One easy way to deal with the bloat of characters: Kill them off. Seriously. One of the most iconic characteristics of Fire Emblem is the permadeath. Have the battles have consequences and make the audience fear every upcoming battle, wondering if their favorite character will live to see the end of the episode. They can also have the cast rotate episodes focus on the main cast + whatever units are important in that episode. That said, even if they don't pick this route, I don't think it might be a big problem if handled correctly . After all in most FE games there's really only a handful of characters with (infuriating) plot armor that are important to the story and will only retreat if defeated. Make the story focus on them and suddenly your cast becomes more manageable. This could also help pace the story as "filler" chapters that don't help move the plot along can be adapted out without needing to have any unimportant character that appear in them. Or they can pick the safe (but for some reason inexplicably invisible to the suits) route of making it an original story tailored for the medium.
I have to agree. Shows like Attack on Titan,Knights of Sidonia, and Fate/Zero have shown tossing many characters into the meat grinder can maintain the pace and keep things going instead of stagnating just to show some cameos or fan service. Sadly unless a high or top tier director does this it's all going to be just another anime adaption to promote the franchise.
raak1010 But they would have to be killed of in a good and believable way. Because taking all of, for example, Awakenings or PoR's char.'s and killing them off one after another would be lame. So the best way would be to take the most important characters of the adapted games cast (or - what would be even better - an original, new cast) and make the viewers love them. After that, some of them could be killed for the sense of drama and the fact, that it's Fire Emblem.
Blue Arrow Definitely. Plot important characters take priority. If the writers still fill confident adding more characters after the indispensable ones, give priority to those that bring interesting B plots. Taking PoR as an example, Nephenee, as much as it pains me, is not as interesting story wise as Jill and Lethe and should take second seat to thenm. They can cut characters here and there. Instead of both Mordecai and Lethe traveling with Ike, only Lethe. Or hell, cut both of them and substitute them with Ranulf. Adaptations must adapt something. Is a balancing act, but it's possible if they go the adaptation route
Heck, My Hero Academia has introduced well over 30 characters in its first two seasons, and I'm pretty sure any of us who've watched it can easily identify the personalities and traits of each. And they've managed to give them all enough screen time and make their conversations mesh very well. Anime with tons of characters can definitely work.
Honestly, I think an original FE story would be better than trying to adapt the games. But if I had to choose which FEs would be the best, Path of Radiance, Genealogy, and perhaps Awakening (with some touch-ups to the story). Echoes would also work since it has a much smaller cast.
I agree with this, though if we get a GotHW anime before we get some kind of official localization...I'll still watch it actually, that game needs an Eshop release or something
Question: How would those be handled? Would you be willing to risk having massive plots like FE4 be reduced to a couple 3-hour movies at best? Personally, I think that a series should be the way FE is adapted, with each season being a story arc. When they finish the story of one game, add a subtitle to differentiate which story's being told.
Or just focus on a few characters, might even be side characters. Some Fire Emblem characters have an interesting side story that could be an anime on it's own. Well regardless, since the Brave Lucina easter egg happend, I think they're already working on an anime. We can only hope that it's good, we will just have to wait and see.
I could see an original FE Heroes story, FE Heroes is a really story light game but if you expanded on it in an adaption I could see a lot of potential, like a battle royal between the Askr Kingdom and the Emblian Empire, each summoning heroes on each side to do battle against each other, kind of like Fate.
Same. Genealogy I would say for one, because it has the tension of people dying (barbecue time) that most other FEs don't. And, it would alleviate the need to go a more death game-ish route where characters could die at any point in time, like what could happen in any chapter if you're a bad player. Path of Radiance would also work cause it just seems to be the most anime-friendly plot. The politics are simple enough to get people intrigued, the growth of Ike from a dude to the most influential force on the continent is entertaining, and the more constant threat of the Black Knight would make an anime much more gripping than most other FEs, I think.
I think it's pretty obvious what should be the proper course for action for a Fire Emblem anime: sidestories, not a direct adaptation from one of the existing games but untold stories or backstories, Anri, the 12 Crusaders, the Scouring, all of them could make for great stories in an anime IMO, the issues of the cast size will also no longer be issues because at most they talk about 12-ish legendary heroes, way more manageable that 50.
