Everybody gangsta till next episode says turning point 3
Its crazy to me that literally almost 0 shows with powerful MCs ever bother to delve into the topic of how having a ridiculously amazing MC would affect the people around him.
And MT did it twice so far from different perspectives, one of Eris losing all confidence, ruining her own life and Rudeuses at the time, to go on a self-improvement journey. And now Norn and how she reacts to everyone constantly praising her brother and comparing her to him. Both were done very well imo. ( we can also potentially count Paul and Roxys characters having their arcs be heavily impacted by Rudeuses competency, but thats mostly for us LN readers since the anime didnt focus on it)
And this sort of stuff literally almost writes itself, so its absolutely ridiculous to me that we dont get to see this more often in other shows, it has so much potential for good arcs and writing.
Norn staying in her room because of not living up to expectations is literally Subaru.

Guy underestimates the series, but this episode is what happens when they cut minimally and direct brilliantly
You can clearly see how much Rudeus has grown emotionaly from the begining of this series in this episode
I still can't decide of this is my favorite episode of both seasons, great reaction and thoughts 👌🏽

LN cut content for this episode is minimal, but they did skip an entire backstory chapter in Millis for Norn and Aisha which explain their feelings in so much more detail. If any anime-onlys are interested, i highly recommend reading vol 11 ch 4-5 (start of this Norn arc and Norn POV chapter) cos its actually some of the best writing in the entirety of MT.
Since its difficult to write about entire chapters being skipped ill sum up the key parts here in oversimplified sentences, but i still recommend you read ch 5 yourself, its just that good.
Aisha is constantly looked down on by Lilia and Norns Grandma, so Aisha feels like she needs to overcompensate and try really hard to be better than Norn at literally everything (which only gets the grandma to hate her even more). So any time Norn tried to do something, Aisha would do it too and would do it better due to being a genius, so Norn would feel useless and stupid. But even tho Norn wasnt succeeding in anything, she would still get essentially spoiled by everyone, which made the relationship between the sisters even worse.
But Norns average competency was also being looked down on by the Grandma who had high expectations of her and thought Norns failings are Paul and Zeniths fault, which made Norn hate her grandma.
Theres a lot more juice here, but those are the important bits.
As for what the anime changed/cut regarding the episode itself, Earthdeuses brother kept coming over even after being ignored, and he would just sit there in silence. After some time he stopped coming but arranged for other people to come visit Earthdeus. An important addition imo since the anime makes it sound like he gave up quickly, and cos until now we got very little about Earthdeuses past life, so seeing that people really did try to help him and that it wasnt just a shitty family that gave up, makes it so much more hurtful and impactful whenever Rudeus regrets and recalls his past.
ive actually been waiting for this to get adapted this was IMO the best ep of MT so far like it was also adapted soo well like 9\10 from the LN
17:46. Of course the anime doesn't explain it but Rudeu's signature spell "quagmire" is a mix of earth and water magic. A normal quagmire spell is from the size of a small puddle but Rudeus can make it a baseball field size because he can do silent casting. Silent casters can mix elements very easily because they are not restricted by incantations so they can alter spells midway through their formula. It also adds that his Mana pool is megalomaniac size. SO he technically mix elements regularly. and a little thing he did was to summon hot water to wash sylphy's hair in episode 3 of season 1, which is a mix of water and fire magic
Not sure if the anime did not cover this, but Paul literally told Rudeus to settle down and stop looking for Zenith in a letter he (I am pretty sure) gave to Elenalise. The reason for this was that Roxy had already acquired Zenith's location from Kishirika and joined Paul's group, so it did not make sense for Rudeus to continue his search in the Northern Lands due to a) Zenith not being there and the journey to Begaritte taking way too long for Rudeus to even be helpful in the rescue mission, and b) Paul not wanting to take Norn and Aisha with him because the journey to Begaritte is incredibly difficult and too much for two children to undertake.
Paul asked Rudeus to establish a home for himself in the North so that Norn and Aisha had a place to stay while Paul was busy AND so that the Greyrat-family, that had lost everything in the Mana Disaster, could return to a new home once Zenith was retrieved. In summary, Rudeus in this instance actually did nothing wrong :)
I remember really liking this part of the Light Novels. Norn really shot up in my favorite character rankings; from here forward, I liked her more than Aisha.

I remember this being around the point in the light novel where I was really drawn back into the narrative. I was also getting a little bored of how good things were going for Rudy at this point, but Aisha and Norn (especially Norn) introduce some much needed conflict and really interesting dynamics into Rudy's family unit. And obviously with the turning point next ep things should continue to get interesting. Mushoku stonks up rn

Almost all the Ln chapters are written good like this but sadly the anime tries to cover soooo much in 1 episode that most interactions, monologues and tought process gets cut
It's one thing I always dislike about LN adaptations in general, mushoku and tbate (other novel that I read and got a webtoon some years ago) are like this, the monologue and some chapter pov's make some parts looks so lame, it's so much insight lost about a character

I like this so much because we have his past life as a comparison but in terms of his sexual degen stuff, I think that it truly develops because of his reincarnation, he is a perv in his old life but he has no social interaction that's why I'm quite ok seeing him be a perv but slowly toning down because that is a new experience to him. I just don't think him directly tackling his degen problem would work but slowly seeing him knows his boundaries is a more believable character development
Wow you underestimating the series alot . But unfortunately because the anime skips a lot of content. This episode is example of them not doing that .for example this episode only adapted 2 chapters which was only 30 pages of content. So they barley cut anything. Last episode however they adapted 4 chapters which was 64 pages of content and they even cut an entire chapter . And the last episodes were all like that or even more. One of the scenes they cut last episode was nanahoshi flirting with Rudy and calling him handsome. And also calling him monster for making his sister his own servent when she comes to his house to take a shower. That's only an example. And don't worry the series from now on only gets even better and the end of the season will change your mind about the best episode of the season.
i personally think you should drop mushoku tensei now. some things will happen that I know will make your head explode, it may be bad for your health. I personally loved the story but I don't see you getting past a certain event.
