I heard that THE holy grail of Zep records, possibly the biggest, is the 1,000,000th pressing of their fourth LP. It had a special plate cut for side 2 which announced to the lucky recipient that they had won a diamond studded stick pin. Unfortunately, the winner of said LP only purchased the album for THAT song, and never turned over the LP! After 2 years though, the lady finally played side two, heard the message (which was placed between Four Sticks and Going to California). She collected her stick pin, and...no more has been heard of it since. Now, ladies and gentlemen...THAT'S what you call a true one-off...

Only true vinyl geeks would get off watching a video featuring a record in a plain white jacket and label that we can't even listen to.

I will take it to another level of crazy: I was bothered that the disc was not packed outside of said plain white jacket to prevent seam splits.

A few years ago I realised that my Led Zep 1 was a rare first UK pressing (with the turquoise lettering and the label error etc) …I bought it for £1 from a friend in 1970 when he decided he didn’t like it! Still near mint too!

I worked at a station in 1973, had the test pressing for Houses of the Holy. I had to sell my records for money for college, all 800 that I got from the radio station. Many of those were test pressings. Even a signed Queen lp! Of course, I didn't even think I'd be alive today, let alone imagine what those things are worth now!.

If we could measure the slightly envy-flavoured pile of joyful happiness you can feel for a fellow collector , this would reach up to the top of Mount Everest. Congrats from Sweden.

Since you asked, I've been pretty lucky regarding Zeppelin records. I have a copy of the Robert Ludwig master of Led Zeppelin 2 (which I didn't realize was different until I threw it on -- that was a pleasant surprise), two different copies of Led Zeppelin 1 (one with red labels, one with the classic labels) and I had a couple of different copies of Led Zeppelin 4, for a while. I still have the Canadian pressing, but I sold the UK copy that I had in order to buy my wife (now ex-wife) a birthday present, I think. Honestly, the Canadian pressing sounds better so I'm happy that I kept the copy that I did. I also have a 1977 reissue of Led Zeppelin 3 that is in great condition. The neat thing about growing up in Niagara Falls was that all the different variants and different pressings of records used to be really easy to find when I was a kid because a lot of people pass through Niagara so, at one time, it was possible to find all different pressings at garage sales. It's not so true now, but it's still pretty neat to find different unusual things occasionally.

I was in high school when Zep I came out (yup, I’m old). It was definitely mind blowing as well as Zep II. I’m lucky as I still have my first original copy, beat up and, didn’t realize till recently, is a Monarch RL (not that RL meant anything back then). So many of the era I got to experience for the first time. Some notables for me were first Santana and Abraxis, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Joni !Mitchell Blue, the Who Tommy and others of course. Grew up during a great time for great music.

That is cool. The best Zeppelin’s I have found is mint UK 1st pressings of LZ II and Physical Graffiti. LZ II while not my favorite Zeppelin album is special to me because it was my 1st album. I do not have that copy anymore because sold all my albums when I went to college. I will never forget buying that. I was probably 11-12 years old in 76 or 77.

The cardboard box it came in was a bit of a let down. I was expecting more for such a high value item. The bubble wrap was also a let down. The tape however was a fantastic choice. I didn't see a single used Band-Aid on the box.

Mainly early pressings and the remasters, but I don't have any test pressings never really crossed my mind but I'm sure the price tag would be shocking. My Zeppelin Grails are a RL zep II and a 1978 mispress Houses of the holy from Columbia House with a silver label intended for Foreigner's Double Vision

That's a great point you have brought up sir about discog users. The Zep I 1st UK press turquoise letter. They were said to only have been about 2000 copies left the pressing plant when released before being pulled. Yet on discogs nearly 3100 people claim to have it. How many of they copies really exist today 100, 150, 200 maybe? I have a 1st UK press of Zep I myself also have a Zep II & IV both signed by Robert Plant both UK pressings. Thanks for reading my comments and we can shed some light on the number of real copies out there. Take care guys

And the best part is I paid £2.00 for both of them. Keep looking folks I didn't believe it could happen but it does have a blessed day

Wish you told us how much $. Nice score. I was 12 in ‘68, with stuff like Zeppelin and Pink Floyd playing everywhere you can see why the Beatles just didn’t cut it for my generation. With older brothers we have two great sound systems in our house, friends would come over and I would blow their minds dropping the needle on the latest Zeppelin album. Never forget the look on their faces. 😳

In the 80's I had a Stairway To Heaven bootleg record that consisted of nothing but different mixes of the song Stairway to Heaven. These were all demos of Stairway To Heaven as the band worked on the song, starting with just an instrumental, then other versions featuring Robert Plant singing different lyrics, etc. I cannot find any evidence of this record anywhere on the internet and I sold my copy decades ago. Has anyone else run across this record??

Holy crap bro you're gonna loose a finger one day using a hunting knife to open a record mailer. You're not doing a video on how to gut a deer. Get yourself one of of those mini retractable box openers that are about the size of a 50 cent piece. Been using them for years. They tuck away nicely in that never used front pocket of your favorite Levi's. And another thing, put that vinyl in an anti-static rice paper sleeve. This isn't a copy of Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass Whipped Cream and Other Delights which are a dime a dozen. Son, this is a test pressing of Led Zeppelins first album! Don't make me have to come to North Carolina from Kentucky to teach you how to properly store records. Is that my phone a ringing?
Congrats on your vinyl grail, keep diggin'

did you give it a spin yet? i guess it might sound ok unless it was used alot to make cassette copies. that would suck to get a worn copy but it is what it is. a test pressing no one had heard of before so, ya. do you have one of those first unplayable pressings of II i think it is? Thats funny.

I have a house of the holy album that was my dads, not sure what pressing it is though. I’m sure there’s a way to find out so I’ll probably see what I can do.

I have too many records. My goal is to get a booth at a local antique store and start giving others
A chance at what I have accumulated

Being such a big Zep fan, do you also collect their record company promotional items, such as the obelisk from Presence and other promo items? I remember, at certain venues where Zep performed, buttons were given out to fans. There are also Zep promo t-shirts out there, the Zeppelin t-shirt we now see all over the place, the shirt showing the winged man, was initially produced for Swan Song records as a promo shirt for that specific tour, then those shirts were mass-produced. I have the promo T-shirt given out at the NYC premiere of The Song Remains the Same, of course, I also kept the large cardboard ticket. I have a few Zep promo T-shirts, one is from In Through the Out Door. I have some Swan Song promo pics of Zeppelin as well photos of the other bands signed to their label. A friend knew someone who worked for Swan Song, wish I'd asked for more promo items!