Permadeath in Fire Emblem would have to be in an anime version of it. I think watching characters bond on the battlefield, make relationships, make sacrifices, and experience loss would not only add a tension for the audience but add give whatever protagonist a sense of dread as they march forward. One of the major themes of Fire Emblem conveyed through gameplay is the price of war. As long as the anime keeps the themes of war, friendship, and loss I think it'd be great.
i think that, considering the first anime they made for fe1, they had to cut out a lot of the experience/plot/characters. there would be too much lost if they made anything short again, a couple episodes... and as you said, making it longer feels like it will still not be enough. great video on your thoughts about this!
To be fair, that anime was supposed to have been based on Mystery of the Emblem, so they just went over the first three parts of Book 1, and Book 1 cut out a lot of characters, plot points, etc. anyway.
Bullwine85 my bad, i should have said fe1/3. having played both i understand what you mean. fe3 cut out content to fit more content then the anime cut even more.
Wiru didn't they change pretty much everything about the story of the game to make it work? I watched the show and enjoyed it immensely, but I don't play castlevania so I wouldn't know
Luna's Peridot im not sure because I havent played the games either. It seemed kind of weird that he teamed up with a vampire at the end though, when I thought his job was to kill them
Wiru Ever heard of the phrase "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"? Alucard may be Dracula's son but he was against human genocide, he even tried to stop him. So why waste time trying to kill each other when they both have the same target (...yes I know they tried to kill each other anyway but Alucard was testing Trevor and Trevor thought Alucard WAS Dracula)?
This could be especially true for me if more details are revealed in whatever story is told. I'd say the a good story to try and adapt would be any that Intelligent Systems/Nintendo want to remaster/modernize. .......Or they can just go Fates/Awakening (I'm not in support of the latter, though)
Back at it again with the interesting topics I see. Many people have already mentioned half of what I think, but I can certainly agree. I think, as much as I'd like to see certain games get a big adaptation, a unique, anime only storyline and characters, would be a better idea. It makes it more manageable because it's tailored to the medium, and it doesn't piss off the fanboys or haters of which ever game is chosen. A longer run time is definitely needed. 50 episodes minimum. There needs to be enough times to show battle, discuss tactics, and finally, have moments between characters to flesh out. It'd be tricky, but possible. And if permadeath was included, it'd help with cast bloat. As sad as it'd be, it'd also lend a drama and tension to it. So I'd support such a decision. My biggest concern is tone. Shadow Dragon style entries have a fairly mid ground tone, while Genealogy would have something closer to a seinen tone (I think that's the right term), while Awakening and Fates, as much as I love them, have a lighter, mixed tone with some slice of life bits. I can easily see the anime itself being a bit more.... common in terms of anime tone and presentation. Idk, I want it, but I'm also concerned about it.
If Fire Emblem Fates DOES become an anime, here are some additional Tropes for (M!) Corrin. 1) His half-dragon heritage gives him a "Cute Little Fang" 2) His habit of going barefoot is more "Lampshaded" and is often made fun of 3) His love for both his families is so strong, that he nearly commits suicide to stop their war for him.
Genelogy of the Holy War would make the best adaption if they went all out, I could see it work as a miriad of movies by Ufotable really easyily, taking advantage of the darkest story in FE history and really holding nothing back, we'll probably just get an Awakening adaption though, which I honestly think is one of the worse adaptions you could do, it woudn't have much that the original didn't already have with fully 3D cuscenes and voice, I feel it would be a waste of an opportunity.
Jake Aryland Genealogy of the holy war would make such an interesting anime adaptation although I think Thraicia 776 would be much better (either way both games are connected)
If they made an adaptation out of the classics and older FE games..modern Awakening and Fates fans would go apeshit and complain how the "old" characters don't have booby fanservice action..freaking weebs....reeeeeeee!!
The only way I could see this working would be if they focused on one specific section of a specific game. For example, Lyn's story in FE7, the first third of Awakening (ending with Gangrel's defeat), or the Dawn Brigade's rebellion against Begnion in Radiant Dawn. This would drastically reduce how many characters would need to be included/developed, and the shorter story would give the adaptation more room to explore the character to character relationships that the series is known for. I would hate both scenarios where the story gets rushed to fit both the beginning and the end into the run time or where the series ends without a conclusion. Each of the sections I mentioned above have conclusions to the initial conflict that would make for a satisfying conclusion even without going into the games overarching plot.
