    Tip - Spring Plate Retainers: A 2" long 3/4" pvc pipe on the bench, flip the valve over with spring plate onto pvc, then push. Retainers fall into pvc pipe with no worry of them flying across the room. A socket will also work. You're Welcome!

      Your videos are the best and helped me to save money in tight times. Thanks. I threw a P02493 Code and the EGR cooler and valve was just cleaned 2K miles ago so going to try it again and hope it clears the code. Thanks again for your incredibly thorough videos!!!

    Hey Dave, first, thank you for the videos.
    Secondly, this is the second time I did this & this time I used Simple Green instead of the EGR cleaning fluid from Mopar. If anything, I think it maybe did a better job. Plus instead of the fill up & let it sit at an angle & such, I had plenty of fluid to just immerse it in a small Rubbermaid storage box. Slosh it around, work the valve, run a brush around and through it, etc.

    I just wanted to comment and thank you for the video. I took my 2016 Ram 2500 in for a water pump recall and they're saying I need $1,800 EGR cleaning parts and labor. Of course I declined and turned to TH-cam. Watching your video makes it look insanely simple and gives me all the confidence I need. You're saving a lot of people a lot of money, $1,000 labor is what this dealer wanted plus parts. I liked and subscribed as well.

      On that year you only need to replace the crankcase filter....egr valve and cooler cleaning is not needed. It was part of the 67,500 service on the older trucks but not the 2016....and that’s per the service info from Chrysler. I hate when I hear shops trying to upsale all 3 items when it doesn’t apply to the year they own. It’s like a rubber stamp that they use on all year models when selling services.....lets me know they are not checking to see what’s recommend for each vehicle. Been thinking about doing a video about that topic.....just not sure what to call it yet. I need a short title.

    Dave, what about the solenoid itself. Can that be cleaned at the mechanical portion? I have a 2014 that isn't supposed to be cleaned, but I've had CEL Code P0402 "Excessive Flow" at EGR valve. I would like to clean the valve and replace the solenoid but they only come with valve and solenoid at $1100! CEL went away and has not returned. Now I have a P20E8 "reductant pressure too low" so looks like I need to clean the DEF injector. Man these emissions are a drag! Thank you for your help with the video's, we appreciate you! Mike

    Thank you so much for this video. Just had a code pop up on a 2009 motor home with the 6.7 Cummins and it was related to the EGR valve. Only 26k miles on the engine, and just over 200 hours of idle so I'm not sure why it got so sticky but I pulled it out, used purple power in the valve and let it soak for a few hours. Cleaned it up and popped it back in the engine and voila, no more code. Good thing, since we are just 2 days away from a 2000 mile road trip. Saved me at least a grand.
    Only one note: To the guy at Cummins who decided it'd be a great idea to paint the entire engine red, including the banjo bolt threads and the screw heads holding the EGR actuator on, fuuuuuuck you. I spent so much time removing paint in the phillips head just to be able to remove the screws. Had to brush the banjo bolt threads to remove paint and use More than half my time disassembling was dealing with that shit. Nice that Chrysler didn't do that on the Rams.

Is it just this egr cleaning? Should I just pay the 800 dollars and have the dealer do it since I can just write it off as repair maintenance on my taxes? Have a P0489 code for a 2008 2500 6.7 Dodge Ram. Removed vavle assembly and found the internals moving freely, no sticking or drag noted; cleaned anyway. Hooked up vavle motor / solenoid and turned ignition on and off while noting travel of "plunger". Had previously noted the "plunger" could be moved or dragged to various lengths. Is this normal or should it be permanently fixed? I have spent the better part of the afternoon attempting to locate this motor part number 5254657 / K5T70286. Various sources list the motor but say it is no longer available!!! Numerous sources list other motor / solenoid but on close examination found to be missing one of eight contacts. Can you recommend a source? Buying the whole assembly makes no sense to me.
    And just so you know I enjoy your videos, crisp and to the point with a presentation that say's "you can do this". You are an excellent instructor. No idle flattery! If you ever have a aircraft question contact me, it what I do.

Well when I went to start truck after it didn't start up right away, I had to shut off then try again, well it ran but now I am getting really bad gas milage, and Idel speed is up almost 1500. Is one or more injectors clogged & or EGR valve stuck, where do I start trouble shooting. Thanks

    Have you ever heard of having all this done if you need your EGR cleaned?
    ERG cleaner soak
    Adjust valves
    Replace crank case simulation filter
    $1200 at Freedom.
    If I don’t have it done it can dump oil into the turbos.

I told them to go through with the EGR service, but luckily caught your videos when I got home in time to stop them. Dude, perfect video! I just got the dreaded 67,500 perform service warning and here I go. Interesting link I found at Geno's Garage showed how Truck Trend did a cleaning fluid cutaway comparison which showed how Purple Power actually did a much better job than the Mopar fluid, here's the link: www.trucktrend.com/how-to/parts-accessories/1606-we-bench-test-diesel-egr-cooler-cleaning-solutions/

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to the Mopar cleaner....the one thing I do is not dilute it. The instructions say to dilute it....I use it full strength. I have heard of the purple power being used but havent tried it myself. It seems that both work at cleaning the systems. One things is that once you clean it.....it will get soot in it again due to the nature of the exhaust and how the system works....so there really is no real "clean". The purple power would be easier to get without having to either order it or go to the dealer to get it. Thanks for the link and info. Much appreciated. Thanks for watching as well and make sure to subscribe!

