Absolutely! I have had my MM200 for a couple months now and cant remember the last time a watch got me so obsessed! That's cause it one of the more affordable watches in my collection. The MM300 is a legend but the more I collect the more I realize I love thinner divers and the MM300 is not that. The MM200 is nearly a perfect watch for me at least.
If the MM300 scores 100, the MM200 scores a solid 88. Considering the 300 is almost 4 x the $, the 200 is good buying. I own one 300 and five 200s if that tells you anything other than I have a problem with spending.
Rob, great video, let me tell you, because of you and Bruce I bought the SBDC063 and I am so happy for that, this is one of my best watches in my collection, congrats on your great work.
Have had both and the SLA021 is still in my watch box. The SBDC061 is a great buy, even when just comparing these two. The SLA021, for me, is just a step up in just about every way. Better bezel action, better crystal, better bezel insert, better dial and handset, finishing seems a touch better, I like the adjustable clasp (I enjoyed the 061 bracelet too), the cool factor of the monobloc case, and that wonderful 8L35B movement. I can understand a lot of people opting for the 061 and it's probably the smarter buy, but the 021 is just special.
@@7rslender I'd say too similar...if you want another Seiko driver, I'd go with you tuna 300. That's what I did and I have two very different and iconic Seiko divers. MM300 and the tuna.

Very good comparison Rob. I have the SBDX017. The last of the true Marinemasters. I love this watch and prefer the bezel insert to the new ceramic version. I had the SBDC053 and sold it because it wore big and I just couldn’t warm to the handset.
I have the previous edition, with the non-sapphire crystal and painted bezel insert. I love it. I do want to jump up to the blue MM300 early next year.

Great comparison. I have tried them both and beside the price it's the thickness of the watches that made me choose for the MM200. It just wears must better on my smaller wrist. And my 6r15 is below +4s/day ! What's not to like about it. And if I was willing to go above 2.000 eur for a diver I would stretch it to get an Omega SMP 300 (the new one which is 42mm and the master coaxial chronometer movement).
I absolutely love my Seiko SLA021 marinemaster. I like it even more than my Rolex Submariner (ceramic no-date). I just like the hands and the deep/tall bezel. I dislike the SBDC061 because the handset does NOT match the indices... it's a dull, matte grey color while the indices look like polished metal.
Greatly prefer the 300. The thickness is iconic, while the smaller dial really channels its 'inner retro'. Almost got the 200 to go with my Marinemaster, but, the dial was just too damn wide. It's a nice watch, though, nevertheless. I chose the SBDC153 instead, but, found that that is also a little too "OH, LOOK AT ME!!" size-wise, so, flipped it.
I ordered the Seiko Blue Ocean Dial MM300 SLA023J1 : ) In a few days i will have it! I like the depth that the dial has, and the blue dial makes it even more gorgeous! All watches that have shallow dials are in my eyes lifelessly boring to look at in comparison! I had it for 21 days now, and I enjoy the watch, it's the only watch I wear!
Just ordered the 200 today, comes in tomorrow. I chose the mm200 because it reminds me of my Omega Planet Ocean (42mm, 2500c) which I sold and miss very much. I hope it fills the same role the Omega did. The MM300 is a beast, but I was looking for a more affordable diver to compliment my higher end watches (not afraid to wreck this one, I'm sure thats almost impossible). Hopefully it won't disappoint. I have a not so good track record with Seiko's (accuracy wise).
great review (I know, I'm late :) ). I like the MM200 better. The bracelet is the same, the diashield is the same, its just really the movement that you are paying for in the MM300, but you pay for that also with the excess thickness and weight. My order is in now for the MM200 as its a mature, rather then a new watch! - I'm just slow ...
Does a Baby Marinemaster 200 Crafter Blue (CB13) strap fit the MM300? Both are 20mm lug width, but are the lugs equally long and are their straps interchangeable? Thanks
I think the MM300 is amazing, don’t have one. But looks wise, I just prefer the way the MM200 looks. If someone didn’t tell me all the info about the movements, and prices, I just like the looks of the MM200 better. Not that the MM300 is ugly, just prefer the looks of the MM200.
Sorry Rob, good comparison but sadly it shows that the 300 is never worth 3 times more than the 200.. and it's extremely top heavy in my ownership experience... cheers
One difference between getting one or the other is that the MM300 is best for those who specifically like its own personality that it has apart from the original 6159. The "MM200" is more for fans of the 6159 who can't or won't pay for that ungodly priced limited edition re-issue. Personally, I like both for the different reasons, so, it's not really a competition for me.
I'd take the MM300, especially the older SBDX017 model. The MM300 will be worth more down the road while the MM200 will only depreciate. If you don't like the MM300, sell it and get your money back, you won't be so lucky if you don't like the MM200. Only exception to this I see being is for those with wrists smaller than 7 inches as the size of the MM300 may be a tad too much. I will also say that the deviation in time dial up mentioned by Rob in this video is nowhere near representative of how these watches run. Expect an 8l35 to run near +8 seconds on average and a 6r15 to be closer to +15 with a lot more positional variance.
Get the 300m Tuna. It's cheaper, wears better, is thinner, is easier to service, and gives you all the functionality you will ever need. Only downside is the hardlex on the 300m which is questionably a downside as most people prefer the curved hardlex to the flat sapphire on the 1000m.
@@onemoretime8045 yeah I'm leaning towards it I think. Seiko Canada just informed me a battery replacement on the 1000m will cost about $250 CAD which is way more than I expected
@@matttheoneonly6617 That's a tough decision. If you have wrists that are larger than 7 inches, then the 1000m tuna would be a good fit. In that situation, I'd go for the 1000m as it has the sapphire crystal and ceramics. If you get it for the same price as a 300m tuna, you can always sell it for at least the same price, if not some profit, and get a 300m tuna down the road.

