Hi Chris, That was a good assessment, in my humble opinion of Iloilo. Another thing I'd like to add which I know a lot of expats seem to not be concerned about is hospitals & healthcare. I know most expats especially men are concerned about finding a Filipina. But you all need to be concerned about hospitals and healthcare . One of the many things my husband and I have listed in our necessities is hospitals. We pray that we would never need it, but in case we do we'd like to be close to one. Just something I want to throw out there. Thanks again Chris. My family and I are looking forward to the Sinulog parade 😁👍 Ingat
Yes agree totally. I do think the medical services are adequate there and modern. I'll be there i'm guess a couple of times in the up coming year so I'll for sure to showcase the healthcare as well as the bike bath too:)
ILOILO has plenty of modern and HITECH hospitals comparable to those in Metro Manila. And not only that, ILOILO has plenty of good quality universities and schools. The latest educational institution to establish in ILOILO is the St. La Salle University -Iloilo. Construction is now in full swing. Usually in cities where there is an ATENEO, there is no LA SALLE. Only Metro Manila has both a La Salle and an Ateneo. But now, outside of Metro Manila, it is only in ILOILO where both La Salle and Ateneo have been inspired to set foot their new institutions. This gives us an idea of how Iloilo is dearly viewed by Filipinos as an ideal city to live in, so livable, so beautiful, so clean , so orderly, so prudently progressive, so cultured with plenty of exciting Museums and Art Galleries, so wellness-conscious with its plentiful parks , plazas, public flower gardens (as in the Garden of Love), riverside Esplanades for strolling, exercizing biking, and jogging activities, great hospitals and universities; definitely now one of the new great cities of the world. ILOILO's latest achievement - the UNESCO CREATIVE CITY OF GASTRONOMY in the Philippines.
@@CarefreeChris Ginno, a retired Filipino-American US Armed Forces man, regularly had his medical checkup in ILOILO CITY at the Medical City-Iloilo Phinma Hospital, which takes care of his TRICARE HEALTH INSURANCE benefits needs. I think for US and foreign expats, ILOILO CITY has adequate health facilities and health insurance links that make it easy for Ginno and one other retired US citizen. The latest Hi-Tech hospital to open in Metro Ilollo is the Asia Pacific Medical Center, a nine-storey fully equipped medical facility in ILOILO CITY. There are 3 topnotch Medical Schools in ILOILO CITY, and the Nursing schools are the oldest and pioneering in the Philippines. The Central Philippine University (CPU) College of Nursing was established in the early 1900s by Americans, and also the Iloilo Mission Hospital, when the Philippines became a US colony. The St. Paul's Hospital and the St. Paul University College of Nursing was also established in the early 1900s a the St. Paul Sisters of Chartre.

Hi Chris, if you need more info about Iloilo and the ret of Panay Island just go the the tourism area and you see that Panay island has a lot to offer and tou will see that Panay island is a total package . Ie, if you want windmils just like in Ilocus just go to Guimaras island; if want little Baguio, just go to Bucari , Leon, much cooler temperature, the sweetest mamgo, strawberry farms, lots of vegestables; if you want cold springs just go to Numancia, Aklan; if you want white sand beaches , Panay islanad does it, Isla Gigantes in Carles, and Concepcion both in Iloilo; ; if you want mountain ranges to climb or hitch hime , central Iloilo and Antiques is the place to be; Seafoods??? panay islanad has it! Panay Islanders are friendly, helpful, accommodating and disciplined.
You’re welcome Chis! Sorry for thee typographical error with some words…. Feel free to go and seek assistance to tourism office of every place in Panay island ( such as Iloilo, Antique, Aklan/Kalibo; Capiz/Roxas & Guimaras Island). All the staff are helpful and happy to serve you. And try to witness Dinagyang festival on the January 26-28. And when you came to Iloilo last January 5, its a bit traffic because of the opening salvo of Dinagyang festival.
Simply put: if you just want a much smaller, quaint, place, without the hustle & bustle of true, big city life - traffic, traffic lights, taxis - then Dumaguete City is your town. It has three shopping departments, some coffee shops, three or four hospitals, all within "reach" - not to mention, tourist sites also, relatively, within reach. Cars are really not that much a necessity; scooters & motorcycles will do. - a Dumaguete resident
Hi Chris, some very good info, thank you. One thing you mentioned was bike paths, that sparked my interest. And another thing that crossed my mind was if ones interested in finding a lady, your thoughts better to find one after you found a place to settle or it doesn't matter? Anyway lots of good info thanks again.
Dumaguete used to have few taxi cabs, but it did not last long. People just prefer pedicab over taxi. Pedicab is a lot cheaper compare to taxi. So the owners went bankrupt.
Dgte is also incredibly tiny and now significantly behind on infrastructure. Downtown dgte fits inside the SM seaside property for comparison and yet has big city like traffic during rush hours.
Stay away from their outlying areas they still have insurgents in those areas and be careful with what you eat and drink, cholera is more common in that part of Visayas.

