The first pc I built started off with just a cheap AMD Athon 3000g with 8gbs of ram and a 500gb HDD. I have slowly upgraded all of my parts to an RTX 3070, Ryzen 5 3600x, and 16gb of fast ram. Despite these upgrades I was confused as to why my pc still had trouble loading games and took a while to get up and running and recently learned that storage has a big impact on performance. I just bought a 1tb M.2 drive and am excited to experience faster load times! Thanks for the video

Excellent tutorial! Spoken in simple terms and easy to follow Acronis software. This western digital customer loves that you made the link for initializing (from your previous video) so readily available. Just upgraded from a 750 gig hdd to a 2tb ssd without a single hitch! My almost 10 year old Asus q500 has never been snappier! THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial. Worked perfectly in my Dell Inspiron 5675 desktop. I had a 3TB HDD from 08/2015 and switched to a new 1 TB WD SN570 NVMe. I removed my HDD, restarted and the Dell recognized the NVMe as primary boot immediately, no issues. I began by using Macrium but it kept giving me errors (0 & 23) so I used Acronis (got it free because I had the WD drives) and it cloned in one take - approximately 30 minutes for approximately 250 GB.
Very helpful as I’ve had very little pc building experience I’ve used a lot of your videos to help me along the way. Every single one has been very helpful and worked each time
What if I had a current m.2 drive and want to upgrade to another m.2 drive with a larger capacity? My current one is the boot disk that contains windows, how could I clone the drive and then remove it and put my new m.2 in the same spot on the motherboard?

Brilliant set of videos. Just upgraded my SSD drive and didn’t mess up once (fingers crossed). Does my old SSD drive still have all the cloned data on it and if so how do I get rid of it? Just delete it all from windows???