@Rob I look in the space above to see model numbers you mentioned. You dont need to write anymore than the model numbers you showed in the vid. "Yeah I said I was gonna put some stats down here, but I didn’t. Instead I just wrote this so you would read it and at least know I did something down here. I was a Turtle guy because I liked how they felt on my 7” wrist. They just had the right heft. I recently got a MM200 (SPB105) and it is the same thickness but wears ever-so-slightly smaller due to having a slightly smaller diameter bezel. The MM200 has a slightly longer case, lug-to-lug, but it works for me. I will add that the 6R15 movement in my SPB105 is much more accurate than any of the handful of turtles that I’ve owned in my lifetime.
I’ve modded my 063 with mm300 hands, now it looks way better, like it more than my 023. I wish it will be updated with the new 6r35 in the latest sumo in the near future. It makes no sense now to pay more for less.
I almost always read the comments, even the long ones. Anyway, what are the crystal measurements for those two MMs? You're the master of the calipers RR!
Dear Rob, I believe that Seiko baby marine master 200 m dive watch is by far the best dive watch in its range and also is a very nice dress day to day watch. l hope that Seiko uses a signed crown with more advanced running movement having more power reserve.
I personally love love love the SLA019. The 300 is beautiful as well but there is something about the MM200 with the matte dial and the beautiful metallic blue bezel that makes me like that a bit more. The only thing I really like more on the 300 is that cool seconds hand.
I own both the MM300 SLA021 and the MM200 SPB083 "great blue hole". They most definitely can coexist in a collection, because they a have their own unique appearance. I love these watches, just as I do my SPB143 and SPB149. Now talk about similar watches. ;-)
Very good comparison and assessment made dear Rob, yet beneficial at the same time. If you are not a professional diver that you dive frequently then definitely go for the Baby Marine Master at 900 US $, rather than going to the Marine Master Professional at 2800 US $. The only differences are the signed Crown and the Accuracy of time from 0 to 1 Second compared to 5 Seconds per day.
They wear pretty much the same size wise...the 500 case is more tool watch style, materials and movement are really nice...lightweight watch...ceramic bezel insert.. The mm200 is more stylish in my opinion, the case is better refined and finished for sure, and more complex in the lines...bezel insert scratch easier than steinhart.. Bezel action very good on both, lume very good on both( seiko still a little bit brighter even after hours) . The movement in the seiko is a rugged one and does it's job, but it is inferior in my opinion to the eta 2892 in the steinhart... Anyway I love them both...
I'd like to add, though, when service time comes, the MM300 needs to go back to the factory, where, with the "MM200", it would actually be much more cost effective, faster and more convenient to just buy a regulated NH35 movement and get your local watchmaker to pop it in, all for $150 or under.
I had the sbdc053 black previous version to the "mm200" lovely watch and i bought it instead of the sbdc063 at the time. Had it for nearly a year and loved it but in the back of my mind was the mm300 and has been for a couple of years but just couldn't bring myself to spend that on (a seiko!) Or so I thought!!! I now have the sla021, as soon as I saw this new version released and in black not green I something just clicked, yes it was a risk for me as no AD for this watch so it was boughh online but It came and just wow!!! A grail watch for sure that has written off many of the other so called luxury brands of choice in my mind. Tried a black bay, had a seamaster (one before latest) and believe me the seiko is in my humble opinion better, and although I love seiko I'm not a fan boy i just like what i like. So it was a big risk, but It paid off. Just awesome and pics/videos just dont do justice at all even side by side to another mid/high seiko like above. Well done randomrob for comparison with this was out 5 months ago would of saved myself some sleepless nights haha. Thanks and regards from UK.
Save your money and get the MM300 it's a lot nicer. If it feels to top heavy for you put it on a crafter blue strap. It will stop moving around and you will forget about the weight.
I like the case and bezel of the MM200 better than its big brother but I much prefer the handset of the MM300. If I could swap out that handset I'd get the MM200.
Go for the 300M. Should searching is the right way to say it! And from experience…if you desire the 300M don’t settle! It’s hard to call it a beater watch, but once I got mine, I never take it off. If I’d have known that 20 years ago, I’d have just waited and bought one watch for my life. 300M!
Seiko asking 800 for a watch that struggles to match the quality on the bracelets of brand a third of the price....i love the brand its what got me in to dive watch collecting but they ask to much for what they provide...having to grab a strapcode bracelet for every one you buy is just an added inconvenience that seiko could solve themselves if they wanted to i just think they are severely invested in ,"grand seiko" and are happy to keep pumping out what they always have because lets be honest we all still buy them..... Not me going forward but still a great watch minus the bracelet and glass and bezel inserts
Great comparison review. That MM300 is a beauty. It just looks like a true top notch no excuse dive watch.

