John Lennon - Real Love (Take 1, Recorded 1977)

- Error: I accidentally made an error at 0:20 as Lennon actually said "Gone" and not "Lost" in the line "Gone like some forgotten dreams" in this version of "Real Love." I read the lyrics of the song so I wasn't aware that the lyric was actually "Gone" since it said "Lost." My apologies for the error.
Written by John Lennon.
Recorded 1977.
On the Beatles “Anthology 2” album (1996).
This song is a message to all my friends who I enjoy being with in my life (Bonnie, Bush, Shame, Rf, Silver, and Tristan). This year has been horrible for all of us, but at least we can get through this together. If anyone is reading this, I hope you have a good 2023 and a good night. Thank you for reading.

Sending love to anyone that reads this.
Peace and Love. ✌️
Thanks so much and you too 🙏☺️ This song with John Lennon among with others makes me cry 🥺
Aww,Thank you! ❤
I need love, real love.
Thanks ✌🏻
The chord pattern is incredibly beautiful, very classical in many ways
I love it
So true.
Very beautiful.
The pre-chorus is heaven
Damn. John emerged from his house husband break. And started writing on a whole other level. And then gone. Life often makes little or no sense.
Yes, songs like Woman, Just like starting over, Watching the Wheels. Then he had songs like this in the works, like Real love, Free as a bird, Now and then, Grow old with me. Most composer lose the ability with age, but John certainly still had it all the way to the end.
It proves that Lennon never really lost it. A very mixed solo career, but towards the end he was writing among the best he's ever written.
@@mmjahink And the very beginning with the Plastic Ono album. It was the invention of grunge 25 years before Nirvana.
First two solo albums are classics, not a bad run. @@rman52
@@robmarshall9026Agreed, He was an exceptional artist. And revolutionary. If you say you want it or not..lol.
Haunting melody he was amazing
Still amazing. Here everyone is eternal. Imagine this artist of immense talent. 0:00 "Real Love"

