That's a lot of work. Thanks for taking the time on this. I've done similar. My fix to uniform emergence is to plant deep, the shallower get's to little water and delays emergence. Seed firmers.
Hi Carl, nice to see you producing again. Won't be long before harvest is in full swing. Your helpers are really shooting up, aren't they? Andrew especially has grown so much since this time last year. I did enjoy the video Andrew, thanks.
We had corn come up on May 10 and June 20 in the same field. Laid in dry dirt before germinating. First corn is black layered and late stuff just dented. Drought for 1 year. What a mess. Great video.
Awesome video as always Carl. Very informative and interesting. I can remember when farmer's consider 105 bushels a acre a wonderful super year. My how things have changed over the decades. Keep them videos coming and stay safe my friend 😎🌞👍
That was interesting. Is the information available to see if the second group, though delayed, emerged into better growing conditions to get the 9 bu/acre bump? Also what are the kernel counts for plants that emerged closer to the desired plants/acre count? I know they won't have the daily emergence info, but it would be interesting to see what closer stands do to the the kernel count?
At the turn of the last century (1900) they were getting 20 bushels an acre. That's what 100 years of selection, hybridization and GMO can do. What will the next 100 years give us?
That test was very interesting thanks for doing that. The kernel counting app sounds like a real time saver for doing a test like that. Thanks again for all your videos.
Hi. Why create a new something when the old something was producing just fine? What will that corn be used for? Or was it just an experimental field? What is the difference between Hybrid n GMO? N why should I care as a consumer? Thank you n your family for taking the time to strip n count n figure the numbers. Peace to you and yours
@@Kathleen67. I was marveling at the gizmo but yes i hear you, it's sad how many people are asleep. It actually scares me because the sleepers have the momentum to sweep us all off the cliff.
This video (I am no farmer but interested in how it works) begs the question. How do you pick a hybrid? I see all the field trials growing in fields but it seems the selection is a somewhat shaky guess. If you stay with the same hybrid as the previous year, it might have done good because the weather was wetter. The next year that hybrid might not do as well because the weather was hotter and drier. Do seed companies pitch certain hybrids and you cover your bases by selecting several hybrids.
I guess I’ve never seen that emergence like that unless soil is to cold, or way to dry to be planted in or 10 year old seed corn that was in the back of the barn 🌽😃🇺🇸
Interesting video with clear results however It would have been most interesting for a comparison with some other hybrids planted nearby and at a similar date to form similar comparisons regarding yield. Lastly is there much difference with the individual kernel size as although the number of kernels per ear is the primary yield indicator is there much difference in bushel weight assuming similar moisture content %?
May I suggest you work on your crop residue. Excess residue can reduce stands greatly. We use a product from Meristem called Excavator to break down residue. Also work on your planter to make your planting depth is consistent. Doubt corn germination was a major factor.
Any thoughts Carl on the cost/benefit of more spacing between seeds (and better growth/light/nutrients) vs loss of yield overall in the field by increased spacing?

Thanks, Carl. I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. Good Luck!
Another very insightful video. Thanks for bringing us along Carl.
Great video , Carl. I can say I learned something very useful today.

Now wait just minute there... The real questions is what app are you using on the your phone to count kernels? 😁
Haha yeah it’s the pioneer app

That was really good so glad we could see the results of that. Really good video thanks.
Super interesting. Wasn't so long ago, though, that farmers would be delighted with 105 bus/acre
I can remember my Dad bragging about 100 bushels 75 years ago.

Very interesting and very informative.

Very informative to a non farmer. Great job and a good helper.
Thanks Jim!
Thanks for all your work doing this trial Carl, it's very interesting especially for us that don't know much about growing corn.
Thanks Carl, very interesting. Thank you for taking the time to explain this
Excellent comparison! I learned a lot!
Good info Carl t

Good stuff carl. Very interesting!
There's a app to count corn kernels on a cob, what will they think of next?
If they get away with it, making sure you own nothing and have zero freedom.

seed quality and planter job are absolutely necessary
You had but one sample but that one corn plant that had the extra room on either side may be saying population too dense?

Please tell us what app your using to count kernels……inquiring minds want to know.🧐

Did others who planted the same hybrid in your area see the same emergence problems you had?
Any thoughts Carl on the cost/benefit of more spacing between seeds (and better growth/light/nutrients) vs loss of yield overall in the field by increased spacing?
Great video! It’s amazing how much difference just a couple days can make. If they were all “late” at the same time, would they be equally bad/good?
WELL DONE. !!
Great video.it’s just like being there
Can I use that app to count the hair on a head?
Seems like there is a silk emergence problem with that variety. I noticed a lot of cobs with nil pollenation and not aborted kernels
So can you go back to your seed dealer and say "WTF" dude! I demand some cash back.
That corn should be ashamed of itself!
Interesting 👍👍
Beard is coming back!
