One thing I really like about this channel is that Chris defers to Jo and her thoughts rather than speak over or think what he has to say is more important. Check out the 3 min 14 sec mark where Chris says "Go ahead." Lastly...if this were an episode of Star Trek I'd be worried about Jo and Chris since they are part of the "Away Team" and they are both wearing red shirts. 😮 😳
Really cool insights John. Although I must say I actually really struggled on this video. Jo was dealing with some throat stuff and she didn’t really talk that much so I kind of felt like I dominated the entire video :-) I’m also kind of a fast talker, and I can talk over people. I appreciate your comment though and how intently you’re watching the video.
Nice job on the video. I subscribed today. I like Cebu City and Dumaguete. When I first arrived, in the Philippines, my Fillipina wife wanted to look for property in Dumaguete and the Valencia area. I made specific trips to Dumaguete to look at property. Nothing clicked. I looked for a year in Negroes, Bohol and Cebu areas. One day a realtor showed me a townhouse in Cebu City and it clicked. I am super happy in my choice. My advice is take your time and you will know where you want to drop anchor permanently. All the best to those looking for that permanent place to set up camp.
You and Jo's insight is definitely appreciated and pretty much confirms for me what I had concluded when considering Cebu as a possible stop over. The more I looked into it and thought about it I realized that, as much as I would have liked to stop over for even a few days, I am simply not a big-city guy and pedestrian and vehicular traffic does not appeal to me AT ALL and, therefore, Cebu is out of the question. I originally considered Cebu for a month, then it was 2 weeks, and then one week, and then a few days and, finally, decided not to stop there at all. I had wanted to use it as a jump off point to get to a couple of the islands as side trips using the airport but the remainder of the time spent there would just be miserable. As always, thanks!
To many expats who don't know much about Cebu, there are lots of towns and cities outside the tri-cities (Cebu City, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu) whose cost of living is relatively low yet just a few minutes drive to either the big cities or the beaches, mountains and waterfalls with excellent road network crisscrossing the mountains of Cebu island. Road network in Cebu is much better (mostly paved and interconnected to each other) than virtually all other provinces in the Philippines. So you have way more things to do in Cebu when either city or country life bores you to death. If city life becomes a bore already, you can drive (scooter or car) to the beach or mountain easily and visit hundreds of blue waterfalls, blue springs, lush mountains, chic cafes, white sandy beaches, island hopping, snorkeling, diving, without spending too much and your willingness to explore.
There was vlogger -We Wander before and had extensive videos north and south Cebu visiting waterfalls, beaches and resorts. Too bad the couple broke up and he is now in South Korea doing biking travels and stuff. His gf just disappeared. I think she wanted to be a model or more to herself but it didn’t work out.
I agree, living in Dumaguete will give you a more closer to filipino life ,and is not nearly as built up as Cebu. IT park is giving more of a western life style with all the amenities, stores and restaurants to make you feel like home. Finding a good place to live in Dumaguete, or other towns, can be had by word of mouth, meaning asking around. Cebu is growing so rapidly that there are almost too many places available for rent.
Are you serious? Dumaguete on a per capita basis has a high percentage of expats to Filipino resident. The vloggers are painting a rosy picture of this once idyllic place that sees a continued influx of foreigners resulting in pollted air and beaches with a Filipino community that feels it is paying a heavy price because of expats bidding up house rentals, food, and services. The Island of Cebu is beautiful, and Chris has not even explored it. IT park is not the island of Cebu.

Hey Chris absolutely love your videos! As a 32 year old guy from a small city in Ireland where would you recommend for someone like myself. I’m not a massive nightlife guy but I do like to enjoy myself on occasion, would there be enough in Duma to do to keep someone like myself interested for a few months? I know it’s a very general question but I’d love your input.
Duma is definitely small town and there are a couple places to go to but not many. I would say you’re right on if you’re in the small town and the occasional night out I think you’d be all right in Duma
If you like being part of civilization than Cebu is for you. If you choose Dumaguete I hope you like roosters and drunks who love to sing. Almost like Ireland but way hotter.

