This, with glazed ham, ambrosia salad, and a bowl of corn that was always left in the microwave until it was time to do dishes, will forever bring back memories of Easter dinners at my Grandma Hilda's. The corn flakes were always my favorite! My mom still has sunflower casserole dish that my grandma baked them in!
i have been coming to get your recipe every year for like 5 years now lol you're a part of the holiday here haha i just liked it and didnt want to even bother looking at another one
I had this at my grandmas uncles funeral a month ago and it stood out to me because of how good it was. Now tomorrow I’m making it for my dad and I for dinner and I can’t wait to have some mroe
I’m making it on Easter Monday, tomorrow. I will use the corn flakes on top, however, I will also be using the dried onions which come in an envelope. They’re like dried onion rings. They are so good and I can see where they will be kind of like adding potato chips. Can’t wait to make it.
@Mel Lockcuff, I once had to make several of these casseroles for the church we attended, and two of them needed to be Gluten-free as well. I ended up doing the topping on those two with Gluten-free Chex cereal. You can find it just about at any chain grocery store. Turned out fantastic
My aunt makes these and I found your recipe last night to make for our Friendsgiving get-together. They were perfect and just like my aunts! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes My Grandma Helen always did a version of this with diced ham and diced hash browns, not shredded. Making Your Recipe now, with these additions and no added salt. Breton Butter Crackers instead of Cornflakes. I should have got Low Sodium Cream of Chicken. I have used the Gluten free Cream of Chicken from Safeway.
I made this for a party last night (Wednesday) OMGOSH I didn't bring any leftovers home everyone loved them they were gone within a hour ,They were macnifacent the corn flakes didn't even get soft it so crunchy ,Thank you so much I'm making them again for Thanksgiving 30 ounces of hashbrowns made so much I wanted leftovers Your Amazing Thank you Thank you.
I'm a new subscriber, making these to put on my Easter Brunch Table tomorrow morning. It is a dish my husbands mom always made and though I don't really eat potatoes myself, I'll have a bite or two and I know the rest of my guests will love them. Thanks for sharing.
I need to try this, I usually add bacon, chopped pickled jalapeños and cream cheese in place of half of the sour cream. I don’t have bacon this morning, will try your version. Thank you!!
This is a very famous Mormon dish, it's even served at some restaurants in Utah! It's been around longer than I have been alive! It's served at funerals, because we have very upbeat funerals, are loved one's just go home to see Heavenly Father, and family members! 🙏🏻💜👍🏻🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸
You're not gluten sensitive. you're suffering from ROUNDUP poisoning. In the United States, Roundup is used to Ripon the soybeans, wheat, and corn so the farmer can harvest with just one pass over the field. Europe has outlawed Roundup on all their farms. You can eat gluten in Europe with no side effects.
I make this casserole quit frequently but I’ve never seen it with cornflakes. I know! How have I not? But I’ve a potluck to attend this weekend and I was assigned these potatoes. I guess I’ll add the cornflakes and give it a try. Thanks. By the way you look very pretty in this video.
@@MelLockcuff the cornflakes were a hit with my family members that grabbed mine. I took a look at the others and some had cornflakes and some potato chips. I don’t like potatoes so I never bothered to look around a potlucks potatoes section.
Looks delicious! Thank you sharing! Planning on making this recipe for this years Thanksgiving! I do have a question..does it need to be covered in the oven??
So, would you bake it for an hour and then freeze it, or prepare and freeze it, and cook it when you thaw it out. That wasn’t real clear to me. Thank you!
I was wondering the same thing! I bet it'd be great. You might just have to cook it a little longer, covered and then uncover halfway through the cooking, and add the topping. Otherwise cooking longer would burn the topping. Happy 4th!!
I can't see why this wouldn't work, Amanda. As Jae said, you just might have to cook it a little longer. If you try it, be sure to let us know how it turns out!
I don't understand. My potatoes don't cook. Y'all don't cover it how do you get your potatoes to cook? And it's been in closer to two hours and potatoes are still raw wtf?!?;
I see. That's probably why. Fresh potatoes will certainly take longer to cook. You can definitely use fresh potatoes, but this recipe and its bake times are written for using frozen pre-cooked hash browns. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you! You might consider boiling your potatoes ahead of time, 'til tender.

My aunt makes this but with ruffles on top but not as finely crushed as this. It's super good.