I know you’ve handled both so how would you compare an mm200 with the steinhart titanium 500? 😊
the mms a little better LOL. But I love the 500 great watch if you have on the bigger side of wrists.
Aaron Guidazzi thank you very much for the detailed reply, that’s very good of you sir 😎
@@TheCrispyjones you are welcome !
Do you just buy and immediately resell a lot? What happened to the PADI MM200?
can you please do a review on sbdc039/transocean?
plz do a video on sumo vs mm200
have u selled sieko divers
I'd like to add, though, when service time comes, the MM300 needs to go back to the factory, where, with the "MM200", it would actually be much more cost effective, faster and more convenient to just buy a regulated NH35 movement and get your local watchmaker to pop it in, all for $150 or under.
Rob, can you recommend me where can I buy an original seiko brazalete for the sbdc063, thanks in advance
theres a couple bracelet listings on ebay for just under $200. I bought mine from a guy on reddit lol
Nice time graph on that mm300. Mine runs +5.
Which year you bought mm300
Both are beauties. But if it were my money, I'd grab the MM300. I like its look a bit better.
100% looks better. The mm200 is legit deal as well
Save your money and get the MM300 it's a lot nicer. If it feels to top heavy for you put it on a crafter blue strap. It will stop moving around and you will forget about the weight.
I like the case and bezel of the MM200 better than its big brother but I much prefer the handset of the MM300. If I could swap out that handset I'd get the MM200.
I always read the descriptions to look for any links
I am waiting "baby sumo" to come😊
Not gonna happen..
Go for the 300M. Should searching is the right way to say it! And from experience…if you desire the 300M don’t settle! It’s hard to call it a beater watch, but once I got mine, I never take it off. If I’d have known that 20 years ago, I’d have just waited and bought one watch for my life. 300M!
Mm200 or glycine combat sub?
Hey Rob, where'd you put the gshock clock?
On wall under the Seiko clock. I will do a room update soon
mm 200 vs Mido Ocean Star?
If the 200 would come with the MM300 handset and a 6R35 it would be an instant buy
Why is the mm200 called "Marine master".
Why are the both watches even compared?
They have absolutely no resemblance to each other.
Do they?
I have the MM200 and I'm looking at the 300. I'm not sure if I should pull the trigger.
No, you shouldn't, for MM300 you can get an Omega.
You can't get an Omega for the same price. Try double.
Good comparison and I for one...do read the descriptions 🤷🏼♂️😂😂
Maybe I should start adding random stories down there
@@RandomRobReviews that would be AWESOME! (And yes, I even read the comments...usually)
What is mm200 model number?
sbdc061
Wait till you have to get the 300 serviced!!. You will soon regret getting the 300. They have to dismantle the thing completely from the top.
Exactly. Therefore the MM200 is always a better choice.
I don't see big deal here, you do it once in 10 years and enjoy the rest of the period wearing this exceptional and stunning piece of art!
@@Alterego808080 It's weak tea compared to the MM300, why deprive yourself lol
@@fraybentos9854 I have both, so no worries :) I was reffering to people in doubt of choosing one

Nice watches
Seiko asking 800 for a watch that struggles to match the quality on the bracelets of brand a third of the price....i love the brand its what got me in to dive watch collecting but they ask to much for what they provide...having to grab a strapcode bracelet for every one you buy is just an added inconvenience that seiko could solve themselves if they wanted to i just think they are severely invested in ,"grand seiko" and are happy to keep pumping out what they always have because lets be honest we all still buy them..... Not me going forward but still a great watch minus the bracelet and glass and bezel inserts
Only the low end Seikos have poor quality bracelets. A Strapcode is most definitely not needed for the MM200, Willard and MM300 etc.