In many cases clone is done for the purpose of upgrading to bigger drive. In such case there will be additional steps needed to move unallocated partition and merge it with main boot partition.
I do believe the newer programs allow for this. It may have to reboot and then restart to "allocate" the larger space. I've done that, but the warning "make a backup". But since you still have the old HD and you do it right away, the old HD would by your safety. eg power blackout, PC freezes.. that stuff.
Hey bud, some friends of mine in the tech security industry recommended this video, as well Acronis and both totally delivered! Thank you so much for the simple walk-through. I’ll be sure to share with others who are looking to do the same sort of cloning.
Hi, I already have an SSD card installed into my pc but I want one that's got more storage and faster, what can I go about doing to copy from an already used SSD to the new one
Very good. I forgot that program allowed you to use the HD in another PC. I bought a 2.5 SSD a few years ago, it has a program to copy that HD to another. But only that brand HD. I tried a "PC mover" program. I moved from a slow PC to a very fast HP desktop. same OS. It did move 80% of the programs and stuff, but icons and a website folder did not. Spend 3 hours checking for missing icons and fixing other problems. Plus a number of programs needed to be reinstalled, with the registration codes. Chrome would not update, so I ran a reinstall of chrome while it was open with my 12 windows and many tabs. Then had to re-log into everything. Chrome, Paypal, Facebook and other programs as non of the "saved passwords" were transferred. It didn't transfer Notepad for goodness sake ! An yes...every MB seems to have a different BIOS and key to press. These newer motherboards have so many options.
7:42 Everytime I get to this stage and press next it loads for a small while and then nothing happens. Does anyone know what's happening? I have everything else sorted but it's always stops here. My version of Acronis has a "What to exclude" option under Disk Usage if that helps.
@@marktorres2396 I was able to solve this problem and clone my hdd to my ssd using macrium reflect 7. The program is free with a quick google search and the cloning process was quite simple There is also a tutorial on youtube by 'random access' showing how to use it if you need. What about if I want to only clone a partition? As I have a 1TB HDD thats partitioned however the new SSD is only 512GB so is there a way to only clone local disk (C:) as with both disk (C:) and (D:) combined is already more than 700GB
Yes, just change the boot to the SSD, if your old drive is there you can delete the windows folder and use that space for data. These programs won't allow you to just copy the boot and windows on the SSD so you need a SSD the same size as your present boot. I do believe if the current boot drive is bigger then the SSD, but all the data is still smaller then the SSD drive, it will run. Prices have dropped in the past year, a 1 TB is under $50 ! The move to the M.2 is the new thing, but your MB has to be just 4 year or younger ?
Your video was great! Especially liked the indexing feature on scrolling through the timeline. Instead of the normal HDD to SSD, I tried SSD to HDD without success. I was trying to 'bounce' the clone from an NVMe to HDD back to ANOTHER NVMe because of single SSD capacity. The process was identical to yours but apparently these items did not transfer to the HDD: Boot, Page File, and Crash Dump. Only the Basic Data Partition transferred over. So I purchased an external NVMe enclosure today and will try again! Thanks.
Couple questions: I am planning on doing this with a computer. It currently has a Hard Drive, and I am going to install a SSD M2. When doing the clone part, do I need to format the new SSD first, or will that automatically be done during the cloning process? Also, I plan on removing the old hard drive, do I still need to go into bios to change boot priority, or will the computer automatically choose the new SSD with that being the only option?
Used the free version of this from Crucial's website, and it somehow cloned everything, while breaking the boot on both drives. It didn't matter which drive I plugged in, both asked for a keyboard language, then said 'Exit to Windows 10', it would reboot, and then ask for a keyboard language again. Had to re-install Windows with a USB key to get it to load the OS. Urgh.
Hey, thank you for this tutorial. I have a question, I'm currently planning to upgrade from Sata SSD to NVME SSD, and will follow this method for cloning into the new NVME. My system is currently on Legacy. After upgrading to NVME, do I need to click on something to change it into UEFI??? or will UEFI be the default since it's NVME? Keep up the good work man! Hoping for your response.
UEFI is the BIOS. It suppose to protect the boot process. You secure the boot process when you make changes. So if a virus tries to run during boot, it won't. Of course I read recently the "codes" to a number of BIOS companies were stolen. These days most AV, and browsers will pick up any virus.
Got it working , had to go into disk management, and selected the new ssd , and right clicked and shrink partition (or memory cant remember) and then i entered 1600mb, cause thats the amount of total partition storage the old disk drive had, and tried all your steps again and it worked! I guess the new ssd had no partition storage separated so you gotta make some space yourself on it
@@joselosoya1231 Your boot drive was bigger then the new drive. You can "shrink" the original drive size (back-up) so the new boot can work. Even thought the disk was not full of data, the program cannot realize that and has to make the same amount of sectors on the new drive.
I have a 500 gb SSD that my Windows operating system is on I have multiple external hard drives but I was thinking about upgrading my main 500gb SSD to a 2 TB SSD. Do you think it is better for me to replace the original system drive? or should I just simply add the other SSD into the mix? I plan to use this SSD for games and other things such as video files I want to edit. So I was thinking about moving one of my Long term storage hard drives to another position and put the two terabyte hard drive in the secondary position. Of course the other option is to simply replace the original system drive with the 2 tb SSD, looking into it it doesn't really seem that simple 😅.
Great video.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Question: i want to replace a hard drive to a ssd in as HP all in one desktop with usb 3.0 , can i clone the hard drive using the usb adapter to ssd 2.5? or that only work on laptops? Thanks!!
I just cloned my hdd to an m.2 ssd, but now my ssd is not being recognized in devises and drives. BIOS doesn’t recognize it either so I can’t make it my primary drive.
I installed new hard drive in my pc. At first it works well. I turn it off then turn it on again and I dont have a display anymore. And I made a boot usb with aomei backupper to boot it and clone my old one to another pc.
Arconis has now replaced True Image with "Cyber Protect Home Office Essentials" and it behaves a little differently. I am getting stuck at a "what to exclude" step when trying to clone a 3TB HDD to a 1TB NVME SSD. The HDD only has 153GB of the 3TB as used space and the rest is 2.7TB of free space. It is trying to copy the free space, any easy idea on how to troubleshoot that?
Just wondering how this process will be affected with Windows 11 or Windows 10 machines that have a TPM chip enabled/encryption (most lickely bitlocker).
Just wanna say I didn't have to buy acronis when I got my new drive from crucial. It apparently comes with the drive. The app will need to verify a crucial SSD is installed first though.
So people of the internet. Stupid noob question for a noob pc builder. Recently built my first PC, and I'm already looking to upgrade it when I can. If I'm understanding this correctly. The Operating System, Windows would be on the SSD/Memory storage. So if I were to upgrade, let's say my Motherboard. Would it be safe? Like would it start up normally? Or would I need to start everything up? Also what is y'all advice in regards to Upgrading? What should I focus on upgrading first?
I have a HP 19 all in one . I have an external sata cable but dose not recognize wd blue ssd when pluged into usb. it recognizes the old seagate , is there another trick to get it to show up?

