  • Fonio is a traditional West African grain that some believe could be the "new quinoa"; it could even replace wheat because of its drought-resistant and gluten-free qualities. Fonio can grow in poor soil, and no pesticides are needed for its cultivation. In Senegal, where it's part of local customs and traditions, fonio is used in breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes.

    Funny how everything Dr. Sebi was telling us in the 80s and shunned is today widely accepted. RIP to the Imenhotep of my lifetime Dr. Sebi.

      That's how it is with everything. Whether it be knowledge, and invention or a popular fad. The creator was laughed or seen as bizzare. Now all of that knowledge died with him it's ashame that he didn't write a book.

      You see if you focus on the positive you see positive if a food is gluten free ..I think that alone is more than enough nutrition trust me because the havoc gluten does to the body in unbelievable so me right there is a nutritional value it’s a natural grain that has not gone through hybridisation that’s why people have gluten intolerances ..furthermore it’s rich is iron and high in fibre it gives you energy it’s amazing what this thing does

  • @tenkolew

      shonuffLA fyi- "Fonio is one of the most nutritious of all grains. It is rich in methionine and cystine, amino acids vital to human health and deficient in today's major cereals: wheat, rice, maize, sorghum, barley, and rye." www.splendidtable.org/recipes/sesame-fonio

    • @johnsmith-ch7fg
      @johnsmith-ch7fg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is modest in protein (admittedly slightly higher in a couple of amino acids) and generally quite low in fibre and contains various vitamins and minerals you will find in other grains. Perfectly good food but forget the super food advertising.

    "The most nutritious grain you have never heard of" is carefully worded to disguise the fact it's nutritional values aren't that spectacular and all the 'super food' stuff is really just marketing . That isn't to say there isn't good reasons for Africa to embrace it's older native foods (esp. with water concerns etc) and I personally like it quite a lot but I find such claims a bit silly
