The guy on the bike represented someone Marcus could be there for, since he feels guilty about not being there with his mom. He isn’t being selfish, he’s being of service.
I love how real the dialogue is between Luca and Marcus. I had very similar banter with my old chef and now it’s how i speak with my team. It’s one of my favorite episodes
At first I was so on edge thinking Luca would eventually snap at Marcus, but he turned out to be a genuinely kind and generous teacher. Funny, considering he was the eternal second to Carmy, whom we know can go very psycho very quickly when things get heated.
True! Well-written and true to life. I’m not a cook, but think the things Luca said apply to any field. Competitiveness drives great people in any field, and it’s sometimes hard to accept that you’re not the best and will probably never be. But at the same time, trying to keep up with “the best” can help you soar to new heights.
bro i didnt make this connection at first but like... imagine what carmy felt when he first came here, away from the chaos of his family? everybody keeps saying he doesn't come back as often as he should but would you really want to leave this calming environment and go back to the family home you see in forks? but also carmy's carmy - maybe he doesn't feel like he deserves a calming environment or maybe he thinks it holds him back from thriving - maybe that's why he went to the joel mchale kitchen instead, something a lot more like home
Will poulter was such a random young actor years ago and hes just been amazing to see across so many projects recently. Im glad Shameless ended so Jeremy allen white could go do other stuff. Hes so damn talented and has been for a long time
This was such a therapeutic episode!! Loved the focus on Marcus. He always gives off a comforting energy to the show, and it’s so beautiful watching him do what he loves. Such a passionate and inspiring character. I also loved seeing Will Poulter here. He’s such a great actor and I heard he’s coming back in season 3! And I really appreciate the scene with him saving that old man who fell off his bike because it reflects his inability to help his mother in her current condition, so by helping someone else, this probably made him feel better about himself. Also, getting back on the bike symbolizes that if you ever find yourself hitting rock bottom, the option and choice of still wanting to get back up on your feet and keep going with your life is such an incredible way to demonstrate that life lesson. However, the ominous score in the background wanted to show us that Marcus is a black guy in a foreign European country, so literally anything could happen to him, which is why we had this unsettling and sinking feeling when we first watched it. I seriously love this show for doing this because nothing is meaningless and random. It’s honestly so amazing!
This is genuinely probably one of my favorite episodes of the Bear. Something about it is just so… perfect. From learning more about Marcus’ life to the little lessons Luca teaches Marcus.
the bike scene was there to show marcus that you don't need to say thanks to show that you're thankful about something, that hug by itself meant everything. and this is because marcus take care of his mother (or grandma? can't remember rn) without receiving any words of gratitude.
The bike guy is saying ‘hjælp’ which is Danish for help as Michael is in Copenhagen. He was not being chocked by the fence, that is just how Danish sounds😂. Many words are quite similar in Danish and English though the pronunciation is different.
This was my favorite episode. Fantastic feel, calm culinary learning experience. Life lessons and personal experiences explored for Marcus. Just good meditative, cathartic release through a good cooking exploration with a great mentor!
5:35 so Shiso is in the same family as mint, but is a much tougher plant hence the need to blanch it in hot water before blending; otherwise, you’ll just have a confetti of tough shiso leaves in water Still herbaceous like mint, but with much much less menthol Also the egg yolks are brighter and deeper color because of the chicken feed: you can technically get eggs that color and still treat the chickens poorly so long as the feed diet is the same content
I love this episode because it focuses on my favorite character in the series: Marcus. getting an entire episode focused entirely on Marcus was such a treat! 😃
I took the guy on the bike being a lesson to Marcus. Marcus even asked him, "sure you want to get back on the bike"? We have all heard something similar to that in motivational speak.
This episode was so comfy and relaxing to watch. Loved that it was focused on Marcus and Will Poulter was great. Alongside Forks and Fishes eps, this is one of my favourite episodes of the show.
Time sneaks up on you. Feels like season two came out a few months ago and now we are just a few weeks from season 3. I can't think of a show or movie that does a better job showing the reality of everything that goes into the food a customer orders. The behind the scenes drama, anger, dedication, sacrifice. Cooking professionally is so much more than simply cooking.
The biggest eventual payoff for this show is seeing everyone from season 1 being the best versions of themselves. Like this episode and Tina’s development at school along with the masterpiece that is the forks episode, just lays ground work for these guys being the best chefs in the world
The reason we have to refrigerate eggs in the US is so gross and infuriating. Our factory poultry farms are so disgusting that the eggs must be washed so thoroughly that it removes a natural coating that keeps bacteria from growing. Without that it is unsanitary to leave our eggs out.
I like him but he straight up always talks during important moments or tries to be funny. And then he’ll miss what happened and have to ask a million questions
I know I'm probably alone in this but I really did not enjoy this episode. Marcus' character just doesn't connect very well for me and the writing felt very forced introspective in this one. Glad people vibe with it though, I really dig the rest of the show.
I don’t think you’re crazy, but this episode is deliberately and strikingly quiet partly to demonstrate what Carmy experienced the first time distancing himself away from his family… it is a little thin, but I like the pacing