Yona is a fire emblem anime. It's about an heir to the throne who is cast out due to her father being overthrown, she goes to a wise man who tells her to collect some kind of mystical things (the dragons), she gathers comrades along the way, and there are dragons in it. It's a fire emblem anime. Season 2 please.
An idea came to mind. What if the Fire Emblem Anime was done like Pokemon Generations? Short episodes which show a set of characters then move onto a new set of characters and plot. This way, they could keep budget in perspective and show off a large roster of characters over time.
You don't see many people tackle this subject as in depth as you did here. Great work taking into account all the other aspects aside from just the story. AlsoMorePeopleNeedToWatchYona
About the Nifl,Embla and Muspell kingdoms? Maybe it could work..as long as they do not go full weeb on the anime..and lessen the fanservice..too much fanservice will ruin the plot..if there is _plot_ in the first place..I'm looking at you Loki and Guntthra..
The Shipping pairs in Awakening were highly customizable to the player's preference. By that logic, almost 90% of Awakening's players will be disappointed with the pairs that the anime studio dictates as "canon". There is no way to win.
I think how my hero academia handles its characters is a good structure for how a fire emblem anime should. You got a pretty decently sized cast of characters, with class 1-a alone having 20 students, and while we really mostly just focus on a few of them, they’re all uniquely designed and usually get a couple moments here and there. That’s about how I think fire emblem should handle its large cast, though they’ll still likely need to be cuts. It would also probably be a good idea to kill some of them, because you know, permadeath.
Here's some ideas for what a FE anime's story could be:The journey of Anri, Martha's ancestor and the one who originally defeated Medeus the Shadow Dragon. The story of the First Exalt, the founder of Ylisse and the guy who stopped Grima the first time.If they want to go really mature and dark, they could make it set between 7 and 6 to show how Zephiel became the nilhilistic man he was.
This is great and all, but I think you're forgetting the most important step... Step 3: REMOVE PAN-oh wait wrong game. We actually need to make sure Marth has pants this time though
I really loved the way you did this video. It shows how much of a true fan you are because you took the time to think about the game as an adaptation. I could tell just how much you like the games. You were clear, thorough, and had lots of strong points, both for and against it. It opened my eyes for sure.
You did an amazing job with this video. You brought up all the problems I could think of (even how well Yona of the Dawn did by fixing some of the problems Fire Emblem has) and more. Not to mention how well structured all of the points were and how you never lost focus on the topic at hand. Well done.
Honestly i would love Pokemon Generations-esque Shorts that focus on wacky character interactions or re-imagine specific battles. Nintendo seems to have a specific love for this format, so it could be possible.
"50 episodes" That... That really isn't that much for anime standards, some have 500-800 and are STILL going. Besides, 50 episodes worked for Soul Eater, why can't this?
Micahl Taylor "Only popular stuff". No. Just no. The longest Anime are usually based off of long source material, like One Piece, and by extent, a lot of Fire Emblem. FE is has so much content that making a long running anime series would be extremely easy.
Wyvern See, here's the thing: Where is the animation studio gonna get the funding? Money is the main reason that it's mainly the popular anime/manga that have extensive lifetimes. Granted, back when One Piece began, animation was in something of a renaissance, so it was easy to get the funding. But nowadays, people are cheap, and it's easier to animate short-lived stories rather than long epics. Modern anime are lucky to get 2 seasons, with a total of 30 episodes.
Wyvern no just no the way things are set up this won’t work.It would like jump from watch gen 1 Pokemon anime to watch Pokemon generations it wouldn’t work well. An example is echoes.Look at the story it way to too small to even be a 12 episode run.The story in echoes is more fitted to be a movie rather then episodes. Awakening will probably only have 12 to 24 episode being how they pace them self. They could add a full third party that could be out eye and ear for audiences which could work. This work especially with fates because that character could persuade corrin to go down the path or birthright only for corrin to not like. This happens again with conquest(let have character a way to go back and fix certain mistake not all but very important ones). And for time our character persuaded corrin to accept both of his family. This would basically fix most of fates story as well as it a anime they could fix the plot thus making the story better.
Could it not be like how persona does it? Choose a game. Follow its basic story. Throughout it, introduce the general gist of supports between minor characters with short but many clips. Have better development between major characters. Focus on them. If someone wants to see more of a character, they read the supports from that game. Reference the weapon triangle. Show how the support benefits impact the final battle. It wouldn't be a masterpiece but it should work.
