New subscriber here! I agree with you 100% on the political ravings within the knitting/crochet community. I belong to several knitting groups here in NYC and literally had to quit two of them because the discussion would turn from knitting, yarn, patterns, and how to, in a flash to politics. Sometimes the discussions were so vitrialic that I would quit knitting, and shut down. It seems all the participants wanted to discuss is politics. I got into knitting to relax, not to be riled up over politics and race. So, I quit said groups never to return. As for LYS there are some in NYC that are snotty. I've been to them and have never returned. I go to Micheals to get some yarn, or I order with my friend from Hobbi, Knit Picks or Hobby Lobby. And yes, I love acrylic! I'm allergic to animal fiber so acrylic, cotton and bamboo are the only fibers I can use. And I dare anyone to challenge me on that.
First time watching one of your videos and I just loved it! I crochet and knit with a loom which was actually what got me into working with yarn before my crochet skills took off. I could never shame anyone for using acrylic yarn, I love the price point, softness, and versatility of it and its always been there for me when I needed it! Sometimes though I do like a nice wool blend if I can afford it.
That scarf only needs one ball of yarn ... so either you need to make it wider or accept it's going to be really long if you really want to do the color transition. I used one of those skeins and made an entire Citron shawl that transitioned through 4 colors.
The mindful needles are really good. They are pricey, but worth it. Try saving up if you can. Also, I recommend Chiaogoo or HiyaHiya needles. I like to have at least two knitting projects going and one crochet. The reason is because I always have my TV knitting. A project that is super simple that I can watch TV as I work it. Then I'll have a more complicated knit, like a lacy cardigan. I find having something to switch to, helps me stay interested and prevents burnout. I'm a little ADHD, so it's hard for me to focus on one thing. Anyway, the more needles and cables you have, the more you can cast on. I recommend having at least two sets of interchangeables. I learned crochet from my mom, who has passed on now. Crochet was my first love, and I wouldn't be a knitter today if I hadn't been a crocheter. Good luck with your projects.
This was my first time watching your channel. Great video! I have crocheted my entire life, and tried to learn knitting several times, I finally found Continental style and it was so easy for me. My fingers just can't do English style. I am very surprised that you found English style easier to learn. As for acrylic yarns... you should see my local yarn store, it's mostly acrylic and cotton yarn. But I live in Mexico, and could only wear wool 2 weeks per year, so it makes sense. There are some acrylic yarns that are so soft, definitely not like the acrylic yarns from the 80s that were rough on the hands.
I had a very negative experience at a quilt shop and will not go there again. Two employees were busy gossiping about someone they knew and almost totally ignored that I was in the shop. Ugh! Sadly, there are no local yarn stores near me, only the crafty stores, and those are 50-70 miles away. That’s the price I pay for living in the Deep South (rural LA). I highly recommend ChiaGoo knitting needles for sock knitting. I use two cabled needles, size 2.25mm, 24”, and knit 1 sock at a time. I have very large feet so I always start at the toes so I can try it on as I go and I don’t have to play yarn chicken at the end of the sock. Happy sock knitting! They make great take-along projects because they are small.
If you don't get your needles from Santa, i would lurk on Ravelry's destash forum. People are often selling off their equipment. I have a Chiao Goo interchangeable set and a Hiya Hiya set I got there plus lots of crochet hooks and even some straight needles. Chances are you will see your needles there if you check it out often enough. I also get destash yarn now and then from Ravelry. I wish your experiences at the LYS was better.
I'm learning to knit and the main thing I struggle with now is learning how to fix mistakes. Do you have any resources that might help? I know knit and purl but that's it for now. I'm an advanced beginner crocheter too.
New to your channel. I enjoyed your video. I agree about not bashing people for their views. The old adage about saying nice things or shut up. I have subscribed and look forward to your new videos. P.S. I am a sock knitter and love The Crazy Sock Lady.
JuJu Knits and West 7th Wool? I don't go in those shops either. I am a WOC and didnt feel welcomed when I went in either. Lady that owns JuJu's put a very unprofessional rant on her FB that made me not want to go back in there. Not sure if it's still up.
It’s sad to hear that you experienced that. Hopefully more yarn stores become inclusive and welcoming! I have never been to JUJU knits and only got gifted Yarn from West 7th Wool.
No not really. I have been to LYS in other cities in my state and they have been very welcoming. However the ones that are closer to me are objectively not as welcoming. But their is one a city over that is opening up next you so I think that will be a better place for me.
I was working on a crochet dammit doll while listening. Maybe I should send it to you 😂😊 I love knitting, but I can't tension properly so going back and forth between knits and purls is not fun. I am making a sophie scarf too. I'm using a zauberball and have to admit that I'm a little disappointed with how the colors a turning out compared to how it looks in the ball. It's a bright and fun ball; but turning out a bit muddy. Oh well So people actually tell you that you shouldn't buy so much yarn?! If you aren't borrowing money from them to pay your grocery bill, they should mind their own business ❤ Have fun knitting and crocheting 🎉

@@electladynanci oh man it sucks that you had to quit those groups! I hope you can find a better community within Cozi Crochet
That scarf just looks gorgeous on you!

Acrylic is a great yarn, it really is!
Your pink scarf is stunning ❤
Thank you it is my favorite
I know exactly what yarn store you are referring to . The store in the neighboring city is smaller but the staff is friendly and helpful .
It is so nice to know there are some great yarn stores out there!
I don't go to that yarn store anymore either, I'll tell you why next time I see you.

That is a really good point. She could switch to the shawl version if she doesn't mind starting over.
Yeah I think I will only use one ball now based on your recommendation! THANKS A BUNCH!👍👍👍
ahh yess lol I think Imma do the shawl with another yarn in mind!

I love chiaogoo! I have addi clicks which are good as well. I have knitpick wooden DPNs and I recommend as well
That’s so smart having a simple and complicated project at the same time!
I love all the great recommendations!
New subscriber! You are so beautiful and your hair is gorgeous ❤❤❤
You are so sweet, thank you!
Loving the tea 😊😊😊😊

It’s so interesting to hear about the different styles, maybe I’ll have to give that style a try!
I have always been team bamboo needles. I invested in Chiaogoo 4" lace needles. I am in love!
I am interested 🤩
@ I got mine used on Etsy. They looked brand new.

I’m sorry that happened to you. I love those take along projects too! I relly am considering ChiaGoo Needles

I really loved making them!

Yes if you look up @Carrie Craftgeek on TH-cam she has such great content and advice! she is my go too!
That scarf is gorgeous ❤
Thank you so much!

So are you judging all LYS based on your experience with that one yarn store? Does that sound right to you?
No not really. I have been to LYS in other cities in my state and they have been very welcoming. However the ones that are closer to me are objectively not as welcoming. But their is one a city over that is opening up next you so I think that will be a better place for me.

I always get the same thing about the yarn. I don't mind though it's so satisfying to have yarn on hand!
You sure the yarn store people aren’t just Always weird? I mean… come on. I like weird fiber people.
@@amyf8231 I love weird fiber people! I would consider myself a weird fiber person!
I’m going to try knitting 🧶 in 2025! I want to make a Sophie scarf too!😘
Yess you should I love working on it so far!
