    Really thankful I stumbled onto this channel as I'm going to start performing my own maintenance on my '17 Titan XD Diesel. Videos are well done and very informative.....Thank you

    Hello, I have the same truck but a 2016. Mine does the same thing but only when it’s warm. If the truck sits, it will start. Once I drive it and then turn it off. It won’t start
    Any idea with that?

    This is the reason I change the fuel filters in my 16 xd platinum reserve every 8,000 miles when I do my oil changes. Plus the cabin filter and air box filter.

    • @BuiltForSpeed

      I do every 10k. But this has nothing to do with filters. It happened literally after i filled up and drove .5 miles parked it and it didn't start

    You can’t run a diesel that low you risk the high pressure pump. Also I always have an extra set of filters for this reason.

      agreed i never go below 1/4 tank for the sake of the shitty cp4 pump. always use fuel additive every fill up as well.

    I just went through the same thing w my 2017 and had to replace the water/ fuel separator $952 not the dealer has it. Fuel filter sensitive, have to replace them every 10k miles

      Yea just use the diesel fuel additive lubricant and cleaner if you can put 1bottle of thag on every fill up or atleast every other. Because you never know what quality fuel gas station has.

    • @BuiltForSpeed
      @BuiltForSpeed  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @garrettm3787 in scan tool, there's a command to open and close. If your truck is cranking fast, and fuel pressures look good. It's your actuator.

    NEVER EVER LET A DIESEL GET BELOW A 1/4 TANK!

    • @BuiltForSpeed
      @BuiltForSpeed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. That the rule i go by. But sooner or later that algae from bottom of tank would of come up sooner or later the previous owner must of used bad diesel fuel and let it sit.

    • @BuiltForSpeed
      @BuiltForSpeed  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sadly, every diesel truck blows up. Im in other diesel groups, and on a daily basis, they have an engine go. Theres a lot of factors that have to be looked at why it did what it did. With titans, a lot of it is a user error because these engines are very sensitive or emissions.

  • @thomasmccrea8149

    So last week I changed my fuel filters ( second time since I bought my 2018 Cummins Titan with 50k miles ) Changed filters exactly the same and no start. Bottom line is my lift pump took a 💩. I had it towed to a mechanic. Monday he is installing a Fass Lift pump. I hope that fixes it 🙏🙏. Thanks for your video.

    • @BuiltForSpeed
      @BuiltForSpeed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weird. It didn't prime or something?

    • @thomasmccrea8149
      @thomasmccrea8149 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, I cycled the ignition 3 times and the pump primed , or seemed it did , then when I started it she had a low fuel pressure warning and shut off. After that she would not start. After about the 10th time attempting to prime the filters (which I noticed were not completely filling) the primer pump made a loud high pitched howling noise and shut off. No more primer pump running after that. I checked the 20 amp fuse and that was ok. So I’m pretty sure the primer pump died. A lot of TH-cam, Facebook and Google discussions about similar issues.

    • @BuiltForSpeed
      @BuiltForSpeed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @thomasmccrea8149 if it started making weird noises then possibly it is bad. But at that mileage that unusual. Im almost at 90k no issues beside this algae build up on bottom of tank that was washed up into the fuel system. So now i use little diesel biocide and fuel additive and 2stroke oil. But did not have to change a single thing besides fuel filters. Maybe someone didn't change your trucks fuel filters for long.

    • @dbel723333
      @dbel723333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thomasmccrea8149 Just did the filters on my 2017 Titan XD. 30K miles on it. Almost duplicate to the issues you had. Mine started and ran for a few but while I was under the truck checking for leaks the lift pump just started making a howling noise and it hasnt started since. That was two hours ago. Im still sitting waiting on a tow to the dealer :(

    • @ElaBellll
      @ElaBellll ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had this issue with my truck the first time I changed the fuel filter. Turns out the issue was I didn't screw the filter housing on all the way. It looked like I did but I actually didn't, and the fuel pump made that really high pitched howling and I had low fuel pressure. Screwed the housing on further (it felt too tight but it went) then there was no gap at all between the housing and the mount, and the truck built fuel pressure and started immediately after.

    Same thing happened to me right now. I’m on the side of the road.
    Where is the high pressure fuel pump actuator and how do I open and close it? Please help!!!

    • @BuiltForSpeed
      @BuiltForSpeed  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well it depends why yours shut off while driving. My scenario usually happens when your fuel system is contaminated with algae and it gets clogged and cranks very fast and no start. If yours shut off while driving that odd. Make sure you didn't put gas or DEF fluid in your tank. Did you just fill up before driving out?

    I had a engine failure in my 16 XD, I put a 18’ engine in, does exactly what you explained in this video. I changed out the high pressure pump actuator and the fuel rail pressure relief value from my old engine and it didn’t change anything. Cranks over fast, it builds 70psi of pressure from the lift pump but no rail pressure.

    • @BuiltForSpeed
      @BuiltForSpeed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Alot of the failures are due to not changing oil on time people go over 7k on each oil change which is a bit no no specially with dpf system intact.
      But regarding your fuel system issue. Do you have any codes?

    • @TD3_Archery
      @TD3_Archery ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuiltForSpeed only code I get is low fuel pressure while cranking bank 1, but I have 70psi of lift pump pressure and fuel to both rails, it’s just like the injectors are not turning on because the rail pressure it not going up.