John Lennon
It's hard to believe that he's been gone longer than he was with us. Thank you John Lennon for everything!
Yes, I've thought about this, too.
He’d be very woke now
@@jamiecook7926 No way.
@@jamiecook7926 ?
Only gone physically. Otherwise John never left. Feel him.
The fact than the piano isn't on tune, make this version more special and beatiful.
?his piano isn't out of tune lol... he's playing a dissonant chord during the verse G with an added Eb ...its right before he starts the chorus. its a flat 6th
It is a little bit out of tune, like an old honky tonk piano.
@@MrTimconaway yes the honky tonk a real one indeed
The sound on his piano sounds ethereal
@@chrisjeffrey7570 Lol, it's totally out of tune!
One can only wonder how the finished versions of Real Love, Free as a Bird and Now and Then would have sounded had John not passed before he released them as solo singles. We'll never know but what I do know is Paul, George and Ringo did John proud with how they completed these songs for John.
Long live The Beatles ❤
WHEREVER YOU ARE, YOU ARE HERE ❤
it’s so beautiful to hear a song stripped down to its beginning
I've always preferred thiis version to the Beatles Anthology version. It has so much feeling in it.
The version on Anthology is superb.
This is miles better.
John can brighten the darkest day ❤
He also had the ability to darken the brightest day
His piano abilities were always so underrated, I thought.
Great version!
Reminds me of my dad and hearing The Beatles albums playing as I fell asleep. He was a huge Beatles fan...really miss him.
He’s the lucky one, up there now with John and George❤️ love brother
Same with my father and me.
@@frankpetermann9366here's anorher one! I remember the frist time he show me Imagine.. 😊😢
Exceptional song, singing, and piano. That may have been Yoko playing, it sounded so good. Does anyone out there now for sure? Love you, John. We'll all see you again soon.
I'm really glad the other three took this song and produced it fully on the Anthology.
Much more haunting then the beatles remake...the raw piano is mesmerizing.
Totally agree.
Not going to lie, listening to take 1 of Real Love got tears in my eyes. I could practically be sobbing actually. It's like listening to an angel who understands the pain we may suffer as human beings, and then that angel is saying "It's going to be okay. Everything will turn out just right..." Is this crazy to picture this very thought over a song..?
no. its not crazy at all. music touches our soul. it helps us discover what we must find when we're lost, alone, and scared. and part of that discovery is knowing no matter how alone and sad you may be, we can always go back to music with open arms knowing it'll never leave you. the only thing in life that has never failed me is music. The Beatles did that better than anyone.
Thank you for explaining!😊🌹
You aren't crazy, but you are the ultimate weirdo.
Beautifully put ❤️
So beautiful- A hugely underrated song showing Johns clear genius both melodically and in his simple, peaceful lyric
この曲を聴いた全ての人が愛と平和に過ごせますように。
We all become kids again when we hear him sing...
This is, in my opinion, the best song of John
Your opinion is a nipple. 👍🏼
Lol
its really good man
i agree 100%
I´m 43 and started listening to the Beatles when I was 3 years old, because of my parents. John is my hero, in the world of music.
All my little plans and schemes
Lost like some forgotten dreams
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waiting for you
Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys
Seems like all they really were doing
Was waiting for love
Don't need to be alone
No need to be alone
It's real love, it's real
Yes, it's real love, it's real
From this moment on I know
Exactly where my life will go
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waiting for love
Don't need to be afraid
No need to be afraid
It's real love, it's real
Yes, it's real love, it's real
Thought I'd been in love before
But in my heart, I wanted more
Seems like all I really was doing
Was waiting for you
Don't need to be alone
Don't need to be alone
It's real love, it's real
Yes, it's real love, it's real
Yes, it's real love, it's real
It's real love, it's real
Yes, it's real love, it's real
It's real love, it's real
Yes, it's real love, it's real
It's real love, it's real
John is up there as one of the greatest melodic pianists.
I love this raw version...I actually dont think it was meant to be a Beatles song...this is classic Lennon at his best when he was coming back to us....thats why its so haunting and so sad to us now... We were the lucky ones to live to know his magnificent talent
Damn, this take's chords under "no need to be alone" feel even more powerful
its that augmented chord with the vocal hitting that high register minor ... chills . absolutely beautiful .
God I would kill to have a voice like that.
Lennon was a metaphysical lyricist, his musical and poetic images are mysterious and sublime. His best songs are full of transcendent, sleepy, strange sadness. Stockhausen was also amazed at Lennon's modulations.
It's a pity that the rock'n'roll era and John's rock'n'roll background pushed his main calling as a philosophical lyricist (although I love his furious rock'n'rolls).
@ArchibaldMeatpants So are you, go on, write something this good...
@@experi-mentalproductions5358practice and passion buddy
He himself said (in 1980) that he'd had a period where he'd thought of Paul as the melody guy and thought he would do just straight rock and roll, before coming around and being like "hang on, that isn't true."
@ArchibaldMeatpants You've uploaded one video and it's call of duty... Something tells me you're not on the same level as Lennon...
@ArchibaldMeatpantsthis mf thinks he is as good as John Lennon ☠️☠️
They should have released this instead. It's perfectly imperfect. Such a good feeling. His voice is so familiar and warm. His piano playing was perfect for that song.
100% agreed
this was released in 1996
@@peteseaton1547 not in this version..
Take 4 is better in parts
They should now use AI to seperate piano & voice abd to improve sound quality, then take the best bits from all takes and add then together
I wish John had released this raw version, its the simplicity in the melody that's so unbelievably beautiful. Free as a bird demo, was just the same, raw pure genius x
Totally agree.
Incredibly, I prefer this to the Beatles version. John Lennon could write a song like no other. Peace to everyone
THE VERSION SONG OF THE ANTHOLOGHY WAS GOOD BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF GEOR MARTIN WOULD PRODUCE IT WITH FREE AS A BIRD
I agree with you 💯 but you have to understand that if it wasn't for John Lennon This song would have never existed, I'm not sure that this song was meant to be a Beatle song ,but you know what I'm glad it happened, Because when you take a John Lennon song that was Beautifully Written and you add the three remaining Beatles (Paul McCartney,George Harrison and Ringo Starr) That song then goes from Good to Phenomenal
I'm kind of curious why the Imagine soundtrack'(88)wasn't used by the other three for the Anthology project.I remember it being cleaner on the soundtrack.
I’m sorry but the version on anthology was awful, not John’s song but the production, the vocal production especially is crap. ‘Real Life’ was the best version.
God bless John Lennon. ❤😊
That’s beautiful.. the tune of the piano makes it one in a million
Just a gorgeous song. Magic to hear this first take. John's ability to weave words and melody was unparalleled. What am I saying, IS unrivalled, he will live forever.
A wonderful song bye our dear John. He tells his truth in it