Normally second question during a new conversation with locals is, if you are married or engaged or have already a girlfriend. This is, where it usually it is starting to start.... lol
I was wondering how you were filming the video by holding a selfie stick handle and nothing else showing. I know there is a selfie stick because the shadows show one but not visible when viewed directly. After a little research, I now know there is such a thing as an invisible selfie stick. Interesting videos from what I've seen so far. Keep up the good work.

In your live you mentioned that dating in the Philippines, while better than the US, hasn’t been as easy as it’s portrayed on TH-cam. I would love to see a video about that. Some TH-camrs make it sound like girls will be lined up at the airport waiting for our arrival.
Hey Chris! It will be very interesting to hear your upcoming experiences living in Dumaguete especially compared to your comfortable year long condo life in Cebu Business Park. 😎
I've been in BGC for a week now, cant stand the place. I think i need to flea from Manila in general. TH-camrs seemingly make videos on BGC at 7 am on a Sunday and dupe people into thinking it's peaceful. It's not. It's awful, crowded and noisy. Maybe I'll check out Cebu and Dumaguete. Im from a small coastal city in Australia called Newcastle, one hour from Sydney. Its a quiet and peaceful city. I like it there but its too expensive. Hopefully i can find a somewhat similar environment here in the Phillipines. Just a small and not so major city where the essentials are available to me and its peaceful and not chaotic and awful. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Peace and thanks for the video
@CarefreeChris Really appreciate the invite brother, will let you know if I get out there. Unfortunately, I already booked a hotel in BGC for a few weeks (no refunds), so I guess BGC is just my base for a few weeks while I explore elsewhere a bit. The initial plan was to just get familiar with BGC prior to moving there. Change of plans now I guess

Chris, you are full time in the Phil? You are relatively young in your early 50s. How do you address the question of what you will do with yourself day in and day out? It's something I think about. Say in 1 year, 2 years, what do you see yourself doing on a daily basis? I know every one is different. For me, I need something to do, some structure. How do you look at it?
Hi I’m Rick I am planning to come to the Philippines next month. I have been watching your program and your other friends and I am very very interested. Maybe we could possibly meet and I can learn from you guys. I think your program is great and I think the Philippines would fit perfectly for me in my retirement thank you.
Chris...correct me if I am wrong. Seems to me the minimum price of a studio with balcony in IT Park would be 25k per month. Is that correct or do you think possibly between 20k and 25k
@@RealGaryGibson There are several Condo towers with balconies at IT Park, Park 38 Avenue being one of them. 25K is rock bottom for a furnished Condo (22-25 sqm).
Make Cebu City your jump off point to beautiful beaches in Central Visayas. See the sites, go to Mandaue to see the beaches but they are not as stunning the others. Drive north or south of the island to really enjoy your stay. Go to Moal Boal or Bantayan Island. Dumaguete is nothing but a hype. It’s full of old expats on their last run. Transportation sucks, tricycles are expensive, no way to get to the mountains but on back of scooters, the esplanade is dirty and smelly, dark sand beaches, and deep waters. Use both cities as your gateway to other nicer places, like Bohol or Siquijor or Boracay.
As a man 48 year old man wanting to find a good woman (wife) but I don't party, drink, or wanna sleep around. I also would like to find a woman that hasn't been with foreigners either. Do you think Dumaguete would be a better option? Also, I work out all the time, is there healthy food and a gym there? I would be planning on a 30 day trip, I know thats not enough time to probably meet someone but strange things can happen.
I think Duma is a good option for a guy that likes the country as well as the guy that’s already in a relationship. I don’t think the dating options are that good in Duma.
You say you met Joe online but it wasn't a dating app, I'm guessing you'd rather not say the actual forum you were on or club or group, so I'm curious if you could share an example of what type of a group was it? Thank you
Chris great analysis n comparison between Cebu n Duma. What do u think, about 25% cheaper than Cebu? Definitely no dating in Duma n more for the committed couple/marriage
Go to Davao in the spring so we can hang out. I’ll show you some nice spots! 🤭 If you want to feel Mindanao. 🤭 Rent a car and we take off. The four of us! 😊
You haven't been outside IT Park when you say the accommodation is so small in size in Cebu. Do you think there are no houses in Cebu with garden and say 4 bedroom? Your list is very skeleton, healthcare, taxis,Cinema, International Airport, beaches like Punta Egano or Maribagio on Mactan which you will never find in Duma.