"there may not be enough free space on the system partition to boot up your operating system after disk cloning are you sure you want to continue" when trying to clone my old hardrive on to my 920 evo plus nvme m.2 with 1000gb ive started the cloing process witha a hour left should i be worried
So that I get this right. If I have a SATA and am upgrading to a larger one, I can connect that via USB and clone it that way and then just swap em out correct?
I have Acronis True Image 2020. I tried to use it to clone my Laptop C drive to a Seagate 1 Tb portable drive (via a USB port). No trouble selecting the source and target drive, but TI did not present the screen asking how I intended to use the cloned drive, AND when I checked the Seagate drive "folder" no data or files are shown and it still shows full capacity. Any ideas?
@@philliphunter1981 It worked perfectly for me. My SSD showed up this morning and it's installed now. It took a couple hours to clone, but my laptop has never been faster.
How did you upgrade your internal drive I’m moving from a 256 gig m.2 to a 500gig (I don’t need more than that for my windows drive) m.2 now can I store the clone on a network drive or cloud based drive as the other m.2 slot is the WiFi card
I've had to do this on my two PCs ... after a power surge and the damage done because of it. A question for you: How do you preserve your links? Links like custom folder icons? The new drive could have a new name assigned to it. I renamed my drives to the original name (label), but this did not work. There must be something else that the computer is using to establish links other than the name (label) of the drive ... otherwise, all would be identical to the old drive ... setup ... environment.
i already used acronis cloning in Sept, which worked, however, i used it this last weekend, it took half the time to clone, had to do it twice, as the first time just failed. second time, cloned, was told to reset pc and when everything came up, my drive, the cloned one, was blank.
Hey, I saw your video "Why isn't My Headset Mic Working & How do I Fix it", I have and 1 - 2 splitter cable to connect both inputs in to my pc as my headset has only one 3.5 mm jack, and I've tried everything, but it still does not work, and instead to listen to me, the microphone listen to my computer, like when I open a TH-cam video the microphone is actually detecting those sound instead to my, basically it listens to my desktop.
After I copy the OS into my new SSD and and change the boot order can I delete everything from my old SSD including the OS and still keep using it as a secondary storage?
I did all of this, changed boot priority, now my Lenovo starts up exclusively in Automatic Repair. I can open BIOS and change boot priority back to the original hard drive, it boots windows no problem. Any suggestions?
I get to an option. What to exclude, I dont't know what to do.. I want to select the whole C drive that is of 1 TB and filled about 100GB. So, If i don't tick any option in 'What to exclude' it selects even free space. How to remove free space from getting included?
When using Acronis to clone a W10 boot drive, is it really necessary to initialize a new drive first? I didn't, and Acronis copied the MBR automatically. While the cloned drive can be used as a data drive, it is not recognized as a boot drive, but this may be that my source drive for the cloning had corrupt boot information, which is what prompted me to clone a new drive. Another issue may be that the source drive is an HDD and the destination drive is an SSD, so I may need to toggle something in the BIOS in order for the cloned SSD to boot properly.
I purchased a new HP with 256gb SSD and I want to install the WD Blue 4Tb and went to clone the 256 using the Acronis program. When doing so I connected the WD SSD drive to the only SSD Port 2 available. When starting the clone disc function it showed the interface as RAID. Another video I watched on the process stated not to use an SATA port that is designated for RAID. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. And how can you tell if it is a RAID Sata port? I can't find that info anywhere.

Your videos are great
O am goin replace my local drive
Worked perfectly, thank you
Great video.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice video. Thanks.
Is safe to delete files from the old bootable drive once they've been cloned and the priority has been set to the new drive?
I installed new hard drive in my pc. At first it works well. I turn it off then turn it on again and I dont have a display anymore. And I made a boot usb with aomei backupper to boot it and clone my old one to another pc.
love this detailed and so helpfull to me video!
Great explanation! Even Fuhrer coulndt say it better!!
Thank you!! Just what I was looking for!@
Just wanna say I didn't have to buy acronis when I got my new drive from crucial.
Excellent video!
I have a HP 19 all in one . I have an external sata cable but dose not recognize wd blue ssd when pluged into usb. it recognizes the old seagate , is there another trick to get it to show up?
Thank you! Great video!
I have a question!
I have a pc, i only have one slot and in that slot is a wd blue sn 570 and i bought a samsung SSD 980 1T NVMe.M.2, the question is how can i clone my disk? Thank you!
*Brilliant but how do I clone onto a new computer??*
"there may not be enough free space on the system partition to boot up your operating system after disk cloning are you sure you want to continue" when trying to clone my old hardrive on to my 920 evo plus nvme m.2 with 1000gb ive started the cloing process witha a hour left should i be worried
It erased all my program files and I had to reinstall windows

So that I get this right. If I have a SATA and am upgrading to a larger one, I can connect that via USB and clone it that way and then just swap em out correct?
I have Acronis True Image 2020. I tried to use it to clone my Laptop C drive to a Seagate 1 Tb portable drive (via a USB port). No trouble selecting the source and target drive, but TI did not present the screen asking how I intended to use the cloned drive, AND when I checked the Seagate drive "folder" no data or files are shown and it still shows full capacity. Any ideas?
Anyone know how good Western Digital's free cloning software is? I just bought a WD 500GB SSD to replace the 500GB HD in my Asus laptop.
I’m in the same position I’m about to get that drive and that’s why I’m looking at this video
@@philliphunter1981 That question is above my pay grade. All I did was replace my 500GB HDD with a 500GB SSD (2.5" SATA.)
Ah right lol
I download the free version of Acronis Crucial. It would not work. Wondering is both drive need to be purchased for Crucial? BTW great video!!
Thanks for this video!!
After choosing the destination disk, it just asks me to restart and nothing happens after restarting. Anyone experiencing the same?
Another issue may be that the source drive is an HDD and the destination drive is an SSD, so I may need to toggle something in the BIOS in order for the cloned SSD to boot properly.
are all these drives in the computer or is the one you cloning to is in a dock?
I purchased a new HP with 256gb SSD and I want to install the WD Blue 4Tb and went to clone the 256 using the Acronis program. When doing so I connected the WD SSD drive to the only SSD Port 2 available. When starting the clone disc function it showed the interface as RAID. Another video I watched on the process stated not to use an SATA port that is designated for RAID. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. And how can you tell if it is a RAID Sata port? I can't find that info anywhere.