Iloilo as a province not just the city is conservative and middle class. Iloilo City has more wealthy and filthy rich families than in Cebu. Cebu became what it is, because of it's founding. Other than that prostitutes are all over. The gap between rich and poor in Cebu is way to wide. The people in Iloilo are not show offs and the rich are not hidden. You won't see them drinking coffee in a Starbucks, but sidewalks wearing flip flops in coffee stalls people just pass bye. They don't eat in fancy restaurants often but to places could be deemed dirty by others but behind all that is it's history. They don't like to stand out. Foreigners don't stay in the City. They are in beaches or beach houses around the province and across the channel what used to be part of Iloilo province, Guimaras Island. Cebus GDP is higher than Iloilo. To account all profits from Iloilo 1% it will twice or thrice than Cebu. Take out the sugar cane plantations and ranches in Negros and Guimaras, shipping. Media and trade all over the country, cattle and fruit farms in Mindanao. Iloilo City was not designed or would want to be like Cebu or Manila. Iloilo folks wants progress but wants to keep it as a low profile. So we can enjoy the walk, the food and the smiles of people without standing out. Bigger Cities has lost it's identity, it became money driven.
Completely disagree. Iloilo is definitely a more walkable city than Cebu. ILOILO is the Biking Capital of the Philippines AND is the most walkable city in the Philippines. So, it's falsehood to say Cebu is more walkable. Cebu streets are air-polluted, so how can it be walkable ? ILOILO streets are pollution-free and have sidewalks and wider sidewalks than those in Cebu, and Iloilo's sidewalks are clean and landscaped with trees, flowerbeds and greenery. ILOILO's traffic is manageable, with definitely so much less jams than Cebu and definitely so much better than the ever-choked streets of Manila. ILOILO has plenty of functioning traffic lights almost in every major street corner from the City Proper to the suburbs in the different Districs. And ILOILO's transportation system is better than Manila's and Cebu - plenty of new airconditioned e-buses, clean and new white airconditioned nice smelling taxicabs everywhere, Grab, and the traditional public utility jeepneys. Some local taxicab lines operate like Grab, you just copy the cell phone number on the exterior door of the cab, and then call the cab office at street-side when you need a ride, no registration necessary. It is easy to go mall-hopping from the downtown area to the Diversion Road and the Jaro, Molo and La Paz Districts, and even up to the new malls in Pavia and Oton at Savannah. ILOILO's numerous hospitals are comparable to the hi-tech hospitals of Manila. ILOILO CITY and the METRO ILOILO is the cleanest, most orderly, most beautiful, and and most Livable City in the Philippines.
True. I'm grew up in Iloilo City. I even walk from the pier to Lapaz Market for Batchoy. That's even years before the construction of the river walk. I even walk from my High School Sun Yat Sen to Arevalo, Molo. It's definitely walkable. So I don't know what you disagree. If it's design as a City. Check the history of Iloilo and Bacolod. Bacolod City is not walkable, they are far apart. Bacolod was designed to accomodate the truck loads of sugarcane during the early times. Iloilo is not, the old buildings are clustered. The reason I enjoy walking around Iloilo City. The City is divided by the Iloilo river. Because of the progress, it has to expand farther out. Walking from Plaza Libertad to the even SM Mega Mall? I still can at 53 years of age. But to many, who has not experience trek to the farm lands. Then you don't understand what the guy said about walkable. @@armandosune3839
@@kapiatgatas Completely agree with you. ILOILO is the most walkable city in the Philippines. That's why I wonder why this guy vlogger says that ILOILO is not walkable and Cebu is. It's Cebu that's not walkable. You can't walk from Colon to the Ayala area, and still not be bothered by the traffic and pollution, can you? Can you walk leisurely from SM City at the port to Talamban and not be harassed by traffic and pollution, and shall we say , be on the sidewalk all the way? I guess our blogger says Cebu Is walkable, yes it is, but only when you don't leave the IT park and just go round and around the IT park "bubble" area.
It was just my own experience. Here in the CC I walk so much more. There I took like 5-6 grabs a day just getting around town. Maybe if I was there it would be different

