    In Part 3 we use old school hand tools like the early pioneers. Battery operated drill, Propane brush burner, Paint roller with a plastic tray, Electro galvanized self tapping T-10 Torx head wood screws & Australian wood oil. In part 4 we are going to use a wood fired stream tractor with a post hole digger, a capstan for the derrick and a manually adjusted grader so hit the like button and tune in next week! Good camera and sound work!

      So......poured/glupped fish emulsion (2 tablespoon in gallon water) down the rows. BOING! Beautiful plants in 3 days!
      Its now 8 wks and the are growing crazy happy. I ran out of dirt to mound up around the plants. They are still 18"+ above the dirt. I'm hopeful for a good crop.

    Great video as always. I’ve heard if you seal the bottom of buried posts then you effectively create a bowl for water to sit in and not be able to escape (speeding up rot time). I was curious if you’ve encountered that or subscribe to that idea as well?

    your mathis solid on the pens for batter boards and you can double check using Pythagoras' theorem
    a theorem attributed to Pythagoras that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. it is a right angle triangle so a squared plus bsquared equal the third side or the hypotenuse which is normally called c squared ...if your measuring agrees math checks out then your definitely perfectly square but with crooked timbers that is the challenge right so that is your margin of error so the strings are the tie breaker ...It is how the old men built the pyramids lol

  • @MyLevelheaded
    @MyLevelheaded ปีที่แล้ว +2

    put some moth balls in the bottom of the holes as well mixed in with aggregate the bugs just hate that stuff so any minor thing will avoid the area by a foot or so ...any contact scratches in the tar caused by backfilling will be further protected...

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  ปีที่แล้ว

      The tar was thinned some by heating. Don’t want it to run. It turned out okay in the end. I explained on my other channel the variations that could be used just like you mentioned. It’s common to me but the kids said I should do more explaining, lol

    Richard I have a surplus of poplar on my land and I live on a hill but there’s a lot of clay. Would you recommend this building method?

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mine is doing well. Not only will the burn help (a good solid burn) like alligator skin keeps from rotting so soon but I also used roofing tar to coat the bottom and sides and wrapped roofing felt around the post. Post need to set on gravel bed about two or three inches deep for drainage. No need to felt bottom of post. And extend about six inches out of ground to protect from surface rot. So far mine is like the day installed. I used pine, but with that said everything I have built has been with poplar and pine. I’d say treated like that it doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t have a problem myself doing it.

    Wonder if it would be feasible to build a fire chamber (barrels laid horiontally) with the fire underneath, and a metal grid for it to reach the lumber through (kinda like a bbq grill) that you could run the wood thru to get the char that you want. Seems like it would be easy to get the uniform look plus take less time and work.

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
