Here I am 11 years after this video was made as a 17 year old looking to buy my first car lol I actually really like this Forester! Found one for a decent price online and I might look into it some more.
Hey there, so my parents bought a 2010 brand new. It's a 2.5 premium, it has been very reliable but they are known to have head gasket and oil burning issues. If you live in California it could be a partial zero emissions vehicle and have an extended warranty. My parents has been very reliable except for a wheel bearing, and the road noise is very substantial, so I recommend getting Quality Tires, also putting some insulation in the doors and the spare tire area. Good luck
Really? Really? Are you guys kidding me. Did you really miss it? Full framed doors appear to be new. Before this all I can find on the forester is no frame around the windows. Subaru was well known for frame-less windows on their vehicles.
Just got my 2011 Limited in 5 speed manual. It was the only manual on the lot! I LOVE it. Roomy, quiet, and just solidly built. If you have not driven one, I highly recommend it. Keep in mind, you're not getting this car to win drag races or mud bogs. You are getting it for a great daily driver that provides some light off road capability to take you camping or things like that. It has some really nice features, and from an ergonomic standpoint, everything is positioned really well.
@paraglenner You need diesel in Europe because of very high gas prices there... We dont need smoky diesel here in US because gas is as cheap as vitamin water ;-)
I owned a 2001 Forester (5speed stick) and loved it for handling, economy, everything. Wife insisted on an auto, so when I traded I got a 2010 w/auto. Not nearly as much fun to drive, Bigger, heavier, maybe safer, but the old Forester had more going for it.
Dynamic Hypnotic They are better than Volvo’s bro I’m telling you my parents got my girl cousin a Volvo XC90 and it’s so bad compared to the Subaru Forester they bought to my boy cousin
I never cared for Subaru until I saw this car....if I had to choose a Subaru, the brand new turbo Forrester would be the one!!! I know Subaru has a great reliability and safety rep, but I was never really attracted to them, except for the Impreza sedan.
What happened to the typical hyper-critical, we-know-what's-best-for-you Consumer Reports review? Had to double check to see if I was actually on a Consumer Reports video. Nice person doing a good review.
Hey blurguide - that's wierd that you drove a rattly one - must have been a pre-production - I suggest you drive one now, I think you will be . As for the 4EAT on the 2.5XT (turbo), I hear ya and agree it is disappointing - a 5 or 6 speed auto with paddles or a 6 speed manual would be my choice for both fun and even better fuel economy. Still, even CR was impressed with both after their testing.
I bought a 2010 Forester 2.5x premium last year and the vehicle has been awfull. I am disatisfied with it entirely. Main gripe is the position of the brake pedal, its so far left it makes me wonder if the engineers thought people have a leg in the middle of their body. Its a idiotic design and makes it feel dangerous cus its hard to stop its so tiring. The postion of the seatbelt at the lap is too high and is irritating. Engine has pinged since new and the interior rattles like a earthquake.
A dealership near me if selling a 2009 2.5x with 73k miles for around $8,477. Is this a good deal in 2019? I realize it's 10 years old, but the I believe the longevity on these vehicles is pretty nice!
the only way i would get one would be a 2009 and up, I'm sure the older ones are very reliable as Subaru is a great brand, but I don't like the wagon look...this new Forester looks amazing and i would definitely consider a loaded turbo model in either black or that metallic tan color (don't know the appropriate color in the river's manual LOL) as seen in the video.
only sometimes you notice the 4 speed at 100kms it still runs low reves. It's not like running a honda 1.5 in a 4 speed, so it's not all a problem it's cracked up to be. It doesn't seem to get confused with gearing either.
I was worried about the archaic 4, but after a test drive it's no problem. It seemed to be in the right gear most of the time, and the manual shift mode is smoother, faster, and more obedient than an Acura RDX (2009MY) I test drove earlier, which either refused gear change commands, shifted rough after a delay, or upshifted without command despite adequate revs. Most cars sold in the US run most efficiently at 55mph anyways, and the 2009 Acura I tested revved slightly higher than the Forester at highway speeds. This Forester is better than the new model with that god awful CVT, though it does have an optional six speed manual.
@15815daniel outback is longer and heavier which means slower and more fuel, the forester is taller and lighter. and ir eckon i t looks better. but outback is still good
Suzuki GrandVitara or this Subaru Forester? Suzuki currently have great offer here in Canada, 74 month finance 0.00% and 40cent for each liter of gas used in the first year....100k power train warranty or 7 years.....but it feels a bit jumpy due to off-road suspension....
They're great on paper, but I drove one when it first came out. I was shocked to find out how many rattles there were right off the showroom floor, and to find out the turbo can only be had with an antiquated, unresponsive 4-speed automatic slushbox. The old XT was quite a performer, but the new one is merely adequate.
Want a good laugh. Log into consumerreports.org and check out the current ratings for the 2009 - 2011 Forester. Reliability is rated at 2 out of 5. There are currently 12 recalls on this vehicle. While predicting the future is damn near impossible I'd say big swing and a miss on this one.
@15815daniel Neither. Unless you live in Alaska And then I would say get a AWD RAV4. The quality and reliability is just not there like it is in a Toyota.
I wish Subuaru would put a 6-speed auto or CVT with the Forester. It seems to be the only complaint about it, it only has a 4-speed auto; CVT is available with the Outback.
Overall rating of the forester on a 1 to 10 scale according to me as a owner of one is a 5. The vehilce is a pile of junk for the money it costs and also it being considered a semi premium Japanese brand, what a joke. I will not buy a Subaru ever again!
I owned a 2010 Subaru outback 2.0L Diesel 72000 miles for 4 days. The crankshaft pully on the timing belt was wobbling whilst on idle. Took it to mechanic who knew exactly what the issue was. Attatched to the pulley is the crankshaft..crankshaft pully. The crankshaft on most subaru models is weak....it buckles or bends resulting in stress and eventually the crankshaft will snap in half thus leaving you with no engine. I was lucky.... I bought the car, noticed the fault and under british law i could return the car to the trader i bought it off and get a refund. After researching on the web ive read stories of new models having the same issue. Ill never ever buy a subaru in my life. Do your research about the Crankshaft pulley problems...
24 mpg wow what rubbish economy. Thank goodness for the diesel engines here in europe. Thinking of getting one at the end of the year after having alook at some others, Better cabin space than most of the others and a great engine so smooth
Hi, I'm about to buy a used suv. Hesitate between 2010 hyundai santa fe and forster. I like more the forster but worried about the head gasket problem. I heard about this known issue with this vehicle. Could you please give me some advice?
my mom just bought a 2010 model to replace her 2005 volvo xc90. the volvo may only have a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder but it still isnt gutless like the subaru. also, the subaru rides kinda like a moon lander. VERY bouncy.
Thank you for the review. I am about to buy a used 2010 Subaru 2xt, and you convinced me.
Got a 2010. Just had a baby and needed a family car(wife didn't want a van). we love it and enjoy it.