I'm so glad you made this video! Initially it sounds good but over all I say no to a fire emblem anime. Just think about what happened to Warriors, People will say things like, "Why isn't this character more in the spotlight? Why does that character have to die? How dare you not include these characters!" ...and the like. Fire emblem is a game about choices and not everyone likes the same outcomes. It's hard to make an adaptation of something that involves so much decision making and no real set canon in some circumstances and make it pleasing to everyone.
Warriors is different from an anime, for one thing even in the games most of the side characters don't have any impact on the story. Sacred Stone and the Tellius games are the only ones that come to mind that where the side characters really matter
I've been having similar worries for the longest time honestly, it's really hard for it to be something memorable without having a long runtime that would let it give each character enough time to shine at least a little bit.
Yes it will work. I like how the last f zero game was made after the 51 episode of f-zero 😢😢😢 I don't know if Captain Falcon dies is Cannon or not because last game was exclusive in Japan and it take after the anime (f zero climate)
F Zero is a fun, cute anime, but is stupid and doesn't make any sense. Why would the bandies organize a tournament to raise money, investing an even greater amount of money where they just happily give the money to the good guys? Also the police running in the circuit instead of trying to -I don't know, trying to arrest the terrorist is very forced. F-Zero isn't a bad anime to watch with the brain off, but isn't the prime example of a smart anime. Now, is a pretty close adaptation of two GBA games, but still, those games have the same problem.
rifasclub I stopped asking questions long ago and ikr plot hole. I still enjoy tho because I really got into f zero after the anime. Now Ik all the characters just by looking at them at the game 👍
Dunno if anyone has said this already, but the first arc of berserk seemed kind of fire emblem esque. It had a good amount of what you wanted from a fire emblem adaptation. Griffith often made brilliant strategies that would overwhelm foes with much larger forces, and Guts would often have to make last second decisions in order to ensure victory. The show had a large cast, and while not all of them were entirely fleshed out, the minor characters in the band of the hawk often got a lot of screen time
I'd say something like what they did with Pokemon Generations last year could work - showing small 3-5 minute snippets of in-game story moments/cutscenes throughout the series that are fully animated and remastered sounds much more manageable to me.
So for anyone interested, there was a manga made to advertise Fire Emblem 6 that focuses on three characters who are affecting events of the game as it goes on. It goes all the way to the end of the game. Their weapons also all appear in FE6
Maybe they could do something similar to Pokemon generations. Just make a like 10-20 minute episode dedicated to each of the games and it just goes bit by bit Maybe on key parts or scenes of the stories which go into more depth then what we see in the games That’s my opinion honestly
I think a side story to one of the games would probably be the most viable option for an anime. They could add cameos or references to the war without having to actually have the story revolve around it. Surely the places we see in the games arent the only ones affected by the war?
I dont think anyone wanting an anime wants the same feeling from the game but a insight to the chracters living thier life fighting and going about thier lives
instead of Anime Adaptation they can do OVA that focus on some characters and maybe Original Story like Tales of Vesperia The First Strike and in this case It's maybe "Xander and his former retainer", "Lucina journey to the past" or "7th Platoon Special Mission"
I think that just a show in the fire emblem universe would be great. The world of fire emblem is so packed with interesting lore and potential for stories, that it doesn't even need to be an adaptation of one of the games. Obviously when people talk about a fire emblem anime they're talking about their favourite titles being animated, but an original work using the fire emblem world and maybe some characters would probably work much better. Video games tell very different stories than shows and movies, which is why video game movies rarely work if at all, but fire emblem has the advantage of a rich and detailed world where any stories are possible, not just the ones that are designed to fit the games.
As much as I would prefer an older game to be adapted into an anime, FE: 3 Houses could be adapted well. After the time skip there are multiple routes all with a small enough cast to focus on well as you tell the story of the chosen route. And if the anime is popular enough they can make multiple seasons by showing a different route each season.
I think the best approach would to follow Lucina in the ruined future of Awakening. That way you could have one of the most recognizable Characters as the lead while still exploring a new story. We could also take this opportunity to flesh out all the future children since outside of Lucina (and Owain in Warriors) they where never part of the main story. This way you could have pre-existing Characters while also exploring a new setting and it would feel natural. Plus you could still include Characters we know didn't die in the Ruined Future like Nowi. I could go more in detail but I do think that's the best approach.
