I am intending to get one the 3.0 Diesel Patrols (2004 onwards). But been advised they are grenades. Is that true mate? Coz your machine looks awesome and tempting to get one.
A grenade can happen at any time to any car that has a turbo, and it can happen for a multitude of reasons. However to safeguard against it you can install a catch can and an aftermarket inter cooler.

They're pretty good, although I had an issue with mine, 2 little screws came of the plenum butterfly and ended up in the combustion chamber lol. Ok, not engine's fault, but they do have issues with cams, the hardening on them isn't too good. Good aftermarket cams will solve that and not that hard of a job either, compared to other engine stuff. Other than that, very reliable.

I would love to see a 4WD magazine do an extreme off-road test of all the top 4wd's in 100% STOCK condition and come out with a winner, but sadly they don't want to upset any of the top manufacturers by saying the truth and that is that most of the top brands just aren't that good off-road in standard trim . It's sad really because we the public don't get the facts.
All these tracks - firetruck hill and the quarry have been done to death in unmodified, unlocked 4x4's even with independent front suspension. You should get a grip on reality and do some tracks where you might actually see the adbvantages of your lockers.

You don't have to worry, this Patrol had used it's lockers plenty a times in its' 9 years of life prior to this video.
i drive a patrol myself 1998 4.5 Petrol SUV shape but even i have to admit... Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is way better offroad simply cuz it has no body in the way of the wheels.. and both sway bars can be made loose for even more Flex by the push of a button.... But with that said. the Jeep is only better offroad but it drives like crap on the road if u doing 120 or 140km/h.
Louis Nel For me, owner a long Wrangler Rub is way to small. Patrol have more sold construction. Better axles, diffs, suspension, but engine sucks, and it's heavier.

TB45E is what i have in mine and it simply does not matter how hard u drive it, it never gives up! The harder u drive a Nissan the more it likes it! If i have to drive a ford or jeep like that, they will blow! Nissan is the only thing that can take punishment. As i always to everyone! You can with a Nissan! And there is no way you gona break that gearbox to... Its a fcking beast!
debatable, The power you can get out of the 3.0 these days are insane. I've chipped mine + dyno tuned,cross country intercooler,bigger turbo,catch can,bigger injectors and 3 inch exhaust etc and is still as reliable as any other 4x4 ive ever owned esp being my daily aswell. Around 200hp at the wheels and close to 600nm of torque. Eats td42's lol

It's a hit and miss mate. Some blow and some don't.