I am definitely going to try this recipe! Thank you so much for sharing your recipes.
My grandmas made this my whole life it’s been my favorite
That's so awesome! It is a favorite of mine as well.
You make it the exact same way I do except I use the corn flakes and I use the frozen o'Brian potatoes! Oh and half a Velveeta cheese block!👍
Same! I have to make mine gluten free but I’ve always made my own recipe of cream of chicken soup and for the topping I actually use corn Chex
That's a great idea, using corn Chex.
Yes, I haveade this for my family Easter. My Grandma Helen always made it at Eater. My Family was shocked to taste it again.

I’ve been making this recipe for over 20 plus years and kids just have to have it every thanksgivings rule is mom make two cause it goes so fast 😝
That's funny. It's a recipe that just about everybody likes- and it's easy!
Plain potato chips are gluten free and can be used. I use Doritos but I don't know if they are too.

Crushed thick crinkle cut potato chips is a great substitute for the cornflakes
What did you use to grease the baking dish ?
You're not gluten sensitive. you're suffering from ROUNDUP poisoning.
In the United States, Roundup is used to Ripon the soybeans, wheat, and corn so the farmer can harvest with just one pass over the field.
Europe has outlawed Roundup on all their farms. You can eat gluten in Europe with no side effects.

Beanie, I guess it's a tradition around here. I have seen some people that use potato chips.
When I do it, I do cover it for the beggining and towards the end, like the last 5 min, take aluminum off to get the cornflakes crispy!
In Australia ALL our hash browns come as frozen oval or triangle patties - not loose bits like yours. What do i do then?
It might be possible to break them up into little pieces. This requires thawing them ahead of time. I hope this helps.
You could shred your own potatoes too. I do mine in the food processor, super convenient if you happen to have one with the shred attachment.
I used ritz crackers for the toppings but wanted to use Frenches cripsy fried onions 😜
Thank you for mentioning the gluten free options
Thanks for watching!
I love the carbs disclaimer! ❤😂
Haha, it's definitely not low carb!
I love it this way, if it doesnt have the crunchy topping, I won't eat it lol
I would have to agree with you.
😋 YUM! 😋
So good! Thanks so much, Christy.
I’m dying to make this….but not crazy about Corn Flakes. Do you think crushed Cheeze-It’s would be a good replacement or would be too cheesy?
Calabrese, you could try it, but I don't know that I would like this recipe with Cheese-It's. The texture and flavor are both completely different.
I just popped mine into the oven. Carbs schmarbs 😳
It's definitely not low carb, but it is delicious.
I vaguely remember a dish like this but there was heavy cream in it??
I'm sure many people do use heavy cream in this dish. There are so many different variations!
Yummmmmmy
Is there anything than can be used instead of the cream of chicken soup? This looks good but I'm allergic to poultry
cream of vegetable? cream of mushroom?
Do you have to thaw the hashbrowns first? What if you don’t?
It will likely take much longer to cook.
A pinch of parmesan in those gluten laden flakes ..perfecto👍🏼
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
So, would you bake it for an hour and then freeze it, or prepare and freeze it, and cook it when you thaw it out. That wasn’t real clear to me. Thank you!
You could do either or. Both methods would work fine.
Yum! kind of makes me wonder what it would taste like using Frosted flakes!
Give it a try, and let me know how it turns out!
OH SNAP!!!!
Hey! Arkansas!
Love these. May I ask if you used the garlic as printed version has it but your video doesn’t? Curious.
Thanks so much.
Not ascair’t o’ carbs on holidays.
Shoot, I can only give a one thumb up when I got 2!
I appreciate it, Jason!

Thank you for mentioning that the cornflakes aren’t gluten-free. I just assumed anything corn wasn’t wheat. I was wrong.
The corn is gluten free , but they add malt to the Kellog’s Corn Flakes and that contains gluten.
Corn Chex taste like corn flakes but are gluten free!
That's a great idea, Steve. Thanks for the tip!
Cream of Chicken soup is not Gluten Free but Walmart has a GF option!
Yes, there are options.
I bet mashed up defrosted tater tots would work in a pinch.
Throw some hamburger and green beans in there. Yummm
That would be delicious!
Cubed of ham is always good.
I don't understand. My potatoes don't cook. Y'all don't cover it how do you get your potatoes to cook? And it's been in closer to two hours and potatoes are still raw wtf?!?;