    Hi I did the egr cleaning but there are a coupe of things going on with truck now that are weird. #1 is the reset of service light in dome how do I do that. # 2 my 4x4 low light flashes intermittently while I drive I also hear what I think is it going in and out of 4x4 only notice this while I wAs work on egr. This also happed while I had the truck off. Also I think it’s draining my battery’s cause they where fully dead the next morning. Is there a short? Anything would help this is car # 56 don’t want to kill it to. My friend owns auto parts store says I have black hand of death. Bought truck with 157k now at 215k bought last February it’s a 2500 2007.5 6.7

      Cleaning just the turbo wouldnt have any affect on those items. It is just a simple unplug and unbolt job. The 4wd issue will require scanning all the modules and seeing what code or codes might be present. Battery drain will require running a parasitic draw test to see what might be staying on causing the batteries to die. There is nothing really common that I have come across for that issue. As far as the Perform Service message.....Key on engine not running, depress brake pedal 2 times and then the gas pedal slowly 2 times, then turn the key off. It might take multiple attempts to get to reset. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats hard to say......shakes/vibrations can be hard to check and require alot of driving and checking to try and isolate. Nothing common comes to mind.....mainly based on the "intermitant" symptoms. Most items would cause a shake all the time or each time checked.

      @@MotorCityMechanicI had the same problem. Had tires, front end, EVEYTHING checked. Dodge replaced the from stabilizer rod..that didn't fix it. Turns out the "ears" the front of the frame on each side, underneath are not connected across the front of the truck. At speed they shake, vibrate, whatever you want to call it. Look on you tube under Dodge Death Wobble. Several videos about it. I bought my part off ebay for around a hundred dollars. You can put it on in about 30 minutes.. Very easy and instantly fixed the problem. I got the part with the steering bearing on it...The part, a bar, connects the left and right ears and connects in a few places.Try it, you will like the fix...actually there is a u tube video of a guy putting one on his truck. ANYBODY CAN DO IT ...very easy job to do.

    I've got a 2012 Ram 3500 with error code P2454-DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER PRESSURE SENSOR A CIRCUIT LOW. I am having trouble locating information on where the sensor is at and how to replace it. Do you have a video for this sensor or any advice on how to replace it.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a video related to that sensor. I recommend checking the hoses going from it to the DPF to make sure no issues there. Also.....if there was work done recently I would make sure the hoses werent swapped. Another item is following the wiring to make sure to damage to any of the wires. Otherwise it is bolted to the side of the trans and has 2 rubber hoses that leak to metal lines that go to the DPF. Here is a video for that sensor....different code but shows you the location and replacement. th-cam.com/video/wv6pJWwZkes/w-d-xo.html

    if this egr valve sticks can it cause regen issue with the dpf ?...I just ran into a dpf filling up to 80 now 90% and regen constantly staying a on issue. only code present the week prior and until the dpf issue was p242 which I replaced that temp sensor even got it out without having to swear and it appears to be gone but P1451 dpf performance and dpf at 90% still exist after 30 miles of driving ...this is the first time in 60k of me owning the truck to have the dpf full message ...I'm just curious if the egr could be stuck causing this or bad temp sensor on the egr ...obviously it could be a few issues and either way i'll be pulling the egr possibly the entire valve and cooler to flush entire system ,but I'm just curious if my thoughts on the egr causing excessive soot /regen issue is causing the dpf to fill...I guess the bad temp sensor couuld have caused it and I just have not driven enough to clean it...lol...amybe some resistors in the right spots and the entire system from turbo back could "fall off" .

    What are the symptoms of a dirty EGR system? My truck surges badly while accelerating in the 1500 to 2k rpm range, with a steady throttle and at around 20 to 40 mph. Also Surges like its running out of fuel at hiway cruise speeds like 70. Dealer says its the egr sytem cleaing that will cure it

    MCM, what about the cross over tube and intake horn from the intercooler. Should these be removed as well and cleaned? Also, since the soot is just baked on carbon, could using something like I use to clean my rifles with Ok to use or too harsh for the EGR unit?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John. I dont see a reason to clean the intake horn personally. It doesnt hurt if you want but you will need a replacement gasket if you go that route. If you have the time and not in a hurry then I see no harm. As far as the cross over pipe. I do clean those from time to time depending on how dirty it is or if I had a failed EGR cooler. Just use your judgement on that. I like to use the Mopar EGR cleaner myself and I dont dilute it....I go full strength. The guys at Geno's Garage say that "Simple Green" works well but I havent had the chance to try it myself however. Thanks for the questions and make sure to subscribe

      The overheating caused that code to set. Cleaning the EGR valve wont help. We need to find the cause of the overheat. There shouldnt be unless you have an exhaust leak. Double check all the connections to make sure nothing is put of place. Any leak would show soot as well. Otherwise no noises that I have heard or maybe payed attention to.

    I DO have a question. It appears you are a Mopar mechanic. Apparently my 2018 Ram 6.7L doesn't like being idled a lot. Anyway, I had a gross loss of power and a MIL illumination, so I took it in to the dealer as it only has 3500 miles on it. They told me that it needs an EGR cooler, that that would be covered under warranty but that it also needs the EGR to be cleaned which would NOT be covered under warranty. They quoted me $400 to clean the EGR. I declined because that's a lot of money. Anyway they told me that Mopar would void my powertrain warranty if I idle my truck too much. My question is, is that true?
