that has its own risks since goalies are very unpredictable. If this happens, I’m glad he’s getting paid, but the rangers really gotta be careful
That cup really saved Bob’s ridiculous contract, he was extremely inconsistent while playing for the Panthers.
Seems like goalie's this year and perhaps in future want's their money finally.
They had upper echelon and then goalie's at 2,5-5M range. Really few earned over 5M or under 9M. So I think we see these standoff's more and more. Especially next year if wages won't go up to goalie's too. Right now forwards and defence men get the bag.
The real question should be.. will someone else pay him what he wants? As a Yankee fan, they have often allowed players like Igor to go on the market and find out what other teams are willing to pay and bring that back as a foundation to talks. One thing the Yanks hate is bidding against themselves. He's only worth what some GM will pay him. Maybe the Rangers need to let him go to market and find out what teams will pay him before they finalize anything. Maybe they need to take a page from the MLB team in NY and let him find out that value next year. Oh, keep communication open with the player so he knows what they are looking at.. but it also keeps you from bidding against the agent/players threats and actually against what teams will pay.. and if it's too much.. shake his and and thank him for his time and move on.

He's not going to say I'll stay here no matter what. So don't read too much into a you never know. What is more indicative that He's unhappy with their offer is that they haven't yet extended the contract.
I could see him doing something in the pattern of annoying NBA Contracts and sign for 2yrs/$12.5aav/$25M so he gets his massive AAV and then gets his last big deal at age 30 for 4 years (keeping him open for an age 34 under 35 deal where it can be padded a little on the back end) with an age 30 aav of $9.75 ($39M Total).
This would require a lot of love and trust on both sides though. Especially if he divines under the 35 deadline deal that’s front loaded.
I believe goalies are the most important position in hockey usually goalies win championships but with that being said I don't believe you can push for 12 million as a goalie there to much risk look at Price the highest paid goalie get a big pay just to get injured almost at the beginning of has new contract it's a tough position physically to play

That's exactly what I said on another comment when I had said Connor Hellbuyck has been much more consistent over the past few years than Igor Shesterkin & therefore, I don't see him getting $12M+ per year. Let me know what you think
Helleybuck hasn’t been more consistent in the playoffs. That’s when who you have in the net really matters look at Swayman and Shesterkin carrying there teams same thing with Florida. Bob was all of a sudden worth 10 mil but the guy didn’t even start in last years playoffs.

are you NUTTS 12 Mill??????? that will put such a big drain on the salary cap that will force the team to relay on less talent on the rest of the positions. if we give him 12 Mill this mean we can't sign our FA next year. I think if we let Igor go sign another goalie that may be less talented pair him with stronger defensemen and we are in cup contention. IF you remember with King Henrik when he signed that massive contract, it hampered the team in signing talents.

I'm not sold on him at all. He's needs to be a leader to his younger D core. So far he's acting like Mitch Marner. 9.2 He is Worth. J.Swayman should be around 6.7,7.2mill (1-2 year term) given the age cap and the differences in workload so far. He's not The King Yet in MSGC.

Trade him for a top tier prospect tendy or an experienced rookie who’s showing high end talent and a few picks. You could get a fucking haul out of him! If he isn’t going to sign a 88 mill contract, he ain’t worth it. Best goalie in the world doesn’t care about the impact his contract will have on his team, move him for pieces to a successful future. Need to add to that prospect pool, it’s already somewhat there with guys like Perrault and Emery. 2 unprotected 1st rounders and a guy like Dustin Wolf maybe even add in a roster player
If they don't pay him 12 million, another team definitely will.
Why take a guy for 12 millions when you can take a chance on a player like Sam Montembeault? Or Jonathan Quick?
They will cost 4-6 millions less and give you almost the same results. You can get on the payroll another good quality player for that price instead of a filler player.

@@GOCAPSDMV there is something called budget cap. A goalie can hurt their knee like price and be unable to finish that contract. It hurts their teams.

Re invent the goalie market... he is worth the money but i have seen in my lifetime deals like the DePetrio on the islanders. 67.5 mill with a string of injuries only 50 appreances in 5 seasons, and retired 2013 with 8 years left . he is still getting paid till end ..2028 2029... so buyer beware
Since the salary cap is going up players like Marner, Shesterkin, Draisaitl, Swayman, and Reinhart are all asking for that whole $4 million block of cheddar. Kinda greedy but its the oposite of GMs crying poor to save money for a shiny free agent ot next years "big sign".

He's comming up 29 years old, will be 30 , if and when the Rangers make the 2024-25 playoffs. A good goalie, but not the best numbes by far. Rumuors of 13-14 mil over 7 is ridiculous.. Igor has 2.58% 55 games and 1600 pucks stopped
Sam received more puck per game than Igor, his team is inexperienced and cannot score on powerplay. Is he better or worse?
Does Igor really warrant a 12 million contract? His partner Jonathan Quick has similar numbers.

Except he ain’t better than Igor , take Vezina’s out of the equation and in no way shape or form is hellebuyck better than shety, all hellebuyck has over shesty is size since he’s 6’4 and Igor is 6’0-6’1. Yet Connor still struggles with covering the crease and letting in dumbass goals while shesty, even being a smaller goalie can bail the rangers out on99% of the cross crease chances, compared to hellebuyck who’ll hardly make an effort to even try and get to that other post and make that save. People think 12 mil is too much, he and McDavid are the only two players who should be the first players to reach a 13 million dollar contract.
