I think one of the biggest problems with German Shepherds being brought to the shelter is that they are so loyal to their people that they grieve more than other breeds.
100%. Most "human" dog breed I've ever known.
100%! I have a GSD and have never had a more loyal dog in my life.
And she learned a different language! She probably knows a bunch of Spanish words!

German Shepherd are very sensitive. Like most working dogs they need that human approval.
That beautiful GSD absolutely understands Spanish. They are such a smart, loving breed. A walk would do wonders for her. She is gorgeous and just needs time and love.
I she is not ready to leave the kennel right now to go for a walk because she is so scared. It will take more time and careful handling before she is ready. My heart goes out for her.❤❤❤

I rescued an adult female shepherd many years ago. She had been abused and then abandoned when her owners moved. Neighbors took her in but couldn't keep her. Through my daughter and her friend she ended up with me. Long story short, she was the most amazing dog! How anyone could abuse her I will never understand.

My father rescued a German Shepherd puppy from a kennel. She was the only puppy among several male dogs and was completely emaciated. The male dogs also appeared neglected. Since my father didn't know how quickly the public order office would intervene, he bought the puppy, brought her to safety and then called the public order office. The employees took all the dogs out of the kennel. She was such an adorable and loyal dog. She is living behind the rainbow since 1997, my father died only two years later.
I am a USAF & US Navy reserve veteran, who lost my best friend Kelly who was scheduled to be put down the next day. I would love to enroll Rippy in a Service / Emotional school in preparation to take her to Veteran hospitals in the Tampa / Orlando area. If you can ship her to FL, I would smother with love as would the hospitalized veterans. I am not leaving my personal information but I understand you can contact me. I have a wonderful GSD. Like a lot of them, she has a tendancy towards anxiety but not in a troublesome way. Just follows me everywhere. Recenty I was in hospital, quite seriously ill. Came home in a lot of pain. She gently nose butted and kissed me constantly for days as if to comfort and encourage me (she doesn't do this normally). Will never ever forget that. Love her so so much.

I owned a dog that would comfort me when I was sad or upset. He would snuggle close and put his paw on my leg to make sure I knew he was there.
I had a shi tuz. I was told I had cancer. I was so scared. I didn't know what to do. Insurance said PRE EXISTING. No help. I was crying, in deep despair, all of a sudden a little hand gently pulled on my hand! It was my dog. So gently, like a human, angel touch. It really startled me. They DO CARE and know. She did run my household. Almost 30 years, ago. I am still here.

I so loved the comments about the sweet precious dogs that comforted their people who were facing health or other dilemmas. No words can express how precious that is...and people who share their lives with kittycats and other pets receive the same loving care.💚
Also, I'm so glad you filmed Mel attempting to take Rippy for a nice, soothing bath and then staying with her to calm her back down and give her reassuring strokes. Such a lovely lady...so full of love like Rocky and the others..and us, too.💚🍀🙂
Following you is not anxiety. Shepherds are intimately connected to the human members of their pack. They are KNOWN for this behavior of following you around - even to the bathroom😮😅.
When mine dont do this I know immediately something is wrong with them.

Discovering that Rippy understands Spanish was so cool. But my heart broke a little when she freaked out with sweet Mel. Poor baby. I hope she eventually loses that fear 😢.

The loyalty of a German Shepherd know no bounds. My first dog as a kid was a shepherd-malinois mix. She lives in my 💜 forever.
Malinois are almost more Loyal than Shepherds. I'll bet your dog WAS amazing!!

She is beautiful. Not loving name Rippy. I rescued an 8 mos old german shepherd (she chose me) she was abused and neglected and emaciated. Vet said she would have died in a week. It took 4 years , and assistance of my happy confident lab, and she became the BEST dog ever.
Renaming would be easier if it sounded similar. Maybe Skippy?

I wish I lived closer - I may be 75, but I can’t still get up and down on the floor. I’ve rescued every dog and cat I’ve had going back over 60 years, and with love and care ( and patience), my life was blessed with best friends. Thank you so much for all you do, and by educating us about how we can all help.
I grew up with a German Shepherd for 19yrs and his name was Rocky. He was the best dog ever

I wish we could pass laws to prevent more breeding until every single dog every where has a home.
I wish people knew these are the best family dogs, not just guardians. Many years ago German Shepherds were the original guide dogs for the blind in the UK.
How would people know something that is not true? Despite the fact that every family has different needs and preferences, there certainly are better breeds for that purpose.

