  • Review of 2016 Camaro SS A8 after 10,000 miles and 6 months of ownership. Starting to show some wear and tear but holding up extremely well. The car has gotten faster with mileage, which is a bonus! This is my first car review and I look forward to doing many more.

      It's not that you can't see out of it - it's that compared to virtually every other car the visibility is poor. Amazing performance, but personally I would prefer a slightly slower car with bigger windows. Still, an amazing machine.

      Jess, I had the foresight to:
      # 1: know EXACTLY what automobile I was going to pilot.
      "B": to realize that in November Chevrolet was going to offer a 20% discount incentive for 2016 model autos .
      #3: to then, before going to my local dealer, ferret out the model of my desires, equipped as such.
      "C": to then invite my local Chevy dealers to fight amongst themselves...heeheehee
      #4: it took one dealer to do a "dealer trade". Dealer two (who had my SS) needed a fully loaded truck. Dealer one traded said truck for my SS.
      "D": in a nut shell, I paid $37,000 for a Bright Yellow Rally Striped 2SS, 6 speed stick shift, MRC. The window sticker WAS $43,000.
      #5: I really wanted the 2SS to be Summit White...but I'll just have to live with my Mustang Stinging Bumble B
      ...........
      P.S.:
      Do your homework, wait until October... THEN pull the trigger on a Camaro Fifty.
      I've had them all, M3's, all the Z's, HEMIS, yadda yadda yadda.... my gen6camaro2ss@gmail.com is most worthy.

    I also keep my drive mode in tour for steering and track for sound. I used to put my sound in auto when I parked the car because my wife like it in the quieter mode. But I forgot to switch it back when I was done driving it and she didn't notice it being deferent so I just leave it that way. I have also had the Disappearing drive mode. Great video glad you bought the Camaro and not the Mustang. Not happy with Ford dealers charging $25,000 over invoice for the Gt 350 R.

    I have a 2017 fifty and the visibility isnt an issue. After 5 mins your used to it. And I got a manual. I actually wanna drive the car not ride in the car. I'd reccomend putting bigger rims and tires. I got 305s and 275s for mine. The 2ss is worth every penny over the 1ss.. feels alot more special and the Bose is the best factory sound system in a car I've ever had. My only complaint is id like a bit less road noise. I've owned mustangs, challengers and now the camaro. The camaro is the most pure sports car of the 3. If its not a Shelby the mustangs feel cheap and toyish. Challenger felt like a boat and blew the tires off everywhere. The camaro feels and drives like youd want a REAL Sports car to feel. Best mods are bigger rims and tires, exhaust,cold air, oil catch can, longtube headers, and a little tune nothing crazy. She will hook and smoke just about anything all motor. And of course looks way better than them as well.

    "To each their own" ..... I have had 4 Mustang GT and loved all of them. I just purchased a 2016 Camaro 2 SS in the summer and have 8000 miles on the car. I really like both cars but like my Camaro much better. This car ( Automatic) is unbelievably fast and responsive in Sport and Track Mode.... The car seems to assist you while taking sharp corners. The aggressive look of the front of the 2016 SS coming down the street is awesome. The back lights are OK but not as cool as the front. Please note that the new run-a-flat Z rated Tires will go quick if you get on the vehicle. I just had to replace the tires at 8000 Miles.

    Hi Clay , I enjoy your no BS reviews. I owned and sold a 2015 C7 Z51 with the A8 and my only complaint with it was the sloppy down shifts no matter what mode it was in when run hard. We have quite a few stellar twisty roads here in the Nevada Sierra's and many times the car just would not down shift setting up for a corner. I also auto crossed it a few times, and it was the same deal in that one respect, but still did very well setting the top time a couple times in the novice class. I have a new summit white 2017 SS1LE on order and it should be a great weapon for the money. Cheers Dale

    I'm looking at getting either a 1SS or the 1LE here in the next month or two. I'm going with a 6 speed either way though. I actually went and test drove a 1LE yesterday and I fell in love, minus the Recaro seats, they made it a little challenging the get in and out, plus the 1LE is more of a track car and I don't thing ill be going to the track that often. And while I would love to have all the bells and whistles of the 2SS or the 1LE I'm probably going with the 1SS simply because of the price tag. Thanks for the review

    Even so you have to be curious about the current 2018 Mustang refresh and upgrades. I think the S550 now looks better then the new look but that is not what we care about. It's the performance we want to know. All I can say is if this new Mustang's power is not at least 460 hp I will not even consider test driving it. Honestly for me that's the Mustangs downfall compared to the Camaro and challenger and that is lack of power under the hood especially after it just gained 200+ lbs. :-(

