This theme song does some strange things to me, just as it did when Red Dwarf was still aired: you know it's a comedy but the spacey spirit of the music gives you the feeling of wanting to be a part of an adventure bigger than yourself. Anyway it reminds me I'm still one proud Dutch smeghead.
Hey I know where there's buried treasure but we have to get the other two halfs of the map. One is in Syria the other is in Thailand but held by gangsters. Who's ready to go with me to get those maps.
I just love the theme song. It instantly puts a smile on my face and still makes me feel good in 2024. I loved the show so much! I had a challenging job in health care, and I would crawl home from work late at night and watch it! It would restore my soul. 😅😂❤❤
I used to watch bootlegged vhc tapes of this all the time when I was younger. I was working graveyards, I had gone through a horrible breakup and felt isolated and alone, and I really felt like this show resonated with me.
And for all these years, believing I was the only one who loved this theme song, kept playing it over and over again by rewinding the old VHS, to find there are others who recognize its brilliance is awesome! It only aired here in the Ununited States on PBS every Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 10:30. God, how I used to love Saturday nights. Best show ever.

same here! I remember when I was really young my dad had the Rimmer Experience song on his phone and I used to ask him to play it all the time. ~12 years later I'm 16 years old and finally watching it haha
I love how this was only meant to be a little side show to fit in after the news... And it turned into a HUGE hit! It wasn't meant to be more than 3 or 4 seasons... AND IT'S STILL GOING!
My dad was born in the UK, and had red dwarf seasons 4,5 & 6 on VHS, I remember watching this as a kid, then spent my whole life thinking this show was just a fever dream 😂 until one day when I was 29, I was like woah, what was that space show I remember there was like a guy with an H on his forehead and they were alone in space, god I'm happy I found this show again🤣🤣🤣🤣
fun bit of trivia: it was discovered apparently only recently that the synth noise at 1:54 is actually someone (I'm guessing Howard Goodall because that would make the most sense) saying "Red Dwarf" over and over again through a vocoder (an instrument that basically makes your voice sound all electronic)

My older brother used to put Red Dwarf DVD's on whilst I was asleep, and apparently I used to try singing the Theme?? Makes sense since I can't say the words "Its Cold Outside" without breaking into song
Always loved this theme. It sounds so nostalgic and melancholic... which is fitting when you think about it. It was the 90's, our last moment of respite before everything went down.
The Red Dwarf Theme is one of the most Recognisable and Iconic for British Television. Hours of my childhood was spent watching this with my mother (who was a teen when it first released)
it is.. the song is also longer and has a "full" version wich talks about engaging hiperspace and being alone in the universe "you and me..and the galaxy" .. so in full it references both Lister dream of going to Fiji and the situation of being the last (presumed) human in the universe startating a voyage wich should take millions of years to complete