I rescued a German Shepherd from a shelter and she is so loyal to me for getting her out of there. It does take time to rehab and train them, but they are super smart and know love ❤

I've rescued 3 adult female German Shepherds over the years and they are such great dogs. I hope to get another some day, but my heart is still broken over losing the last one.
She may be lost or a runaway. Maybe someone is looking for her.

They are grieving from being torn away from their family and put into a dark cold hard noisy environment.
So how else are dogs who are rescued able to be helped when they are lost or abandoned?

What I was trying to convey here is the reason some dogs act like this is because they have had their whole lives uprooted and destroyed because of something they don't understand. In no way am I saying that putting them in these kennels is a bad thing as it keeps them safe and allows them to be cared for. I am empathetic to their situation and understand why some are acting like this.
@@FreebornLivingWoman Us as humans can fathom the efficiency of the situation for the Dog, but the way it was described as above is likely how they experience it. It’s the harsh reality.

I have a 7 month old female GSD , my vet said her very small hernia that can be fixed when she is spayed. They should be fixed before they become a medical emergency. This girl is gorgeous. I hope she finds the right forever home. ❤

My mom liked having the German shepherd mix outside with us kids. Buttons was alert to where we were and if we were okay. Also protected the yard from anyone coming in that we didn't know. Calm though ❤❤

How long in was it?
My dog, who was a shepherd mix, decided that 8 of my shoes were asking for it, one of each pair, and rather than chew the whole thing, she was smart enough to do them in just enough that I couldn’t wear them ever again and leave. Strap on one, heel on another. And only one of each pair😂

I also rescued a Pit/ Rottweiler mix that was one year old. She definitely came from Spanish speaking family. She didn’t understand anything we said for a while. So good to know. We named her Luna. For the beautiful moon shape above her eyes. She is 3 now and the best sweet girl Ever! Thank you for educating the public on these beautiful beings.

If youve ever been to a shelter its easy to understand why dogs shut down. Its chaotic, noisy, lonely and stressful. Thank God for the Angels that work there.
@@ts.elliot5870 wife and I have been taking the “bad” dogs from the shelter for years and rehabilitating them. Over the last 20 years we have had 7 that could not be helped and were eventually put down. We also had 5 that no one would adopt so we did. All our local shelters are great and I would never say anything bad about them.

Poor baby. Yes she will come around. I took in a Shepard Animal Control was going to put down because with fight or flight she got fight. They kept her two days and that was it. I had been contacted by her owner whom I knew. He didn’t want to relinquish her but was forced to. I took her and it only took me two days for her to settle in. Bare in mind I had all day every day to be there with her. This girl will come around too. I’m sure she’ll make someone a wonderful dog.

Years ago before I got my first German Shepherd, a guy I knew, who had two big male GSDs, said, “If you want a dog that will never leave your side, get a female German Shepherd.” I did, and it was so true. This dog is so gorgeous. I hope someone takes her to a loving home quickly.

What a sweet girl! I’d take her in a heartbeat if I could. I have a rescued GSD that is 5 years old. She showed up in our yard one day when she was about 4 months old. We searched for an owner, but not one came forward or posted her as missing. I fell in love with my Molly from day one. We realized she had been born with hip dysplasia..both sides, of course. When she was a year old, she had a total hip replacement on the left hip. She’s been nonstop ever since. She’s been such a blessing and the most loving sweet dog I’ve ever had. She’s definitely the diva of the house and the boss of her beagle brother! I love what you are doing for these poor homeless dogs! Breaks my heart to hear their stories, but the work you do to find them loving homes fills it up just as fast. Love, from Kim (mom) and Molly (the rescued GSD that has enriched mom’s life 100%)

We had brother-sister German Shepherd/Collie mix... Abandoned as puppies on the street... They lived 13 years with our love. My FIRST PUPS of my own.

She is beautiful .When I was a kid my neighbors had a German Shepherd! And her name was Dutchess...she was such a smart dog! She had puppies and I was the only kid in the neighborhood Dutchess would let sit with her and her puppies, it was so special! ❤
