I’ve had this watch for a month now and is my absolute favorite. The case size is perfect and feels more premium, easy to operate via phone. I Loose my phone a lot so the phone finder has been handy and the step counter keeps me active. The power save will help prolong your battery to probably over 3 years depending on how you set it. Watch of the year from Casio imo.
The size is finally wearable. As much as I love retro Casios, they're just too small for my wrist. Also, Casio allows to get some badges referring to some historical Casio releases for steps. It's a gimmick... but a fun one. Setting the watch in the app is quite convenient. I can imagine, that it is what young people do.
I like the timer, dual time and improved stopwatch, also the size is better. I do wish it had a stainless case though. Thanks for your comprehensive review 👍
@@KopperRook Stainless version increases the price by 2-3x. I don't see anyone would spend around $200 on this watch. So, yeah... $80 is too much for this watch. It should be no more than $40.
@damyr That's nonsense for the features available. And it's a new model, like many new Casio models it will likely go down 20% or so in a year. It WILL sell very well, and it WILL get a stainless version a few years from now - whether you like it or not.
@@KopperRook It could be the price will fall, but ss version would be at least 2x the price, for sure. There's already an example with A-700 vs A-1000. And I think with "the Alien" watch (forgot the model).
While I already have 3 members of ‘G-Squad’ - GBD200, GBA800 & GBD800 - with step counter and Bluetooth (for each of which I didn’t pay more than $90 on discount), getting this one did cross my mind. But I didn’t see myself wearing a chrome plated watch with bracelet during my walks/jogs and other such activities, so I dropped the idea..
Had a talk with a guy living in Brisbane Australia, he said that he receives Multiband 6 signals on his G-Shocks every night at a specific place in his house even when he is 7000kms away from Japan's radio tower. He said that the perquisite was to set the home time to Tokyo.
That sounds interesting. I must try with my GShock and see if it works in Melbourne. Though I do know you can use atomic time apps on your mobile phone to send out a signal to your watch. And that works. As you've said, you do need to set your home time to Tokyo when syncing.
I've heard people grumble about the price of this watch but I think it's fantastic. I think getting enough steps in per day is important, personally, and this is the best option for an office environment without getting into smartwatch territory (and Bluetooth connectivity does NOT a smartwatch make). If step counting, or the other functions that Bluetooth provides, is not something you want from a watch, then yes, by all means, get a 168 for less than half the price. This does things a 168 cannot, and if you want those things, then this watch is actually a bargain.
I like the look of this watch and the functions of it. I have a couple of A168's though in my collection which are ample for me for an everyday time piece. My Casio G-Shock 5610's also are excellent for use as a field watch in the military environment when I need it also. As regards the day date format being American it doesn't really bother me as I am used to it being British and having several Casio's in my collection. At the price point I think that this watch should be solar powered in my opinion and should have 100M water resistance. Excellent review though Greg.
It’s a very attractive watch but it is way over priced here in Australia vs the USA $ equivalent price. Certainly blue tooth functionality is the way for Casio watches in future. Great review. Cheers
@@eugene8524 Thank you. It took 2 weeks for someone to answer me. And Greg, with all those 49 comments under this video, couldn't be bothered. It's just too much to read.
I prefer Tough Solar, for sure, but right now the “Vintage” Tough Solar watch is the Casiotron which also has Bluetooth and Multiband 6 AND it costs over $500, so I got this one instead.
I'm an IT technician and i love techonology since the '80 but, honestly, i avoid to put 24h a bluetooth watch tha touch my body. I have a smartwatch too but i use that when i do fitness stuff, stop. We all know bluetooth radiation are very low, but new studies are clear with that: even if radiation are low, if you still are in contact 24h everyday, can damage your cells overtime. So, no thank you, i love the old fashion watch without bluetooth technology.
It's powered by a battery that lasts a few years. How much radiation are you going to get, it's nothing compared to a phone with 5G in your pocket that has few thousand mAH
Mr IT Technician, what you say makes no sense. The power of this watch comes from a tiny button cell that lasts at least 2 years with bluetooth ON. There is simply not enough power to produce a radiation powerful enough to do any kind of damage to any human cell
Never cared for Casio's 'animations'. Don't know why Casio insists on displaying the year as part of the date. I'm assuming you can re-arrange Y-M-D to M-D-Y?
If it's like other Casios the step counter isn't reliant on Bluetooth connection. You can set a step goal through the watch itself and it will reset the counter at midnight. Bluetooth will allow you to keep a log of your step counter history in the app, which the watch will not do.
I love this watch I have a fair few watches some £1500+ but I always find myself wearing this. It’s been all over the world with me

Great video. Always loved A158/68 style but I like my watch to have a timer. That, and the larger size makes this a must-have for me.

I would not be surprised to see a stainless case in the future; I think this will be a big seller.

Great review! Can the DATE of the watch also be synchronized with the phone?--leap year for example
great watch, love the yr/mm/dd but only 2 yrs battery life? This should of been solar!
Really should have, but solar+bluetooth makes Casio want to charge $100+ and the beancounters at Casio probably wouldn't allow it.

@andrewseward8625 he's located towards the north of Australia which points to Japan so that might help too.

The downside to all that extra information on the watch is that the numbers for the time are so tiny.
These vintage series Casios are not known for large time displays.
Hi Greg!
I’ll recommend a model I just discovered: GW-8900 (Multiband+Solar) 👋

Couldn't catch in the video, but does the watch have the option to display a normal date? I mean, dd.mm.yy, instead of American y/m/d ?
no

I was lucky enough to find a casio step tracker on clearance at my local Walmart. Not this model but a ws2100. Cost me, err Santa, seven dollars. 😂

As if the digits on the A168 isn't small enough, they had to make them even smaller 🧐
Interesting. Prefer the old main display. Don't need the Year permanently on show.
ABL-100 keren full❤ ukuran nya, sebanding dengan AE-1200 dan GBD- 200 ( G-Shock)😊
For 80 bucks, they should have added Tough Solar at least.

The best part is that you don't need to use BT, at all. Just don't pair the watch with a phone - problem solved.

BT turns on 4 times for sync with phone for 3 min only

who cares
$80?
Does your wife know about it, Greg? 😀
Funny I bought this watch secretly, but my wife ended up loving it 😂
That other watch looks an AWFUL lot like the one i had when i was little...before even G-Shocks..wow..Vintage eh? Feelin kind of old here !!

you accidentally showed your age, just letting you know
$80 makes it overpriced

itself
Be good if you could get one