I thought the bike guy was to give an opportunity for Marcus to help somebody, compared to how he probably feels helpless with his mother’s condition
And it goes back to when Luca said you gotta get out there and see the world
Also, at the beginning "just be confident about it and don't second guess yourself". He didn't, and he helped.
The guy on the bike represented someone Marcus could be there for, since he feels guilty about not being there with his mom. He isn’t being selfish, he’s being of service.
Love Marcus getting a focus this episode, really cool to see him in a different setting
Aaron is annoying.

Yup that’s why this episode is deliberately slow and the little check in scenes back in CHI are played bigger and almost cartoonishly mayhem-ridden
Exactly the feel I got by the end of the episode. “I just wanna stay here for a little while longer” 😊😊
Will poulter was such a random young actor years ago and hes just been amazing to see across so many projects recently. Im glad Shameless ended so Jeremy allen white could go do other stuff. Hes so damn talented and has been for a long time
I mainly remember him for getting his dick bitten by a spider in We Are The Millers haha
Very funny Aaron lore about him just being mechanically lucky to the dismay of all his loved ones lol.

If you slow it down you can see Richie’s character breaking when Fak starts screaming “it popped!!”
I love this episode so much and the fact it might not even be too 3 this season for me just speaks to the quality of this show.
Will Poulter is returning in season 3 but the bigger question is....will Coco the Invisible Cat return?

That scene with Luca & Marcus is my fav so far in the series.
The bike guy actually inspired Marcus to his 3rd dessert with a pineapple. It looks like a wheel of a bike

I just started watching Netflix’s Punisher. I knew Michael was the Punisher but I didn’t know Richie was in it as Micro. Wow.

I think the bike crash guy was there becasue Marcus really needed a hug.

Such a beautiful episode that makes me feel at easy and tranquil. I sure hope the next episode keeps up this vibe 🐟
Love this episode man, Marcus is the best.
This is easily my second favorite episode of the series. The only one better IMO is "Forks"
Fishes, Forks, and then this one for me

What's your guys' mouse budget??? 🤣

So Aaron has the dad factor, whatever happens will happen and my dad will always fix it! And that Aaron, god i hate him more lol
“Diabetes!!!!” 😂😂😂😂
It's weird seeing that English chef in Copenhagen all hot and older, because he was the same scrawny goofball in "We are the Millers"
my best take on the injured cyclist is that he is modeling what Marcus needs to do, keep moving forward with his life in spite of his wounds
I can relate to making dough at Little Caesars on Christmas Aaron
I've worked for 14 to 16 hours straight from Tuesday to Saturday.... still I watch that episode and I want to run to the kitchen to keep working.