i am selling my 2010 subaru in Oklahoma. I love the car, just can't afford it any longer.
I've heard the word "Confidence" a lot of times in this video. So the motto stays true. Subaru: Confidence In Motion! :)

power play.
I think this the first time this channel doesn't trash a car.
Too bad it looks so dull now, much like a lot of SUVs. Subaru's are either dull or ugly in the latest generation.
Bad review!! A/C breaks quickly! Do a real review !! Start with the head gaskets leaks
why don't these guys tell the price of the vehicle, atleast starting price and price of the tested vehicle would help a lot.
like the look of them, but they're just so basic and plastic looking on the interior
Dynamic Hypnotic They are better than Volvo’s bro I’m telling you my parents got my girl cousin a Volvo XC90 and it’s so bad compared to the Subaru Forester they bought to my boy cousin

What did Subaru do about the blown head gaskets and oil consumption?
Different car IMO
The old Forester is a station wagon the new one is SUV
yea i feel like my 09 forester is bigger than the current gen forester. weird.
Always wondered what Pete Sampras did after tennis!

Subaru is AMAZING!!!

@15815daniel outback is longer and heavier which means slower and more fuel, the forester is taller and lighter. and ir eckon i t looks better. but outback is still good
hi. I was youtubing and found this video.
I would like to know if I can get those back seats for my regular subaru installed.. that would be awesome

@TheCottonTop All reviews I've seen comparing the 2 say the Subaru is the better car in every way.
@15815daniel both great cars, outback is more luxurious
at least the 4speed isn't a cvt. lol
Just bought my mom an 11 she loves it
i have an 09 as my daily and i like it, just really bad fuel economy.
It's the BEST choice in the Compact SUV category, imho.
yea mine feels like it has so much more room than my friends 2016 wrangler.
@15815daniel forrester

this subaru car forester is a good car,,,
the front silver grille is too closed as a blind and not enough cooler air to the radiator / motor

These are such junk, feel like they are made out of cardboard, noisy inside , bouncy ride , sea of plastic interior.
what the hell is up with this keyboard
