Splendor Duel is phenomenal. I put it almost up with 7 Wonders Duel as my favorite small 2 player game, and once again it's the multiple win conditions that keep players constantly watching and interfering with each other.
@@gordo6908 Interesting. I'll look into it. I'm not typically into anime normally, but I do like me some Akira and Ghost in the Shell mangas. (Well anything by Katushiro Otomo really).
I was surprised to hear you didn't like the Rise of the Empire expansion. Absolutely respect your opinion. I feel the opposite. My group likes the simplified combat and the different mission/objective decks. I do like that aside from the combat, each side can decide to play with the original or the updated decks.
Yeah, surprised too, especially since you said combat isn't the main feature you like about the game, which I 100% agree with and is why I like that the expansion simplifies and speeds it up drastically.
video games huh, what are the odds of a realmspeak magic realm review? contracts immediately sounded like prayers/rituals from the deity's perspective. drivethrureview x jrpgs, what a pleasent crossover. cole wehrle's actually been playing through old jrpgs for systems inspiration. if you didn't encounter it during your youtube rabbit hole, a user by the name of basement brothers does some wonderful overviews of classic computer jrpgs
Yes. I have watched some Basement Brothers videos recently actually. Good stuff! Interesting to hear about Cole diving into JRPGs. Chances of a Magic Realm review are slim. I tried investigating it a long while ago, and balked :D
I can't play Mass Effect for all the banging nonsense. I did make it through 1 but the fabled 2 makes me live in fear and I've barely touched it tbh. I just think really? Are you really going to take me there again? Do I get any choice on the choices? Honestly not everyone is a fan on choices in action games anyway. I don't watch a movie for it to suddenly stop and ask me a dumb question on where (and let's be honest with these games) it's off too anyway. I certainly don't want to re-play games that take hours and hours to play, and I suspect that in many games choices are only added at all because of a misguided view on value for money.
Ya I've noticed a fair amount of bloat in some of the games I've played over the years. It's like.. you just added this repetitive loop to say your game was 40 hours instead of 30 hours! :) (I did enjoy Mass Effect 1, but not the others... never finished those).
Would love to see it on Spotify eventually. Great podcast. Thank you.

I wasn't expecting the deep dive into UO and the JRPGs but that's great to hear! I had no idea UO went so broad and deep.
falcom is an unbelievable story in and of themselves - i'd love to see a documentary about them - my goodness
Ask and you shall receive. I watched this a couple of months ago. Very fascinating! th-cam.com/video/JIcbJn-RylQ/w-d-xo.html
though i assume little to no weebs pass through here, a manga/anime by the name of 16 bit sensation is a neat love letter to that era of games

The Ys games are great, also love the Ultima series in general. The LoH series is bananas, but I love it.
great podcast. you should do video game reviews as well as board games.
Thank you. Appreciate it. It's crossed my mind... "Why not both?" :)
ultima online! haven't heard that game brought up in forever!
Baja or Sonoma? :p

Not on the podcast feed?
No unfortunately. Explained in the description (briefly) and in more detail in the video.
Gotcha. Weird to not be able to get a podcast via a podcast app, but sounds like your hosting company turned into a dumpster fire so I can sympathize!