    Ive had my 2016 2SS for about 2yrs now and heres the list of problems i had going from 23000-50000miles.
    1. TCM problem. CEL keeps coming up once in a while and when it does, the car completely stop shifting while I’m driving so its as scary as it sounds. Took it to a dealership to get it fixed but they just told me they can’t fix it since the CEL is resetting by itself... so I have to drive in constant fear of my car not shifting while driving.
    2. A hole blew out on the exhaust. Don’t get me wrong, the stock exhaust sounds amazing and nice but they have a weird spot where a piece of metal is welded on to and that weld just gave up.
    These are the only “real” problems i had but then again, this all happened within 30k miles so it’s not the most reliable car.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder if a different or better dealer could solve the transmission problem for you. Seems like the mil resetting is a odd reason not to fix it. A lot of times if a problem is known to excist or likely to come back the dealer can fix it. Requires a good tech to actually diagnosis it. Hopefully you can get that fixed. I found nice but persistent usually gets me results with the dealership service. Complain but nicely. Hope you get that fix man especially before it comes out of warranty if it still got warranty. Good luck man.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abdul Kalam there are a few simple ways. It's NOT very common that's for sure. if you put a slightly taller tire it will fit so in the rear a 275 45 20 and in the front a 245 50 20 it would look funny but would give you about 10 mm more in ride height. the tire wold be 20mm bigger. besides that a small 1/2 spring spacer. never thought someone would ask to increase ride height but there are some ways.

      dry509 I did and drove both, watched every review and comparison available at the time. It all came down to the drive. the Mustang is good but was a little to sluggish and heavy feeling compared to the camaro. it feels much quicker and better planted. the Mustang maybe slightly better for some as daily but for me this is better as a daily. the Mustang has more aftermarket support but the camaro has plenty too. it's sixes either way and comes down to personal preference, you can not go wrong with either. I wanted every advantage possible when I mod and race it and combined with experience I decided the camaro. BTW I am a Mustang guy through and through, have had about five and still have a turbo new edge. hope this helps.

      Fuel economy is really good on both models. On my tuned car I got 28.8 in a recent test I did. with cylinder deactivation or with a stock tune I think I could have got 30 pretty easy. Problem is you have to drive it really soft to get that fuel mileage. Where as the v6 gets those numbers easier. My average not including tracks days is 22.5 MPG. I would be very interested to see the difference in insurance cost. The v6 model and the 4-cylinder turbo model are both really good options. I think the guy that gets the V8 knows going into it that he wants it. Btw awesome car you have!

    You talk a lot about the handling, should have mentioned if you got the mag ride package or just stock suspension because I'm curious how good the non-mag ride suspension does. It's a very expensive option. Otherwise thanks for making this video and you should make another one after another 6 months!

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      White Camaro great idea man. it is non mag ride. there are a few reasons why non mag but the main was cost vs how good it drove with out. mag ride improves the already great handling and kinda wish I had got it 🤔

    • @joeyofblades
      @joeyofblades 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My friend with a CTS-V says it's overkill for a street car and I'd never use it to its full potential lol. There's also chatter on forums about how the mag ride would hold up long term and the cost to maintain it. There's a bunch of 100k mile cars running around with it still working fully, but it's like electric power steering - if it breaks, it's gonna cost you to fix it. So I've always wondered if getting the mag ride is better or if you should get stock and save the money, then go for a coil-over? I wanna see coil-over vs mag ride comparison. Mag ride lets you adjust from within the car which is nice but if you're tolerant to bumps then a good set of coil overs will make it one mean handling car.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with what your friend says, being able to adjust does give a sense of money spent well but is it worth it?? Probably not for me. I'm on a budget so things like that matter a lot. I too worried about what if it fails in the future, outside of warranty and that made up my mind. If I had money to blow I would get it though. Great topic man!

      Clayton Yates Actually thats not correct only these cheap built cars lose value that fast, And what do mean a car isnt an investment, anything can be an investment, even if it loses initial value. theres trade value ect... do you believe that a z06 vette loses that much value in two years. I think not. pay to play? really there cheap cost and build is why they lose value so fast. ive owned chevys my whole life but never have i seen a loss in value at these levels prior to 2008.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Rainwater a z06 loses more value, look at the numbers. it's your car man. not sure you understand the numbers cause you are saying the complete opposite of what I've seen throughout the years. I've been buying and selling cars my whole life and if your 14 v6 is worth what you said that is way more than I would expect. most vehicles lose 50% of value in 5 years so your camaro by 2018 if bought in 13 should be worth half or less than purchase price. so it's on track and doing better if the numbers you say are correct. all new vehicles lose like crazy. if losing money is your investments then....

      corey blacksher I have a fully loaded scatpack bought on may (memorial day to be more precise) and barely reached 5000 miles last week. I'm not bashing camaro or your choice of car I'm just stating that it's not the smartest decision to bump up your driven milage given its a brand new car. Assuming you aren't that financially solvent since our cars dont reach the 50k mark, you should really start caring more about your car. & before you rant about having loads of money, your current car selection invalidates that arguement.

      corey blacksher yea not quite buddy, my car is more expensive than yours, your interior is complete crap. I bought my car cause I have a kid and camaros don't have any real back seats. & finally yea I bet you have beat scatpack challengers, so have I you win some you lose some I upgraded my tires and my brother's 2SS has a hard time keeping up. so be quiet kid you don't know shit about cars. mine will go strong into the 100k miles while yours will probably be on a salvage auction.
