  • Join us as we take a look at the Tennis dexterity game Set and Match.
    NB: The drop court area is directly behind the net on both sides NOT at the baseline as we so stupidly illustrated.

    Me and my daughter made a small tweak for immersion. In one ball we stuck below it the spongy thing to make the friction more intense and we left the other ball token with no sponge. We simulate that way dirt and grass terrain. It’s interesting because when you get accustomed to the level of force needed to pass the ball around, you need to learn everything again in the next game. Try it, it is fun!

      Thanks Wesley. It’s amazing what a bunch of amphetamine can do...kidding x

    Good review, I want to buy this now!!!
    Re side of court you serve from, it should be the same as normal tennis - right side on all even points (15-15, 30-30, Deuce) & on 15-40, left side on all odd points (15-0, 15-30, Adv).

    I bought this online and I’m waiting for it to arrive.
    I read v4 of the rules and I’m impressed. Lots of thematic elements, as you suggest.
    I’d like to get the larger Wimbledon set one day... but it is so expensive.
    In real tennis you have to obviously (A) move into proper position to hit the ball and then (B) direct the shot strategically and accurately ... in this game you automatically and successfully ‘move’ to the ball, but you still literally have to do (B)
    That’s half of of the game right there :)
    Scoring is as tennis is scored ... except in this game they only go up to three game sets.
    Pretty cool stuff :)

    Love your reviews and my wife loves your blue eyes, so its a win win. We'll see if we can pick this up as the wife likes tennis and trying to find a game to play with the family.

      Unwrapped at Christmas and played on boxing day. A huge hit with the family. Mother in law very competitive and crushed me. Wife very much enjoyed the game and how close to the real game she plays. Thanks very much on the recommendation.

    Would have loved a doble sided board. clay and grass maybe?

      @BoardGameBollocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is an oversized grass Wimbledon edition but it’s Uber expensive...it’s a no from me.

      @@BoardGameBollocks yeah herad u saying so but i was just saying a double sided version could have been added at no extra costs. the game is indeed fun but i'm not willing to throw 70£ at a deluxe version

      Me and a friend were talking about this game today and we said double sided would be great too. He even had the idea of a slightly different finish on either side so the ball reacts slightly different like real life.

      What do you think? About as close to tennis as we’ve got and believe me we’ve played a gazillion dexterity game. It’s tricky to get the serve in though hence my criticism of the board size.

    • @pretexteeditions9618
      @pretexteeditions9618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BoardGames4K the serve really is tricky and it’s a high step to really make the most out of the game for beginners. We have three serves to beginner and a very forgiving “place it on zero in the Box” beginners rules. That said for having presented the game in Essen a gazillion times, you’d be surprised by the number of naturals (girls are actually better :-))

      @@pretexteeditions9618 The Wimbeldon edition feels very much better? Harder to play well?

    • @pretexteeditions9618
      @pretexteeditions9618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Per Sørlie the Wimbledon edition is the “maxi” version (1000x600mm). It’s not harder to play, it’s just a bit different. The neoprene mat gives a very nice feel to the strokes. To be honest we have had original size fans who won’t play on the maxi, and vice versa.

    good review! gives me everything I wanted to know about this game, just ordered =) However just a small thing: it really doesn't feel that good for me that you point your finger at me all the time. I might be nitpicking here, it's just kind of an insulting gesture to me (like it would be in real life)
