    Continually in awe at the number and variety of skills farmers have to develop to select, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain their tools. And beyond the technical demands, the sort of character and temperament required to handle and keep pushing through the issues that arise along the way. Remarkable group of people. :)

    I am a old timer now retired but for 31 years I work on the Canadian National Railway. started as a truck/semi you call them to Container heavy equipment operator for the last 10 years on sea container operations. I must say you learn so much as you go and you have that in your memory if it happens again.
    so you are young and when things happen I know what it is. OR you learn to do something ahead of time to stop problems from happening down the road.
    The story is all through your life time is you never stop learning. Enjoy life and learn as you go LOL❤❤

    Our nation needs to see this vlog. What you have to go through to feed America. Very good “picture” of a farmers struggle.

    Our combine took out the splines on the vertical auger upper end the other day once we got the auger we were going again within 45 minutes. It’s an easy fix with 2 ratchet straps to raise the gear case back in

    Things just seem to go wrong in bunches. At least you were able to get things fixed and didn't lose a ton of time. May God bless you with a continued safe and productive harvest.

    I have replaced many shoe auger drive belts and I never take the fan belt off.

    Had a red 1660 quite a few years ago that had the gear box go out on the horizontal part of the unload . Had to hang the auger on the rafters and undo the gear box from the auger and drive the combine ahead to separate the auger from the gear box . Took 2 or 3 days to get another one . I would say you were extremely lucky with yours .

      That sounds like no fun at all. But I bet you saved a lot of money by fixing it yourself.

      @@dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206 Saved a little taking it apart but needed a service call to get it back together . Needed more hands and eyes to get the job done . The gear box had to be positioned so that the vertical and horizontal augers were in proper timing as well .

    Most slip clutches need to be slipped once a year, to test them and keep them functioning properly. That may have been your issue with the bubble up drive belt. Your dealer did well getting your machine up, that quickly.

      If they are stocked like is required then yes they will have the proper parts the problem is sometimes that multiple store dealers don't always have everything

    I'm personally a fan of using chain rather than belt... when you spend that much money on a piece of equipment it would make me very not happy when things break.

    We used to fight crap like that, then we got standards and said we will only tolerate one breakdown every other year max! If you can't produce a machine that will pick 3000 acres without breaking, get your junk off our property! We run Lexion now and haven't had a breakdown in 3 years!!! My recommendation is just give them a shot! At this point, what do you have to lose?

  • @runwillrobinson

    My analysis indicates that to get that belt on you need to hold the spring-loaded tensioner with your left ear.

    You broke a combine, got it fixed, broke it again, fixed it yourself then got rain out. Kind of an odd series of events and ending, but that's how it goes sometimes. It is nice you got some rain though, there's been a drought everywhere in the midwest it seems.

  • @robertpautsch5093

    When you get a combine, do you attend classes on all the things you can fix or do you read the manual all night during the winter. Or are you just plain mechanically adept? If you cannot self -maintain, efficiency drops. Do you stack an inventory of parts in your shop or does the dealer do emergency deliveries? A good dealer and a good relationship with them must be worth gold.

    My caseih 8240 has 3 belts and 2 chains for the separator and 2 chains for the unload,very simple.

    • @ROCK-s1t
      @ROCK-s1t 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely my 9250 is pretty simple also John Deere has always been 35 years behind when it comes to a combine

    • @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206
      @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may seem more simple but the red machine just has fewer belts and more gearboxes.

    Hope these questions are not too silly. Was a gear box replaced or a universal joint and shear pin?
    Why not keep a selection of belts on hand?
    Best harvest to you!
    Feeding humanity!!!!

      @dodgebrothersfarmandranch9206  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They replaced a gearbox.
      We are just a 15 minute drive from our John Deere dealer so there’s no point in having $2,000 worth of belts sitting in our shop all the time.
      Thanks for watching 👍

    • @davidbowen789

      The mistake was buying low quality sh!t to begin with. You're exactly correct, STOP BUYING JUNK! Life gets better when you say I'm done with this garbage! Try Claas combines, what the heck do you have to lose? It CAN'T get worse than Deere!

    I don't know how you put up with John Deere you are a better man then I'am CNH will bring you a loner combine while they fix yours

    • @davidbowen789
      @davidbowen789 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't want a loner combine, I want a quality combine that doesn't break to begin with! If you can't produce a machine that will pick 3,000 acres without breaking, don't try and sell your shit to me! We tolerate one breakdown every other year MAX! At this point all Deere equipment is banned from our property. We tolerate case and agco tractors and like Claas combines. It is still possible to produce quality equipment, but Deere forgot how!
