You’re right, Bob Marley was a gift! The vinyl sounded amazing. I’m extremely happy with the sound. A couple things were negative with the packaging. I had a ding (small dent) on the top of the box. And they just grabbed any copy to send. The regular number of what pressings were not on the box, it was just on the back of the cover (jacket). Well, I ordered mine right after I got the notice of the release, and my number was over 2,700. Usually, my UHQR are under 500. But I can just imagine that they grabbed any cover and put it in the box. So, the people doing the packaging need to slow down and use more care. The number system should be checked with what orders came in first. We’re paying good money, get the quality back up there. That being said, the sound quality was fantastic! Michael at 45rpm said the half-speed from Abbey Road had too much bass. I love your OG of Catch a Fire. That’s an artifact, a true treasure! Your turntable looks amazing!
Sorry to hear about your dinged box. I suspect you’re right about the numbering being somewhat random. It’d be cool to have a very low number though. I was so happy when I found the Catch a Fire, it had been my holy grail for so many years.
Hi Dave. When I saw Chad' Kassem's video release announcing this title, it looked very familiar to me and yes indeed, I had a Canadian pressing in my collection! I never played it, or rarely (only when a reggae mood hits) and decided that my copy was good enough for my purposes. I did recently clean up my copy and play it and it's a good album for sure, and plenty enough to fill my palate! I eagerly await Chad's next announcement, which is supposed to be soon.
Very thoughtful and moving review! I really enjoyed the almost spiritual affection that you had in your description of the album. Clearly you have an incredibly deep appreciation for this artist and his work. BTW, I meant to mention before that I really like the artwork on the cabinet/file drawers/gun safe behind you to your left. *LOVE* that blue colour! It has a real festive feel that jumps right out at you! I see all the paintbrushes on top, so I would assume that someone in your family has a nice artistic touch 😊
Glad you liked the review. As it happens the paintbrushes are mine, and the cabinet is in fact an old 78rpm record cabinet which was badly in need of restoration, but was gone gone that I decided to paint it; inspired by Mexican Folk Art, which I also love (along with many other forms of art).
I listened to your very rigorous review of MOFI’s MJ. This has prompted to check out some of your video, which led me here. Like the MJ’s review, this is a great review. I like your style, laid back but very informative. I’m waiting for my copy. Big up!!
Cheers for the video Dave very interesting and informative. Bob will live forever through his music and the world is a better place for that very fact.
Great comparison review, Dave. I haven't listened much to Marley since my more pharmaceutical days, but I bought one as soon as it was announced because... AP UHQR. I won't have it for a while since I live in Switzerland, so I'm enjoying it vicariously through you and Michael 45. Thanks!
Thanks for another great review! Informative and with great description of your findings. Not trying to push a product as so many other popular "reviewers" out there. Already looking forward to the next one(s). I am lucky to have the Catch a Fire original with the Zippo cover, one of the mot treasured records in my own collection. Also invested in the RV UHQR and will get the next one if its another Marley. Your test press Exodus looks great! Not many of those around and surely a genuine treasure. Really enjoy the focus on sound and music rather than stressing FOMO that seems to have taken over some reviewers...cheers Dave🦁
Great to hear you’ve got an original Zippo Catch A Fire, Espen! Honestly, if AP release all the Bob Marley albums on UHQR I’m have to buy them all. Glad you’re enjoying my videos, thanks for your support.
You forgot to mention the album jacket is good for cleaning herb!!!(it says so beside the lyrics) Neville Garrick tells a great story about that and how the album cover came about.
Great stuff Dave. Catch a fire originally was released in Jamaica first. Island signed them up and remixed the album. It was reissued in japan in more recent times with original mix and cover.ps what’s your favourite moving magnet cartridge.it sold out a couple of days ago.
@@DaveDenyer me too no problem just setting up a second turntable and just going mm probably go audio technica or something music man used to do a good one the music maker.
I think Island released a double CD many years ago with box mixes. It sounded good. The original JA mix has a few different songs and the harmony vocals, which are superb, are more clearly heard on the JA mix....if I remember correctly.
I’m hoping to finally find the time to listen to my copy today. I’ve been very busy with holiday stuff this week. I’m sure your take is spot on as usual Dave. I’m looking forward to it even more now.
Hello Dave - Do you know why UHQR didn't use the Island Records label? Since it's a good remastered vinyl - was Bernie Grundman maybe involved this time around?
Hi Arne, I'd guess it's due to the licensing: I assume Tuff Gong owns the rights and this was part of the license agreement. No, Bernie hasn't been involved in this: it's mastered by Ryan K Smith, definitely a name to look out for.!

@@DaveDenyer Oh, and if you are planning on playing any 78's on that lovely turntable, I'm afraid that an intervention will be necessary...

Moving magnets: I've not much recent experience of these tbh. I haven't used one for decades!

Sure it sounds great but what about Exodus if I'm going to spend big money on uhqr's I'd want his best albums first.
If he keeps making Bob Marley UHQRs I’ll have to sell something…
Looks great but I still wouldn’t swap my original 45s for one.

I have a copy of Rastaman Vibration from 1976. The inside of the cover can separate the seeds from your weed.
:-)
I have to remember to keep the plastic with the hype stickers lol
Hi Jay, to be honest I've not been keeping them myself for that long, and still I forget sometimes.
It's a top album got a 1st press recently.
Rat race and war are great songs.
To be honest I had forgotten how good it is...
@@DaveDenyer yeah the album grew on me.
Catch a fire is another brilliant album.
Original Jamaican first label on the vinyl :)
And very cool it looks too!