Iloilo hasn't been too Westernized like Manila or Cebu that is why women are still a bit more conservative. The sad news is that Iloilo is slowly becoming more Westernized and in about 5 to 10 years, I can see the people there becoming more like Manila or Cebu.
Iloilo is top producer of ofw/foreign workers even you combined Manila & Cebu. Real talk, no need to Westernized them because they already living in USA, Canada, Europe, and many more.
@@halfevilhalfgood2206 True. No need to westernize Ilonggos. It's better for Ilonggos to uplift their lives and the city first before inviting foreigners unless these foreigners possesses skills and expertise to help iloilo achieve its goal of modernization and higher standard of living not decay. Hi Chris,
That was a good assessment, in my humble opinion of Iloilo.
My family and I are looking forward to the Sinulog parade 😁👍

Yes agree totally. I do think the medical services are adequate there and modern. I'll be there i'm guess a couple of times in the up coming year so I'll for sure to showcase the healthcare as well as the bike bath too:)
Thanks for watching and your comment. Gave me ideas on what to showcase in future Iloilo videos.
Thank you for your honest opinion.
My pleasure!
I was wondering about this condo complex called "Solinea Tower 3". I am thinking about renting there. Any thoughts my friend?

Love it Doc. Thanks for you comment
Duma is ok. I’m more a Cebu City guy and maybe Iloilo after October
@CarefreeChris Oh, of course. I figured that out. I meant to address it to the other readers/subscribers. ... Good luck with your hunt.

And another thing that crossed my mind was if ones interested in finding a lady, your thoughts better to find one after you found a place to settle or it doesn't matter?
Anyway lots of good info thanks again.
For sure after you get here brother. Iloilo looks like a great place to find a wife if that’s a priority
Dumaguete used to have few taxi cabs, but it did not last long. People just prefer pedicab over taxi. Pedicab is a lot cheaper compare to taxi. So the owners went bankrupt.
Oh. Good to know.
Dgte is also incredibly tiny and now significantly behind on infrastructure. Downtown dgte fits inside the SM seaside property for comparison and yet has big city like traffic during rush hours.

Great comparison Chris. Comparison 101.

Malls are better in Iloilo than Cebu? Are you sure about that? Cebu has Imax as well.
They’re both great
Iloilo has higher percentage of mall numbers considering its size
Low cost to live but modern city select iloilo city you can save more money in iloilo province near city❤😊
Nice
I saw a nice drone video of Iloilo on Toms Away channel
I will check it out
Am a little Bias as my wife is from Cebu City, do like all the shopping and activities that are available in and near Cebu. The pollution sucks though. Traffic is as expected though, its bad anywhere in the Philippines unless you are in a more rural area, just avoid rush hour traffic and bring your patience and you will be fine.
Going to check out Tagbilaran City in Bohol and see what amenities it has and then consider buying or building a place in Bohol. Maybe Liloan if its not too far from Cebu City, we will see. Think we'll be going there together in 2026 for 3 months and then do some exploring around Cebu and Bohol.
Yeah Cebu City is great, always fly directly into Mactan International Airport (CEB) right next to Cebu City.
Did not know they had a different dialect there in Iloilo, definitely want to just learn Cebuano...lol
Thanks for the video Chris!....Jim
Thanks for watching Jim
Iloilo speaks Kinaray-a and Hiligaynon, the language is older than Cebuano
Iloilo is walkable simply bcos it's not crowded..Less people like barangay level only😂l compared to CC highy urbanized most progressive city.

Whatever they say, I will always choose Iloilo city. I went to Cebu, Bacolod, Manila, Duma and some other cities already but when it comes to being relax with full access to everything, I might say that Iloilo is top tier.
They have been westernized long ago since the Spanish era , but they have managed to hold in to their rich culture because they are intelligent and cherish their rich history. Ilollo has plenty of OFWs , nurses, doctors, seafarers, ship captains and engineers who have worked and traveled worldwide, but Ilonggos are wise and prudent enough to retain their beautiful culture, that is why ILOILO CITY is still very cultured old-world elegant and turn-of-the-century classic European in appeal. It's better for Ilonggos to uplift their lives and the city first before inviting foreigners unless these foreigners possesses skills and expertise to help iloilo achieve its goal of modernization and higher standard of living not decay. Cebu is different. It sorely needs foreigners to sustain its economy. The pandemic proved that Cebu can't sustain feeding itself if all economic activities stopped or even significantly reduced. It beg to its knees to open up its market sooner not later.
