In the late seventies I owned a 72 xs650 and my younger brother had a RD350.That 650 was my all time favorite bike and I have owned more than a few in my day.This brings back a lot of fond memories, thanks, you made my day.
I love old bikes. Especially the cr250s and other 2 smokers. Ive had a 97 I've been slowly building while still keeping it ridable. I take it out a few times a week. It's been about 5 years and probably 4k but def worth it.
I absolutely hate to let machinery sit. I'm guilty of that. But the reward of rebuilding and riding/driving/ flying them again is worth the price of admission. Another fine video.

I was 18, borrowed my friends RD350 to go to the mall,no helmet,no license,no insurance,no brains. A car cut me off and I hit him,landed 30 feet away on my helmetless head,friends came out of the mall and saw me covered in blood but didn’t recognize me so they went to my house and waited a couple hours and then figured out it was probably me they saw laying there. Totalled buddies bike,totalled the old mans buick and paid big fines for no license or anything. Was 33 years ago so i can look back and kinda laugh now🙄

Love one of those either the dt 175 or the rd , strip it clean paint extra build it back up as you go but the price of these in uk is out of this galaxy,, ,,,but I'd take any bike . Cant seem to find them though.
Everyone said the XS650 was a Japanese Triumph (but with Overhead cams, e-start and 5 speeds) but Yamaha were even smarter because they copied the oversquare BSA 650 bore and stroke. Supposedly more reliable than Trumpets and Beezers but did not handle as well. I've owned all three but for a very long ride (a week) chose the XS650 (1984 model) but it kept dying due to a mysterious electrical problem. Ironic as I chose it to avoid possible Lucas problems on the Brit bikes. After I sold it in disgust I learned that it was a common problem that in the entire series (1969-84) they never corrected.
Yes indeed, they are bulletproof. Its due to the roller and ball bearings in the engine. No oil pressure required like journal bearings.....................they just need some oil flow. I'm 73 years young and still riding my 1978 XS650 Special. They are a ton of fun!

I had a 1981 650 Special II bought it new in 1982. Rode it to Sturgis from Minneapolis in 1997. Sold it finally in 2005 after getting a bigger bike.
