    Informative video with irritating, and distracting backgound noise.

    I just got a 9800. Not my favorite radio by any means but it works. I should have just spent the extra and got one that matches my KG1000+. I did get the 9800+ if that makes a difference.

    I got this radio new from RadioOddity and it was turning off randomly as well. I sent it back.

    Looks like I'm the 500th sub. :)
    I was looking at getting one of these radios but I dont think its worth the hassle. It must have had prior trouble.
    Thanks for the video. 73

    Yep my TYT TH-9800 has been sitting in a box for three years now. Needs this fix as it has the beep of death. Maybe now that this video has finally been done in English as opposed to the Russian You-Tube video fix I found a few years ago I may actually order up the parts and go through with it, if not only to dump the radio at a hamfest.

    This is something I have to do to mine ! What zener diodes do you use? Great info !

    What kind of power do these put out on 10 and 6 meters. I can't seem to find that information anywhere. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for the video. My TYT just crapped out on me. Doesn’t look like the same issue, but if I get it fixed I will definitely do the Zeaner diode mod.

      That's too bad. What is wrong with it? I have another two of them in line for repairs as I get through the pile.

      It looks like the coil closest to Q409 Overheated and melted and might’ve shorted out some resistors and the cap in that area. I can send you a picture if you want. It is under warranty so I contacted the place I bought it from and they are sending me out a replacement.

    Hi, THANKS so much for the video and explanation. I have very recently received my TH-9800 PLUS version s/n 2306AR00142 from China and it also has the zeners missing. I see the resistors you removed were 100 Ohms, in my version they are 4R7 Ohms and next to impossibly small for me to remove; however I do think I can solder in the 3.9V zeners as the pads are larger. Possibly a stupid question but will it matter if I leave the 4R7 resistors in place and just add the zeners? Sincere thanks. Paul, G0odp.

    I have this radio I ordered it on eBay brand new but when I try too transmit on repeaters it won’t transmit ???

    • @redviper2212
      @redviper2212 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If it’s only on repeaters, then you probably have something programed wrong or wrong setting in the radio that is not correct. If everything is program correctly, you need to make sure you have the end code/decode turned on for the PL tones to transmit.

    • @warzone7571
      @warzone7571 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redviper2212 I’m going to order a swr/watt meter from Amazon to test the watts on my tyt too make sure is properly using full power would any watt meter work?? There is Surecom swr meter 27-30mhz that only works on those frequency would that work to test the power on my radio??

    • @salvagegeek
      @salvagegeek  ปีที่แล้ว

      Like redviper has said, you must double check that you are transmitting the correct PL tone if the repeater requires it. Also you must have your + or - offset setup for the repeater input frequency. If you have done all of these things correctly, there could be an issue with the radio still. I just happen to have one in the repair pile that has PL tone issues (it will use the correct tone for a few seconds and then drift into the wrong tone eventually and drop the repeater). That repair video will happen soon, I'm curious to see if it is caused by the same CMX chips as the one in this video.

    • @salvagegeek
      @salvagegeek  ปีที่แล้ว

      Any cheap meter will work. The cheaper ones will give you "Peak" wattage readings instead of "average" so they will appear a bit high. That Surecom one is actually not too bad. It will read PL tones as well which is convenient.

    • @bradjohnson3600
      @bradjohnson3600 ปีที่แล้ว

      try the other offset. you cant do a plus offset on a 449mhz repeater, that's out of band for example.
