    Thanks so much for doing this video. Mine developed this fault recently, so this was great to find.
    Update: all done. For anyone else that might come down the same path, the 4204 has a slightly different assembly technique, but it's relatively easy to find your way. The gotcha is that there are two screws hidden under the emi shields for channels 1 and 4, so you need to remove those two shields to access the screws. The flex cable for the keyboard is released at the keyboard end, not at the mainboard, but there's plenty of slack to lift the mainboard clear and then release the flex.

    Thank you so much. All knobs of my new DSO5072 were not working, because one was faulty. This is what I understood after watching your vidéo. I replaced the faulty encoder for 1.5€ and everything goes right now, thanks to you.

    When searching for what could be the problem with my Hantek scope, I came across your video. I found the shorted encoder and took it out of circuit, sure enough everything was working fine. I ordered a new encoder and collected it today. It is now soldered back on the board and the scope works as new again. thanks for your video and well done on the reverse engineering.

    Thank you for the info in this video!! I used my DSO5102P only a couple of times then packed it up in the original packaging for about 2 years. Come to find out when I pulled it out again to use a couple weeks ago the knobs wouldn't work! When I tested the encoders on mine on the continuity setting of the DMM there were none shorted(none beeped). BUT there WAS one where one of the legs had very low resistance to ground(about 33ohms). I bought a whole set of encoders from Mouser in case of future failure & replaced the bad encoder which brought the scope back to life. It was NOT easy to desolder the old encoder & almost lost the 2 miniscule diodes from the encoder when they fell off the board! So be careful to test the encoders on the lowest resistance setting of your DMM, just in case the resistance isn't low enough to register a beep in the continuity setting & be very careful not to destroy the board while desoldering the bad parts....I think their use of lead-free solder in manufacturing makes desoldering a real chore!

    Thanks a ton for this video. I had hardly used this scope and your diagnosis was spot on. I ended up ordering a full set of Bourn encoders since they were so cheap. While I am waiting for the new encoders, I simply cut off the mounting tabs (which were connected to ground) and it is back working again. I will be replacing the bad encoder when I receive the replacements.

    Thank you very much. I have a Voltcraft DSO-1062D, which looks exactly like yours so is probably a re-brand. I had the same issue. Thanks to your video, I managed to fix it. Unlike in your case, I had no shorts to ground. But after desoldering of one of the encoders, the device started to work properly. So I knew it was the reason. I managed to disassemble and clean it with IPA. After putting it back together, the oscilloscope is now fully operational.

    Thank you very much! You saved my day! I had the same encoder problem with Hantek 4254C. The PCB seems to be very similar, just with more encoder channels.

    • @d42kn355
      @d42kn355 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which Encoders did you use for the larger Voltage/Division pots?
      My 4254C encoders seem to have stopped working on all 4 channels!

    • @Julian_Kulenkampff
      @Julian_Kulenkampff ปีที่แล้ว

      @@d42kn355 I used PEC12R-4020F-S0 from Digikey. They have 24 ticks per revolution (instead of 12), but they work perfectly fine for me.

    • @Julian_Kulenkampff
      @Julian_Kulenkampff ปีที่แล้ว

      I think all encoders are the same size. The voltage knobs just have bigger wheels on them.

    • @d42kn355
      @d42kn355 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Julian_Kulenkampff I meant which Encoder? - The video shows the Volts/Div as PEC12R-4120F-N0012, but that one doesnt push in for the "fine tune" - its footprint also seems to differ (doesnt have the 2 pins on the backside for the switch)
      Was the Part No you replaced yours with PEC12R-4120F-S0012 instead? (Has the momentary switch)
      I asked you because I also have a 4254C rather than the one showed here in the video ^_^

    • @Julian_Kulenkampff
      @Julian_Kulenkampff ปีที่แล้ว

      @@d42kn355 Sorry, the part number of the switch that worked for me was PEC12R-4020F-S0024 (a copy paste mistake, last digits are missing in the post above). It has the push button too. I do not remember which knob of my scope was broken. Best luck with the repair of your scope.

    Just excellent! Same scope same problems. I did some deoxit to the encoders for the third time but i am sure that i will need to replace them. The fan is also warn out... 60x60x10mm 12V 0.1A fan.
    Writing the encoders part numbers here:
    SEC/DIV PEC12R-4120F-S0012
    VOLTS/DIV PEC12R-4120F-N0012
    All other PEC12R-4020F-S0012
    Thanks! You are just great!

    I bought one of these scopes for very cheap price 50 pounds. Had the same problem, cleaned out all the Encoders the scope is working 100% good . while I had to open i replaced all the crappy electrolytes with decent brand. at the same time done the firmware modification for 200 MHz. excellent oscilloscope for the price that I paid and for its functionality.

    Thanks for sharing this video. I identified the faulty control on my scope easily with a DMM. All the controls had >10M resistance to GND except for one which was 83R on each outer contact. Extracted it and all other controls started working. New control on order.
    Is it just that these Bourne controls are unreliable or is it the way Hantek are using them. I have had this scope for 3 yrs and only used it a few times. It worked ok when I used it at the weekend. Turned it on Monday morning and controls not working. Bizarre!
    Update: I have now replaced the faulty control (CH2 Position) and all is ok. But for how long???????

    This worked for me too. Checked all resistances at a and b on every knob in relation to ground, one knob had like 34 ohms only. I desoldered it and all the other knobs started working. Will buy another knob. BTW it was the CH2 VOLTS/DIV knob that was failing. But for how long will it work? I mean this scope worked fine for a year with low usage, why did it suddenly break? Well at least I can fix it again in the case of rotary encoders failure again. Thank you for the video, youre a scope saver

    I've just found an 80 ohm leakage to earth on the Vo encoder. I removed it with a view to finding a replacement but found once removed the leakage had gone so decided to refit for the time being and now the knobs all work. One thing occurred to me later, why not just dremel the encoders frame so as to isolate it from the pcb and then find another means for mechanical support. The leakage would still be there but no longer leaking to ground. I'll try this if the leakage returns or if another encoder fails.

    I have the same problem. Contacting Hantek was useless, they just don't understand and kept asking the same questions over and over again and I gave them the same answers over and over again. It appears that the Timebase encoder may be faulty as pressing this sometimes clears the problem for a while. I have same types in stock as I use them in my designs so will swap it over.

    I've got the DSO5102P scope and have similar problem in that some of the controls aren't working (V0 knob and some of the buttons) but in my case it appears some of the vias are faulty. I've traced my board to help figure it out. Here's the file (made in GIMP) in case it helps someone else: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZuTgw4A8zySkdBicqZcQvqfmxBgRVNAK?usp=sharing
