      @Paula P, this is one of the newer females of the troop. She is still learning her horsemanship. The Warrant Officer looking at both of them has years of experience and will take his time to encourage the horse to relax as he gets patted. The noise from the tourists is lower. The rider is sitting well in the saddle to encourage the horse to quieter down. Having said that, I am not so sure I would like being in a sentry box that small. I really agree with loving pats, small treats and more loving pats of reassurance. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🐎🐎🐎🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🐎🐎🐎🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

    So hard to ride this panicked horse with a sword in one hand. Well done. And well done that the other soldier came to comfort the horse & stayed until it calmed down thoroughly.

    • @joanthewad7510
      @joanthewad7510 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      He wasn’t panicked. It was classic anxiety behaviour as soon as he got near the sentry box. Didn’t want to go in and who could blame him. You can see the same behaviour at any race track or horse show when many horses refuse or become difficult to load into a horse box or trailer. Also when asked to enter the starting barriers at races.

    • @truthreallyupsetsmostpeopl759
      @truthreallyupsetsmostpeopl759 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Horse isn’t panicked. Horses are extremely observant and in-tune with their surroundings, though. They have to be. “Horses can smell fear,” or “If you act nervous, he’ll get scared, too.” But, horses are not telepathic. They are, however, very observant.

    • @joanthewad7510

      @@truthreallyupsetsmostpeopl759 Horse is not afraid. Neither is rider. He is showing classic signs of anxiety on approaching the sentry box. Probably due to some previous bad experience maybe during initial training.

    • @joanthewad7510

      What do you mean difficult to ride with one hand? Soldiers went into the thick of battle for thousands of years and had to control their horses with one hand due to having their weapons in the right hand. Cowboys likewise when roping cattle. Horsemanship in the past didn’t just involve cantering slowly around a sand arena holding the reins in two hands.

    • @truthreallyupsetsmostpeopl759
      @truthreallyupsetsmostpeopl759 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joanthewad7510 Have you owned horses? Well my mom and I owed horses and the only time they got scared was from either lightning and thunder or vehicles honking their horns they get spooked and my mom was scared of her barrel racing quarter horse she was taller than my pinto, mom tried to get on her quarter horse and the horse sensed my moms fear my mom never got on her. Horse reacted. So I got on her horse she was a lot bigger and taller than my horse my pinto was more for a kids horse. My mom fear was "Princess" was too fast for my mom she couldn't handle her own horse. I got on my moms horse and she reared up with me on her trying to get me off of her but I stayed on her she thought I was going to be like my mom scared. She was ready to go. My mom and I switched horses. They were both females and always stayed together. They couldn't even stay apart. But that guards horse isn’t afraid it just saw people that was afraid and horse reacted. Horse was fine on one side never reacted but it entered the other side and horse saw someone’s fear it shook its head and reacted. If you never owed a horse now you know. Horse can sense fear like with my moms fear.

      @@Karen-ig6bp You’re right. Looks like the same problem. Poor horse. They’re such magnificent animals. One hates to see them so uncomfortable. Maybe there is something amiss with the bits that are used. And why wouldn’t the rider bring the horse back in and fix it so that the horse isn’t uncomfortable? I realize they have to stand watch for a certain amount of time but it seems unnecessarily cruel to submit the horse to that level of discomfort for any length of time.

    Well handled. For you people who don’t ride Thoroughbreds or TB crosses, these are athletic, intelligent, and aggressive MILITARY horses in the Horse Guard. A bitless bridle would not have controlled that horse in this situation. The bridle and bit are correctly adjusted and the horse was attempting to run through the bit which would have put him in the middle of that ignorant bunch of people. The horse guard is CAVALRY. They learn Classical Dressage which is a MARTIAL ART. What is appropriate for your backyard pleasure horse is NOT APPROPRIATE for a war horse. That cavalier is carrying an unsheathed sword for a reason. It isn’t just a warning.
