  • Thankfully, the weather has improved, allowing us to carry out ornithological work as part of the Calf of Man Bird Observatory - bird ringing, nest checks and sighting records. We have had lots of migrants passing through and have been checking on our local breeding populations. Mike and I have carried on with various estate jobs, as well as starting some new projects! All of which, have been very satisfying. Spring is officially here.

That comment has made my day! Thank you so much! If there is anything in particular they would like to see / learn / hear about, do let me know and I can highlight it or do a special episode for them! :)

@@awildguide Hi Chloe, They'd like to know a little more about marine life around the Calf and they asked for a 'shout out' in your next video. They are 9F from St. Ninian's High School, Douglas. Thanks so much x

@@karenhunter4046 Hi Karen, I’ve got my next couple of episodes sorted but will start preparing a marine episode for them! Will give them a shout out and then will upload an marine-themed episode very soon. Great suggestion!

Hi Karen, just wanted to say, I haven’t forgotten about this! The weather has been rubbish but I’m in the process of collecting footage for the marine episode. Hopefully it will be ready to watch in next couple of weeks. Hope you and your class had a good half term/TT!

why the f are you stressing those birds

We are a bird observatory and all hold handling licenses. The data we collect contributes to a world wide collection that helps monitor populations, demographics, movements and shifts in migrations etc. to show patterns and trends. This is valuable information given the current environmental crises. We try and reduce stress and disturbance as much as possible and as I said in the video, it is all over very quickly.
