man this brings me memories, i used to left this intro play on for hours just to listen to the music, I once got a complaint from the neighbors for playing it too loud but i couldn't get enough of it, it was and it still is mesmerizing as fuck.
Someone posted about this on FB and was confused too. This alternate intro only will appear if you beat the game on Perfect Agent difficulty I believe. It also plays this after you beat the game and then you have to reset the console to get out of it. Once you do that then instead of showing the first mission intro it plays this instead.
you only need to beat game on Agent or Special Agent as I haven’t beaten perfect on N64 and I’ve got the Alternate opening sequence. Sadly it’s not available on Xbox
My god. I rediscovered this track turning on my N64 after +15 years and am so pleased it’s been uploaded to youtube. This game was the after school pastime for me in grades 11 and 12 and combat training with 4 friends and 8 sims was the fucking greatest thing in life back then.
I know I'm late but it will only do this if you beat the last level. I never really tried it but some people are saying if you let it the game run it's intro cycle for like 5-10 minutes it will work as well but I don't know about that.

All of these posts are 100% correct. Whoever finally decided to upload this (and credit to Vexxarr for being so modest wrt taking the plaudits) is a genius. It's fantastic. This PD64 opening screen sequence was sadly lacking from the recent XBox 360 reworking and the developers would have done well to include it. May I also say that GoldenEye 64 was an truly amazing game but Perfect Dark is a refined, improved, and dare I say 'Perfect' sequel which is better in every aspect.
I get that this comment is old as hell and im assuming you were just a child when you posted this, but you can have the PD64 opening sequence considering copyright issues. What a long winded stupid fucking comment this was lol.
0:31 When the magazine articles said this game was rebranded too many times, starting from a 007 sequel game, passing through a The Terminator game to then be the game we love and know, I've never imagined it was so straight encapsulated in this moment. Literally its a T1 intro homage played here, LMAO!
@appreciatesinsanity It's the standby screen the game goes to if you insert the cartridge, turn on the game and let it sit. It's a catchy trance groove that stuck with me all these years and - despite the entire "soundtrack" being available online, this track is NEVER included. So I posted it in all it's 64bit glory. It loops fully twice and then I provide an aesthetically pleasing (to me) fade. Perfect length for those who want to rip it as an mp3 and put it in their party mix.
could make a perfect James Bond movie intro, if there was a first scene, and face to the strange mysterious intro. Just needs some 90's pop/rock diva singing something about darkness and perfection, finishing with the well known riff, and you're all good~

I didn't have this intro until I completed 'The Duel' bonus mission (which also has a wicked riff on the main Perfect Dark theme). Thanks for uploading this dude and I love the copyright note ;) haha. Im so glad I still have this and my n64 :D

I managed to get a new n64 copy but this intro is not there like I remember. Do i have to beat the game to unlock it or is there some setting or button to press to start this?

when I emulate this, it doesn't play this cut scene and it was always one of my favourite things on the original N64

You only can see that scene when you first play perfect dark in the original hardware. PC Emulations can't do it for any reason.
Beat the game first. Then it will work.
