Stages of Lung Cancer & It's Treatment | Explained by Dr Manish Singhal (Sr. Oncologist)

- Lung cancer is the most common malignancy and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. There are two types of Lung Cancer namely Small Cell Lung Cancer ( SCLC ) and Non-Small Lung Cancer ( NSCLC ) which is further subdivided into Squamous cell & Adenocarcinoma.
Lung Cancer has 4 Stages:
Stage 1 where Cancer is found in the lung, but it has not spread outside the lung.
Stage 2 where Cancer is found in the lung and nearby lymph nodes.
Stage 3 where Cancer is in the lung and lymph nodes in the middle of the chest.
Stage 4 where Cancer has spread to both lungs, into the area around the lungs, or to distant organs.
Each stage has its own pre-defined treatment, which may include - Surgery / Chemotherapy / Immunotherapy / Radiation.
Under Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), the disease began with changes to the genes. These changes, called "mutations," cause the lung cells to grow out of control. The Mutations detected in Lung Cancer Patients can be the following:
- Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)
- ALK Mutation
- BRAF Mutation
- HER2
- MET Mutation
- PD-L1 positivity

Hi, I have a question: my mom was diagnosed 5 month ago when it was 5 mm and they keep sending her to do different kind of tests, she had to wait for a month to get in line to get one test done and so on. Respected sir my father has a 4th stage of cancer and he got covid 19, he is in treatment and the doctors saying his one lung is collapsed and another lung is infected. Sir, My father is suffering from stage 4 lung cancer. And it was diagnosed in Jan 21. And he is having very hard and unwearable pain in his shoulder and chest. Chemotherapy has been done also. But the doctor who was doing his treatment now he has denied for further treatment and suggested to move in Jaipur. I have visited multiple hospitals and doctors but all are suggesting different different cures and treatment.

My friend's father age of 72yrs old got stage 4 lung cancer.. the cancer is not spreaded anywhere else but in both lungs. The doctors gave up any kind of cancer treatment.. all together no treatment given but the termination has given that he will only be able to survive not more than a year. My question is as your suggestion that a stage 4 patient could live another few years what kind of treatment could an expert give? Because when I spoke to him he was so normal.. he said he wasn't coughing any blood but the doctor said look after him at home do everything he likes... almost terminated.. please kindly advise me what advice can I bring him?

I live in Europe. In july 2019 I had ovarian cancer which was found at last minute and had to go through a massive surgery.. 13.5 cm tumour in my ovaries. It was spreaded everywhere acept heart. 13 procedures been done. I had two acute cardiac arrests during the surgery. Kidneys stopped functioning, half been taken, half of my pancreas been taken, spleen been removed, gallbladder been removed, appendix been removed heart stopped, lungs collapsed, brain stopped functioning, blood clotted around palvis area and so much more.. and then my funeral was arranged in the church by pastor. But miraculously I started to breathe slowly.. I'm fine now.
