    Dell Inspiron 15-3521 laptop. PNY 500 GB kit since it has the usb connector and link to the Acronis software. Remember after downloading, right click in Windows 10 on the downloaded .exe file and followed steps in the video. Thanks, Dale, for a very helpful video. .

    Crucial has now partnered with Acronis and offers a free version to be used with the Crucial SSD's. I have ordered a drive but not yet received it so I have to say I don't know if there will be any hiccups with the migration.

    Thanks for the video. On acronis website on several KB articles they tell you to install the new/target disk in the laptop and usb connect the old disc to avoid boot issues with the new disk. You method is a lot easier, not having to futz with getting the laptop to boot off a USB drive to begin the clone process. Do you know if this is a difference between older versions of acronis and the acronis 2020 product? Long time user or acronis for backup but have not used the clone tool for ages.

    I use acronis to make a clone in case a hard drive fails and also make weekly backups for the data. It is well worth the money and I have had to use the backups on two occasions. I clone the hard drive once a year and keep it in an empty bay in my desktop.

    Hello Dale...great tutorial. I've been watching your videos and they are all great. I was just wondering if i buy the paid version of acronis, can i clone an old bootable HDD to a new SSD using a USB 3.0 Hub on my laptop? Hope i hear from you soon. Thanks.

    I appreciate the video! Wondering if you could address using True Image versus Disk Director to do disc cloning, and why you might chose one over the other. Thank you!

    • @CadillacComputerCenter
      @CadillacComputerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. Well there are big differences in the two. True Image allows for cloning both basic disks, MBR and GPT. Disk Director only clones basic MBR disks. However, Disk Director offers many disk management tools. Such as creating multiple boot partitions, etc. On today's new computers, you certainly want GPT support. You can have both Disk Director and True Image installed together. You can check out both at Acronis.com. both software packages have great disk tools. Dale

    Hi, thanks for posting. My internal desktop pc has a full 500gb drive which I wish to clone to a 1tb SSD. I am wondering if purchasing the sort of external SSD reader you demonstrate is better than fitting the 1tb empty SSD internally, your advise will be most helpful. I have subscribed to your Channel, as I find your commentaries easy to listen to, in depth and very helpful. Thanks for sharing. Regards, JB.

    Thanks for making such a detailed and informative video. I downloaded Acronis cloning software for the SABRENT HDD/USB enclosure I bought and am going to practice this cloning procedure on a Toshiba 500GB HDD that came out of my old Compaq laptop. It is exactly the same Brand and size to the one in my current working laptop, that is a ASUS X501A. I'm hoping that following your instructions will make this cloned disk bootable in my ASUS laptop. If that works well, then I plan to buy a 1TB SSD for my laptop and upgrade to that. I'm not 100% sure which SSD will work with my ASUS though. Do you think that a 1GB Crucial MX500 will work in this laptop. I'm just not very familiar with modern laptop 2.5" d rives so I don't know what 3D NAND or Gen 3 means. Any suggestions which drive will work for me. I'm considering a Crucial device or a PNY or something similar...

    Great video, concise and to the point! I have also just received my Crucial 1TB MX500 that I will be cloning from my Toshiba Satellite C50A 684 GB HDD. 2 questions: 1) Crucial has a free Acronis version I have downloaded as opposed to downloading WD...Have you ever tried Acronis for Crucial to do a Crucial SSD clone? 2) I am going to a bigger drive so should I use automatic, proportional or manual to set the partitions? Whatever the choice any recommendations? Thx in advance

    • @CadillacComputerCenter
      @CadillacComputerCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I have used Acronis for Crucial. Try the automatic option first, then check your partition layout. Automatic usually is the best option. All Acronis versions are pretty much the same. You can always use proportional. Dale

      @@CadillacComputerCenter Thank you for the fast reply. Turns out the adapter I had was the wrong one and I am now waiting until next Tuesday or Wednesday for delivery...I'll let you know what transpires. Thx again.
      FYI a few months back I installed a 500 GB SSD into a 2010 HP Pavillion with an I7 and 8GB RAM no cloning in this case as the original HDD had died so did a clean install of Win 10. It was an old work laptop and was no slouch but now it really flies. This is why I want to do my 'newer' Toshiba (2014)...

    Did it with a lower end Toshiba, it didn't boot. Didn't create a restore disc before, didn't want to open it again, so planned to update the bios and by mistake I used Acronis to wipe my flash drive and killed it.

    Is this process any different for just cloning the storage drive? My computer has the OS on the C drive but I will be replacing/cloning the D drive. Do I just run the acronis clone in automatic mode then install the new drive and that's it? Idk why it would be different, but I'm a bit new to this

      Hi. I assume you are using Acronis. Before you clone again try this.....open msconfig in your run box, disable all non- Microsoft services, go to task manager and disable everything except acronis, same with services. Reboot, then open up cmd as admin, then at the prompt, type in. Chkdsk /f. Space after chkdsk. Then schedule the scan at next reboot. Then try clone after it reboots from chkdsk. Dale
