My car is a point and shoot in the corners, and I can’t drive the car to its potential with the stock engine. One of the best comments when I took someone for a ride was, Keith, I have a heart. Was at the point, sell the car or correct the issues to make the car work as it should. Glad I decided to spend the money. Defiantly not dissapointed.

    Just bought a Red 01 Z06 in October 2021. Always loved the timeless look and of course the pop up headlights. Bought the car with 24K miles. Things that almost made me want to get rid of it is Handling at low speeds is not fun. There is so much feedback through the steering wheel that it can be pretty twitchy, even lowering tire pressures. I've upgraded the shocks to C6 Z06s and it has helped, but still not great. Hotchkis Sway bars still didn't really help. The Conti tires still one the fence. Seats are terrible for this car. Very known issue, but opened them up and folded the foam on the sides to help keep you feeling snug. I'm 5-9 180 pounds. Clutch engagement is by far the worst manual I have ever driven. I installed MGW short throw and it helped with feel, but it still sucks. Have yet to install Tick Performance clutch MC, so fingers crossed. I have driven some pretty fast cars and always have a fast motorcycle for when I really want some speed and I think my 17 Gsxr 1000R kinda is ruining the speed factor for me with the car, but if you know Gsxr's I would say its about as fast as a 2011 and up 750 with basic upgrades "full system". Car is fast, but it feels like there is no torque unless you slam the pedal and even that comes to be a issue with the lag from the throttle engagement, Being a 01 doesn't help. I recently installed a CAI, Headers and high flow cats and haven't gotten it tuned yet because I am waiting to swap Harmonic Balancer and add a cam and valve upgrade in a couple weeks. So hopefully once tuned it will awaken, but stock is not impressive if you have driven fast machines. Still I love the car and its a neck breaker, just understand why there are so many low mileage ones floating around. Just my honest feelings.

      Sounds like you should have bought a Hellcat instead of a Corvette. Put the Z on a proper track like VIR, Laguna Seca or Road America and you'll find out why it has the power output that it does. Also, the broad torque band of the C5Z means less time shifting on a course and more time driving which means faster lap times.
      Of noteworthiness, you also installed suspension modifications that would make the low-speed "problem" you describe even worse, not better. Do some research before just throwing money at mods.

If it has a competent driver no V6 Toyota or Lexus can hang with it. What do you think is "fast"? A new V6 Toyota is at best 14.0 @ 99, incredible for an 'appliance' mode sedan, put all the vaunted 60's muscle cars to shame. An I'm sure the top of the line Lexus goes real low 13's, but now you're talking big money. It's still fast. If you're in real lazy mode then anything 0 - 60 in mid - high 5's will hang off the line, but that's you in lazy mode an them in frenetic mode. Jus saying. Research what new advancement in engine technology and output cars can go 116 in the quarter. None under $100,000. If you must win every acceleration contest then spend $10k on a 2 wheeler 😀

    I completely disagree. I researched both cars heavily. Drove a Yellow C5 ZO6. Sure I liked it….until I drove the C6 GS manual. The C6 has a much better interior. Rides much better and quieter. It feels smaller because it is smaller-on the outside that is. About a foot shorter I believe. 436hp stock vs C5 ZO6 405hp. C6 GS has the ZO6 brakes, suspension, wheels, tire size, wide body which is gorgeous and worth the price of admission alone. And I pulled the fuse on my GS so the inner baffle “doors” are open all the time and she sounds great from a cold start up to redline (6500RPM) I might add. Not bad for a pushrod V8. Power at the top end does not tail off. I love her. Best $35K I have spent in awhile. 2011 C6 GS Convertible, 6 speed manual.

    I’m late but the c5 never not going to be relevant. It changed the game completely when it came out putting Chevy on top. The new C8 is the same way completely changed the game and let’s not speak of the C8 Z06 that’s a whole other topic lol

    It does not need to be the newest flashy thing or have an abundance of screens and technological wizardry to still be relevant!

  • @EagleScoutmano
    @EagleScoutmano 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not on topic of is the C5 Z06 relevant (because yes, but really no)... What the freak is going on with the C6 dash lights? This strobe effect is awful.
    Back on topic, you have to ask yourself 'relevant to what?' at which point, the guy with a C7 ZR1 is going to say 'you and what twin-turbo setup are going to race me?' while the guy with a bone-stock Mustang GT from a few years back knows that you're a tad bit quicker... But still slower than a modern Shelby.
    Basically, though, the honest answer is 'relevant at the price-point', at which the C5 Z06 mostly *only* competes against C6 Corvettes, because everything else at the price point is slower. For $25k, you can get a 10+ year old Shelby, if you're lucky, and it is slower. Or a 5 year old WRX STi, and it is slower. Or a 370z, and it is slower. Or a Porsche Booster, and it is slower. Or a BMW Z4, and it is slower. The list goes on and on and on, but the point is, dollar for dollar on the average used car market, you won't get a faster car than a C5 Z06... EXCEPT the C6. And that one is kinda' questionable.

    • @EagleScoutmano
      @EagleScoutmano 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did fail to point out, I am not at all disparaging the C5, and indeed I love the looks and feel that the rarity factor of the Z06 makes it still feel exotic to encounter. Honestly, the C5 overall is my favorite Corvette gen, it's the one from my childhood, and the one that starred in the racing games I grew up playing.
      However, there are limits with any stock car from 20 years ago- even the mighty Enzo has somewhat pedestrian performance in the modern supercar world. But every Corvette since 1984/85 remains to this day a performance car bargain, offering stock performance unrivaled at any price point from $5k-$150k; you just have to buy the right one for your wallet. At $5k, a mid-late 80s C4 beats virtually any other $5k car. For $10k, an LT1 C4 beats virtually every other car you can buy for $10k. At $15k, a base C5 does the same.
      Above $20k, you start getting a weird patchwork of generations/special models, for example a C4 ZR1, C5 Z06, and base LS3 C6 all cost similar amounts and offer similar performance, and the same with a C7 base/GS vs a C6 Z06, or a C7 Z06 vs a base C8.