I stayed in IT park for about a month. I've been living in the Business Park for the past year and now out of the bubble:) I do frequent IT Park more frequently now though
Oh is this Jo? Wow potential beauty queen. Why still thinking of dating other girls Chris? Hope not. Please not t. Everyone’s waiting here on line. I will fly right away if you break her heart… hehe
Honestly, I saw way too many unsavory people in these last two videos. I've also seen this area on one of those elderly fellows videos. I can say with confidence that I don't like it at all and wouldn't go there myself. From the thirsty lookin dudes checkin Jho out in the first video, to the random creeps and pickpocket beggar brats, this area just looks like trouble waiting to happen!
@@CarefreeChris Philippines or Dumaguete? Because from what I see of Cebu and many other places I like. It's just this particular place I don't like the vibes at all. I know I don't like Thailand though! I agree that I need to keep up research, I've got one more year here minimum anyway.

Congrats on 10k n rising!!!
Thank you!!
I admire you always allow Jho to chime in. You also actually listen to what she says.
Thank you. Really appreciate it
Make Cebu City your jump off point to beautiful beaches in Central Visayas.
I'm digging live here in CC for the reasons you mentioned
As a man 48 year old man wanting to find a good woman (wife) but I don't party, drink, or wanna sleep around. I also would like to find a woman that hasn't been with foreigners either. Do you think Dumaguete would be a better option? Also, I work out all the time, is there healthy food and a gym there? I would be planning on a 30 day trip, I know thats not enough time to probably meet someone but strange things can happen.
I think Duma is a good option for a guy that likes the country as well as the guy that’s already in a relationship. I don’t think the dating options are that good in Duma.
@CarefreeChris Great, thank you for your response.
Just followed from Paul's side, one of the assorted crazy people. Good Stuff, enjoy your stay.
Lol love it and thank you
Great information
Glad it was helpful! I’ll have more videos like this in the future too
Was that a Big Boat full of Nuns ?! the walking Views are very nice!
I have no idea what that was. Maybe someone can comment in on that :-)
Dumaguete is the best place to enjoy your retirement. Just subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Do you have more blue sky days in Dumaguette?
The weather in Cebu City has been spectacular honestly.
You say you met Joe online but it wasn't a dating app, I'm guessing you'd rather not say the actual forum you were on or club or group, so I'm curious if you could share an example of what type of a group was it? Thank you
Yeah, no problem. We met on a site called date in Asia.
Hello misterChris, sorry sir if I obsess too much about Jakarta and Indonesia sir, sorry if it’s annoying.
Not at all. Think it’s great
Love your channel guys
Thanks so much Tony really appreciate it
Chris great analysis n comparison between Cebu n Duma. What do u think, about 25% cheaper than Cebu? Definitely no dating in Duma n more for the committed couple/marriage
Yeah that’s been my early assessment as well.
I didn’t catch Jo’s channel. Please send link
I’ll have Jo post a link
This is so simplistic , age of the foreign man , that’s very very important . Cebu is where you need to be omg
I have a different view and not a problem
Good luck with your transition.
Thank you
This morning, I had a bacon & egg croissant with turkey sausage links and coffee. 😁
Lol love it Benny.
very relaxed strolling in Dumagetme
Yes. I’m a fan of
I loved your role in Breaking Bad
lol right :)
Go to Davao in the spring so we can hang out. I’ll show you some nice spots! 🤭 If you want to feel Mindanao. 🤭 Rent a car and we take off. The four of us! 😊
Yes. That’s a possibility for sure. Ilioilo is something else I’m looking at
@@CarefreeChrisYou guys would be beside yourselves. 4 locations I would take you to. Do a loop.
@@offthecuffadventureswithjamieI've had my experiences in Davao and really like it there.
As far North as Roty Peaks and as far south as kapatagan mount apo. Beaches and climates. 🤭
Split on the car. Not expensive. 😊💪
I still love cebu. I live in busay.
I’m a fan too. I really love it in Cebu City
Nice work Chris. Saw you on Paul's channel. Keep up the good work bro.👍👍👍
Thanks for coming
If your main source of income is your social security check, Dumaguete is for you.
It’s certainly cheaper that the Business Park in Cebu City
Do you believe prices of everyday things an expat spends money on will drop?