I agree🙏 Peace 💫
I loved hearing John playing piano and singing, all by himself.I really liked the out of tune sound.I wish he had left us a suitcase of these songs, just him and his piano.
Wow, debates aside about the all the personalities in the band and what happened in their lives. John for all his flaws, was a force of nature, his piano playing is so from the heart and visceral. His singing so pure.
Beautifully said.
@@tjcint Its a really beautiful song.
@@SuzanneO707 It is. From the most beautiful man. So much of what is written about John Lennon is not true. All who knew him well deeply loved him. It might interest you to know Yoko Ono is a powerful witch. She works for the dark side. Her mission was to destroy The Beatles and then John Lennon. She achieved both.
Awesome! Great John Lennon!
Never heard this before. Really cool. I always enjoyed hearing these rough demos from artists. Interesting to hear how a song develops into the final product = a hit!
i miss you so much john
When the Beatles re-did this posthumously, using John's old recordings, it packed a wallop. This version is awesome, thanks so much TrueFreddyKing.
I hear this piano, and I have to fight to keep from weeping. There is something in this sound that touches the place where someone I truly love lives in my heart. Strikes the chord of him alive. The sadness, relentlessly relived.
only Lennon could write melodies so beautiful
Such a gift, and then such a loss. We must all focus on the gift, the man, and his message, which is both timeless and universal.
Unbelievable!11 He had this song done, complete and perfect in 1977! Nothing else needed, so beautiful!
Wow. I love what the other 3 members did with this song; but hearing the original version just hits different. It's so ethereal, haunting, and just incredibly beautiful. I honestly love this just as much as the finished version, but for very different reasons.
he was the brain of the beatles. miss him
They were all very intelligent, open-minded, well read men.
@@TheJayson8899 Yeah, but the saying goes "John was the mind/brain, Paul was the heart, George was the soul and Ringo was what held it all together." (or something along those lines)
Beautifully expressing the unlocking of his true self set to a somewhat haunting piano. This version stirs more in me.
Great poetry!! John's attitude!
0:21 - He actually says “… *gone* like some forgotten dreams.” Later version it’s “lost” but here it’s “gone” (but not forgotten!).
He really had the magic. The Beatles were amazing but he was definitely a bright shiny star that shot up and burned out too fast
He got murdered by some asshole who was jealous of him and mad that he was rich and famous, essentially (source: Wikipedia). That's not what I would call burning out, he was taken before his time. He had several more records to make and he should be celebrating his 83rd birthday in October, but thanks to a nutcase with a gun and irrational envy that isn't going to happen.
He didn't burn out. He got killed. He'd have likely produced loads of great music had he lived! Rip John! 😢
@@marksimpson2321Good point. He didn’t decide to end it like Ian Curtis or Kurt Cobain, someone else did. 😢
Touching Touched By Genius ❤
I love both versions, but really, this is my fave. It's much more moving and I can listen to it over and over....thanks for posting!
This is such a beautiful song. Oh John... 🥹🥹 thank you
This has been my favorite Beatles song, ever since I first heard it when I was 12 🥰 The version that was released with the second Anthology album is definitely better, but I still love hearing this unpolished version of just John singing it ☺
This is so beatiful! heart warming!
La música y voz de Lennon te transportan a otra dimensión, parte de su Magia. Único e Inolvidable John 🙏🎼🎤🎹💕💫
y esta tocando en un piano ligeramente desafinado sobretodo las notas mas bajas
There are The Beatles.
Then there's everybody else.
That says it well.
I just love listening to these releases of isolated tracks or bootleg versions of songs (a BIG thank you to those who post them) ...as a musician it makes it all so real to hear these tracks without all the production/perfection of the final release ...it's just extremely talented musicians playing their instruments and creating their art ...makes it all very human
It’s sad to listen to this. I feel John really matured from his earlier days…hence the Starting Over Album. Robbed.
Should have been a # 1 chart topper
Beautiful piano John !!! Love it
MUCHAS GRACIAS POR COMPARTIR ESTA JOYA MUSICAL. EMOCIONANTE hasta las lágrimas. Saludos desde Lima Perú

John Lennon is the Beatles. He started and finished it. Songs like this no one can touch
