Prince and Sinead's versions were both pretty powerful and you can tell their emotions when they sung it. Chris also put some emotion into it.
Actually prince wrote it for shinead. Years after she released it. Then prince released his version. So shinead did not cover this song

The Cover of "One" is Awesome BUT... He was going to cover U2's song "One", he knew the tune but couldn't find the lyrics. He kept coming up with the lyrics to Metallica's song "One". So he covered Metallica's song "One" but used the music from U2's song "One". It was AWESOME! 😁 To get the best experience from it, you have to listen to the original two songs and then listen to how he combined them into one (no pun intended) song.

Just a little bit of research before going live would go a long way. This song was written by Prince and performed by Sinead O’Connor then covered by Cornell as a tribute to Prince shortly after his passing.

Cornell's voice is beautifully tender and powerful. He's my fave rock singer and he died the same week my mom suddenly passed, so I couldn't listen to his stuff for a year. RIP. Any song from his first solo album "Euphoria Morning" deserves a listen, especially "Preaching the End of the World."
Wish more people knew about Euphoria Morning! Some of his best work on that album.

Saw him 4 times in Soundgarden, dating back to Loud Love tour opening for Voivod with Faith No More, to the reunion and new album in 2013. One thing is for sure; if he was involved, the project was always better than if he wasn't involved. Legend.

Chris had a unique talent of making each song he sang his own, for that moment that you forget that is a cover. He had everything, he composed, he sang like nobody else, in rock n roll, grunge or acoustic. Man I miss Chris, you guys can do any song of him that's no wrong, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the dog(a Band of him and Eddie Vedder) or a solo. I love your channel keep up!

If you want to cry, search for the version of this song that his daughter did with him. From what I understand they recorded it and it wasn't released until after he passed away. It's on the Chris Cornell official youtube page I think. Just search for Toni Cornell and Chris Cornell Nothing Compares 2 U!

I’ve got a soft spot for acoustic too, Sori! My reaction was the same as yours (tears) the first time I heard Chris’ cover of this song. I heard it for the first time very shortly after he died so both things were hitting me at the same time. It truly is a beautiful performance.
I still get goosebumps and teary-eyed when I hear this. His voice is ethereal! So much of his own music effects me the same way!

Aahh guys this song... this is another one of those songs for my late wife. She passed away from breast cancer in 2015. We were together for almost 20 years. Another one for my Becky girl is Pearl Jam Just Breathe. I played this song after we took her off life support and she took her last breathe....miss my girl. Thx guys...

@@dfbovey I think he was just trying for a more emotional feel. Without those high notes and trying to be complicated the song can draw you in more. You pay less attention to how he is singing and more on the song itself.

You probably won’t see this comment, but I hope by some chance you do. Not just for my commenting on this song but on something else you acknowledged in this video. You guys looked up when and where this came from and Vin saw that Chris Cornell covered One by Metallica. I feel obligated to let you know that with Chris covering One, he did a lyrical cover of it, but not a sonic/musical cover of it. The band has a song that is also titled just simply “One”. That’s the song Chris was initially going to cover. So he went online to get the lyrics, and was met with the lyrics of One by Metallica before being met with the lyrics of One from U2. Then he got the idea to do a sort of hybrid cover of both songs. So he decided to sing the lyrics of One by Metallica, but do them in the sonic form of One by U2. Like he musically played One by U2, but with the lyrics of One by Metallica instead of the U2 song. I personally don’t care about One by U2, but One by Metallica on the other hand is my all time 2nd favorite song. So hearing it mixed with the U2 song doesn’t do anything for me. But I still think it’s really cool just for the sheer creativity of it.
And anyway, as for this song, there’s sort of an order/history behind this song. That order goes Prince>Sinead O’Connor>Chris Cornell. This song could technically be called a cover of a cover. Prince was the creator of Nothing Compares 2 U. Sinead O’Connor was allowed to perform the song and use it as an official single and it became like her biggest hit and the most common and official version of it. In spite of that though, people still think of this as a Prince cover rather than a Sinead O’Connor cover.
Its crazy when you hear a recent Chris Cornell song both how much his voice has changed and yet how much it has stayed the same. Yea his voice has alot more rasp, and his highs aren't there like they were in the early 90's. But that character, that tone has never changed. And with age comes wisdom in how to arrange a song. Chris was a master at doing covers, and making them unique to him. Not copies of the original but also not so far from the original as to be an insult to the original artist. But speaking of Chris's older vocals. You guys haven't yet really heard his full range. Slaves and Bulldozers is a must as is Reach Down (Temple of the Dog). Great song. I listen to his stuff every day, and miss his music every day.
