You know, as I write this, I am trying to remember the last time I personally reviewed a watch on the site that I actually owned. It's been a while - so this is kinda fun for me. Nice throwback to Ben's old Hodinkee videos. Nostalgia. I was also young and building a company when I first met Ben at an event at Material Good in NYC. Things seem to have good slightly better for him haha, but very glad to see. Bravo. Keep at it🤝🏾
Every body says how happy to see Ben and how good this watch is but they dint realised that this is not how A Week On the Wrist supposed to be.

The others get chucked on, even if they are selling at big numbers.
Obviously, it was a very special watch.
There are so many nuggets, story, and interesting points when Ben talks… it’s next level.
Everyone thinks the subdials are just like the vintage Newman dials but only the indices are like those of the exotic Newman dials. This dial lacks the art deco font for the #s on the subdials. Regardless its the pinnacle of modern day Daytonas, amazing review and watch.

I’m all about wearing them. Even that one. I’m on the list and hopefully get the call soon. But when he used metal calipers instead of plastic…. I winced EVERY time 😂

Bill France Sr (NASCAR founder) and Rolex usa president Rene Dentan we're good friends. In 1964, Rolex started to award the chronograph to the winning drivers of the Daytona Continental which was a 3 hour not yet 24 hours. That's how it became the Daytona. It's really interesting timing of this watch with the FIA and imsa (NASCAR owned) coming together on the hypercar rule set with 10 manufacturers coming onboard and both tracks renaming corners after one another.
I think calling a white gold Daytona "the most interesting and talked about watch in the past five years" to be a biiiiiiiit of a stretch there lol

Yeah they're cheaper watches but they have definitely had the most hype and discussion around them.

Whether you like the watch or not (my feelings are mixed, not that anyone asked) to pretend it hasn't been a monumental marketing success is crazy talk. Perhaps Clymer, up in his "I and my friends can afford to own several Daytonas" atmosphere just doesn't hear as much about Swatch stuff as we do down here on earth.

Speedy Tuesday Limited (Fratello) on the omega steel bracelet certainly matches the looks with white sub dials, etc....and can be had for about $12000 plus the $750 (micro adjustable) bracelet.....a value play

Thanks for a video on a watch that cannot be bought. My dealer still has not even seen one, and they are a not a small dealer.
It would be nice if Rolex would offer that bracelet on a white gold with ceramic bezel Daytona that isn't a rubber strap.
And yes, I do enough business with my dealer, that I'm on their short list if one comes in.
Can you also get them to put a glide lock clasp on all Daytonas? Bizarre that they don't.

Easily my favorite Daytona. Under the radar? Absolutely. But the details are what matter. I love that the subdials aren’t “ringed.” I actually love the 24 hour counter. I wish it was stainless steel (because it would be cheaper, but also because it would be lighter weight). I’d also love a steel caseback and I wouldn’t mind if the bezel didn’t have the red number (but it doesn’t really bother me).
Will we get lucky and watch as Rolex releases this in SS 10 years from now? No idea, but a guy can dream. :)

Ben, great video as always. Just wanted to point out that I noticed a slight error with the reference number of the 2016 Daytona in the video - it states 126500LN when it should be 116500LN.

I think the glass could still be engraved with hydrofluoric acid. That would be amazing, if that's your thing...
Amazon has cheap plastic digital calipers so you don't run the risk of scratching a $50k watch.
You can use the hours subdial as a GMT.

if the white gold was impossible to get and the yellow gold will follow suit. a SS version will be even more desirable and harder to get from an AD than the panda
This format is great, I like the “Week on the wrist” series, but sometimes they scripted… this is more digestible and feels genuine. And having the man himself talking about his collection and taking a look at the history in such a nonchalant way is just right.
So if you're Ben, because of your position of influence you get a Le Mans that no one else can get, then you go on TH-cam and hype it up to increase your watch's value and desirability.

Hi I love the channel and the level of detail and passion that drives this content. Buy in this model in particular I found a very uncomfortable naming issue. It can't be Daytona Lemans. Imagine a watch called London 'New York' or a Nascar 'F1' or a Lakers 'Bulls'.
The watch Is beautiful do. Still the only Rolex a Will buy would be a milgaus.
It bugs me in the same way too. It’s like Circuit de Catalunya ‘Kyalami’ or the 911 ‘Cayman’, or Terminator ‘Rambo’, I could go on and on… not that I could afford it though

I love listening to Ben talking watches and have a deep respect for what he's done for the watch community. But calling this model the most interesting watch in the last five years is a highly questionable statement.

Ben says "NOBODY" will wear a Rolex Daytona LeMans in the actual 24 hour LeMans race.. sounds like a challenge! One of the very few privileged and wealthy individuals who's actually able to get one of these very exclusive watches, needs to get a professional driver to wear their watch in the 24 hour race and then get the case back engraved. That would be totally badass!!

How much was that Omega? That’s ridiculous. That should max be a third of the Rolex. Imagine the discount on that if you walked in to the boutique.
If you don't have the "relationship" to get this at $52,000, and don't feel like spending $250,000 - Chinese watch maker Sugess do a nice copy/homage of this for about $400.

I don’t see how Rolex can brand the watch Daytona but then nod to Le Mans - any motor racing fan will look at it like it’s some kind of oxymoron!
This lemans variant looks a hatch it job it’s inconsistent and isn’t all that nice . The video from Ben on the other hand felt like a good segment and better than some of the recent content
No one loves a speed master more than me, probably a lie. However, I would own both watches in a heart beat but to say the Speed master is on par with the Daytona and the Le Mans to be specific is just not true. The Rolex has a much better bracelet, ceramic bezel, more sophisticated movement, may be it can be contested, Rolex also has a much more intricate dial and the finishing of the movement seems more intricate. The new generation speed masters with the so called vintage bracelet is a term for a cheaper bracelet
I'd buy a usual Daytona in steel and change the back with an aftermarket display one. Don't care about the red text and ill get over not having the 24h counter. I prefer steel. It can't be 35-40k worth of gold in a watch anyway.
@Ben Learn from Tim Mosso on how to measure watches, we wear watches across the wrist, not sideways, so nobody cares about case to crown size, just measure the lug to lug.
The white gold speedy doesn’t have a column wheel. That makes the daytona better than the speedy in this case.

The Daytona shown in 5.05 is NOT the ref. 126500 LN
I have 2 1960s reverse panda Heuer Autavias that look like that except that the old Heuers look more authentic than the 2023 Le Mans. Also Rolex is not a racing brand, it is a luxury brand, especially today. Similarly, Rolex tried space with the Daytona, but it did not work. I think the best place for a modern Daytona as a luxury piece is on a female wrist.
