I always believe travelling, opening ur eyes to different culture & people helps u grow as a person and ur mum has proven this can happen to anyone at any stage of their life. I've witnessed a positive change from the 1st day ur mum landed in china to this video now.

On the first few days, it looked like she was really cautious in her new surrounding and observing a lot. Maybe she was uncomfortable because of her old prejudices or she felt she had to be on her guards like in South Africa. Either way, it's good to see your mom be more carefree like her younger self and finally have some fun instead of being cautious all the time. I don't know how bad it is in South Africa but is she always cautious like when she first landed in China?

I am a European who has been living in China for 15 years. Let’s me explain this for those of you who are not so familiar with China. China is still a developing country with 800 million people living in it close to poverty on $100 a month. The Chinese have an internal passport system called the hukou system that determines where in the country people are allowed to live. Put simply 99.9% of the population are not allowed to live in Shanghai or Beijing or the other tier one cities. Otherwise everyone would move there and overburden the city infrastructure. China develops a few places to be special centers of power and politics. Beijing is the political centre and Shanghai is the financial centre. So these are shiny and mostly clean and welcoming to tourists. Again, the hundreds of million of people living in poverty are not permitted to live there. Coming to China and only visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hainan is like going to the US and visiting Beverly Hills and Times Square. That’s why you don’t see homeless people in these cities or filth or crippling poverty…but try travelling 20 miles in any direction out of these cities and you will see a starkly different reality. Make no mistake about it; China is a brutally repressive country for all of its citizens and everyone living there knows it. Don’t be fooled by tourists who only spent a few days living in the bubble.
You do know that there is more than 100 expat who record and post their rural life's in YT? The way you wanted to tell everyone 3rd tier or rural areas is shythole isn't convincing at all because expat who lived there that long won't be using such tone like yours.