She is happier in Dumaguete, less competition
One of the reasons
Dumaguete are more older expats. Cebu is a little bit for everyone. If you’re a young guy with huge savings and remote job, BGC is the place to be.
I like Cebu City. Not sure where I'll be come March but i do dig it here
What about Bohol?
Bohol is a great option too and see myself living there someday
See boo
Say boo
Soo boo
I still don’t know 😂 but I think it’s my first stop next year 👍
Great beginning:)
When you like Ayala and IT in Cebu then Dramaguete should not be for the long term for you in my honest opinion.
Might be right:)
You definitely may miss those American comforts/amenities in Cebu though.
There’s actually nothing really that I’ve missed so far as amenities go
How are you recording this
I have an insta360 camera and love it. Really unique views
You two make a nice couple
Thank you
❤❤❤❤
:)
Both.
Exactly
Cebu Very Mixed Cultures, A+, Cebu is younger, People
I’m a fan. Really enjoyed my time here in CC
The roosters, dogs, and lack of grab and taxis I would not like about Duma.
Absolutely, the tricycles and the unsafe manner of these death traps makes Dumaguete look like a bumpkin community.
It’s definitely a city that you want transportation
Roosters and dogs everywhere in the Philippines, nothing is confined to Dumaguete...
Not in the cities in a high rise condo,@@PeevyMctweevy
Dumaguete is like a barrio city, slow pace without much fanfare. Cebu is a beach bum metro center.
No beach here in Cebu City
Dumaguete should be on your list if you like roosters, karaoke, and dram from TH-camr’s.
Yeah, I’m pretty excited to check it out
Koreans are way hotter than pinays. You just made my mind up for me. 👍
They’re all certainly beautiful and yes a lot more here in Cebu City if that’s your preference
Chris you have a wonderful woman but you mention single dating a lot. ?
Just in reference to the cities and how each would be if you the viewer is single
Mornin joejo
Morning gamer :-)
I like your American accent sir
Thank you. It's a mix as i've lived all over the US. :)
yes.. Duma is too much country..too provincial. Cebu is just a happy mix of urban.suburban.provincial and nature vibe.
100% agree
Its all about your fate. Leading you to your destined home that you feel comfy
Yes
Oh is this Jo? Wow potential beauty queen. Why still thinking of dating other girls Chris? Hope not. Please not t. Everyone’s waiting here on line. I will fly right away if you break her heart… hehe
She’s really incredible for sure
What? At 8:50 in the video did i hear BABY?😮🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
Lol not hearing that
Both
That actually might be my plan
Wha'ts up Kojax
I just need my lollipops :-)
Who loves ya baby?
friend zoned 😂😂😂
Yes. Things have changed for sure
So , dating , do filipinas find Korean men attractive, probably not . Simple as that . Also in Cebu , tell me I’m wrong .
I’m sure some do but that’s not really a question I’ve ever asked
11:37 🤣🤣
Lol
Honestly, I saw way too many unsavory people in these last two videos. I've also seen this area on one of those elderly fellows videos. I can say with confidence that I don't like it at all and wouldn't go there myself. From the thirsty lookin dudes checkin Jho out in the first video, to the random creeps and pickpocket beggar brats, this area just looks like trouble waiting to happen!
Philippines may not be a good option for you. Maybe Thailand. Hard to say but for sure check either out to make an informed opinion
@@CarefreeChris Philippines or Dumaguete? Because from what I see of Cebu and many other places I like. It's just this particular place I don't like the vibes at all. I know I don't like Thailand though! I agree that I need to keep up research, I've got one more year here minimum anyway.
@@gstreetgames2530 You are clearly a drama-fied queen. Stay where you are as Thailand, the Philippines and Duma don't need a drama-complainer like you bro.
So cute, but so ……?
:)
dumaguete is just "another" city in PH. noting extra or better. great if you wanna mingle with young foreigners ? tc your gf, heh
I’m gonna give it a shot for a little
Cebu is for Single Dating Runabouts!
Dumaguete is for Couple Bonding Relationships!!
Well said
Sorry I learned absolutely nothing from this .
Watch agin I guess lol
Hey Chris... I wrote you on Instagram... When you get the chance to respond.
:)
