My name is Chloe. I am a naturalist and environmental communicator. I have just quit my job to live a more simple way of life, closer to nature on a remote island in the Irish Sea. Join me on this adventure as I document island life and why it is so special.
Life on a Remote Island - The Calf of Man (Ep9). Slow off-grid living, estate work, magic moments.
Autumn is here without summer arriving! Movements of birds have been slow due to the poor weather but we have had good numbers of raptors and gulls. Estate work continues and we are prioritising jobs to get done before the end of the season. I have been finding enjoyment in the small things and seizing the moment when the weather allows to reconnect, reflect and ground myself in nature.

Life on a Remote Island (Ep 8). Guests, quay repairs, transformations and baby gulls!
มุมมอง 69721 วันที่ผ่านมา
Summer is still nowhere to be seen! The weather hasn't stopped us though. We have been busy with guests and some big estate projects, the main being South Harbour Quay repairs. Some very satisfying jobs and transformations over the last couple of weeks. Our baby birds are growing fast and most have fledged by now. Autumn migration has begun! @manxwildlifetrust6289 #offgrid #remoteisland #island...

Join me as we explore the underwater world that surrounds the Calf of Man, a remote island and nature reserve in the Irish Sea. The coastal waters consist of a range of important habitats including rocky reefs, kelp forests and sandbanks that support a diverse collection of marine life. So vibrant and diverse, the area is designated as a Marine Nature Reserve. #marine #nature #wildlife @ManxNat...
Life on a Remote Island: Allotment Edition. Living off-grid, growing our own food.
มุมมอง 553หลายเดือนก่อน
A special episode dedicated to the allotment! Since March, we have been working on our vegetable patch. Clearing the vegetation, digging the beds, planting seeds, creating water stores and building a lean-to greenhouse to help our seedlings grow. Living on a remote island in the Irish Sea brings many growing challenges but we will not be defeated! The reward - fresh, homegrown produce! Music by...
Life on a Remote Island - The Calf of Man (Ep 7). Off-grid, sea thrift, reaching new heights!
มุมมอง 965หลายเดือนก่อน
It has not felt like June...summer where are you?! We have had very strong winds and lots of rain. The plus points, our water tanks have refilled and it gives us time to sort/organise more of our outbuildings. The sea thrift has fully emerged and wow, it always takes my breath away. A big project for the Estate Team has been painting the gable ends, enabling us to reach and explore new heights....
Life on a Remote Island - The Calf of Man (Episode 6). Returning to the Calf after a week away!
มุมมอง 1.2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Spectacular steps, fantastic flailing and magic mezzanines! After a week away visiting friends and family in Cornwall, I have been catching up on jobs. Mike and I have been marking the way for visitors as we prepare for the start of guest season and the island's birdlife is picking up as we are in the midst of breeding season!

Thankfully, the weather has improved, allowing us to carry out ornithological work as part of the Calf of Man Bird Observatory - bird ringing, nest checks and sighting records. We have had lots of migrants passing through and have been checking on our local breeding populations. Mike and I have carried on with various estate jobs, as well as starting some new projects! All of which, have been v...
Life on a Remote Island - The Calf of Man (Episode 3). Living off-grid during stormy weather!
มุมมอง 1K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have been back on the Calf of Man a month now and re-adjusting to island life. We have had gale force winds and heavy rain so we have been focusing on inside jobs a lot - lots of tidying and organising the various outbuildings. When the weather has allowed, we have managed to start prepping our allotment, move stone ready for the dry stone walling course and get out in nature. We have been bu...
Life on a Remote Island - The Calf of Man (Episode 2). A busy first 2 weeks opening up after winter!
มุมมอง 7644 หลายเดือนก่อน
An insight into the first 2 weeks back on the island. The Calf is uninhabited over the winter so the old stone farmhouse is very cold and damp and the outbuildings have similarly been exposed to the elements. Our main jobs are building, decorating, repairs and lots of cleaning to get the island up and running! I hope to showcase the work carried out by myself and Mike, who make up the Estate Te...

The island is owned by Manx National Heritage and run in partnership with the Manx Wildlife Trust and we are here for the season, that runs from March to November. At the age of 28, I have just quit my job to pursue a different lifestyle, a simpler way o...

Each year, the grey seal pups on the island are named after different letters of the alphabet and last year was X, Y and Z. Meet some of the pups and learn about their life cycle. *Disclosure - seal mating/copulation at 04:59! @manxwildlifetrust6289@manxwildlifetrust6289 @ManxNationalHeritage
W for...Willow Warbler!
มุมมอง 11111 หลายเดือนก่อน
The wonderful Willow Warbler. A widespread warbler that visits the UK in summer, before continuing on their journey south to Africa. The fact that these small and delicate birds traverse thousands of miles is impressive enough but the most impressive thing is that for many, it is the first time they are making that journey!

I would always have someone standing on the bottom of the ladder for health and safety
You looked so nice all dressed up 😊
Thank you 🥰
You are doing such an amazing job looking after the historic buildings and all the amazing wildlife. I hope you find lots more occupied burrows!
Thank you! There is always something to do, that’s for sure. Thankfully, the population is doing really well here.