I think it really depends of which game. SoV, Awakening and Fates would work, the supports are very well translated to the manga, they just happen between many characters at the same time, so that really shouldn't be an issue. An awakening anime also, would most likely occur in a post apocalyptic setting where Grima wins, and is up to the second gen to fix everything (why else would that version of Lucina tease the anime in heroes?). The GBA games doesn't have a story as developed as the newer ones, and the supports are uninteresting, which could be a blessing in disguise. The adaptation of Castlevania was great because it had a lot of room to improve. it was an 80's game without much context in the story, so they HAD to create some story form the scratch with just source material and backstory added in later released games. Outside of giving Trevor, Simon's personality it was as faithful as it can be. Tharacia, Genealogy and Shadow Dragon. Are trickier to adapt. They are all back story with rich mythologies, but the games itselves are generic in an already generic franchise, outside of middle game twits, they aren't very good narrative-wise. PoR/RD could work, they have shitton of characters, but 2/3 of them could be just there as background character and no one would care. Seriously? Who cares about Makalov? Not even the game, many characters are just there for gameplay purpose. Finally, I think many games would just be better with the Game of Thrones treatment, but THAT will never happen.
I think it would be nice to have character appear as brief chameos in places before expanding while having characters split up into units Kane and Able Marth and Jagen that might get replaced with Caeda Lena and Julian Having more squads and things form kind of like how in the last chapter you split into 3 groups and assault the castle from multiple angles.. As well as some deaths to some characters that will affect the story much like how Tobins death impacts Gray.
Well, if you want an idea of what an anime adaptation could be like, you can look at the various fire emblem manga that have been produced. Just look at those and think of what an anime adaptation would be like just as you would any anime adaptation on a manga series.
Maybe if Nintendo ran a poll, Let’s use Awakening’s story for an example. Say we are on the first chapter, Nintendo creates a poll with all the possible actions that could happen, the winning answers get used in that chapter’s episode. Units can be put head to head to see who will continue through the rest of the story, Letting Nintendo kill 1 or 2 big favorites off after gathering the children The first half of the game can be Season one, establish characterS, a few support episodes, and all of the marriages mostly done
So by tactics do you mean like how Code Geass handles it or how Attack on Titan does it? Either way, in order to truly flesh out the characters it would have to be like Code Geass in length and in between battles.
I think they would be able to make a more engaging story if they tried to add story to already existing stories instead of retelling things we have already seen. For example having an anime based off of Awakening where the whole show is Lucina in the future before she comes to the past. It would be hard to tactics in this way but it would allow them to have the chance to make a story that stands on its own feet and ties into a main game’s story. This also could be a really good advertisement to buy the game to get the rest of the related story if you have only seen the anime and gives new story to people who have already played the game.
or go the pokemon route and go it's own route from the game, while adapting events from the game .. to tell it's own story...... but im pretty sure that will piss off fans, or just make prequels to the events of the games to promote the game
What if it was structured somewhat like the battles in the attack on titan anime? Each battle can last anywhere from 1-6 episodes, and make each tactical move be extremely helpful or very detrimental. Make it of one of the games, and include the full cast but continually kill them off when bad tactical decisions are made, just like what would happen with permadeath. There's so much potential with a structure like that.
What do you think of the Lodoss OVAs as a point of reference? * Lodoss had a very simple story, that was literally just a quest undertaken by a balanced team of adventurers of fairly simple character archetypes. Good-natured simple everyman fighter, standoffish druidic elf, nice quiet cleric, smart mage, angry dwarf. It stood on its fantastic choreography, beautiful animation, and intense and memorable scenes (like the castle fire, dragon fight, Fahn and Beld's duel...), and appealing character designs. * I don't think it's necessarily bad to having most of the cast be there for flavour in the background. It's possible to characterise characters enough to be interesting with few scenes and little dialogue, a la Berserk; with most of the focus on whatever core cast is most interesting. * While Lodoss focused on skirmishes, I think it, Grimgar, and the Scottish intro to the first Highlander movie give indications for how to deliver choreographed engagements. A Fire Emblem series could focus more on Highlander style context and tactical discussions before transitioning into the duels or group fights. The fantastic Fahn/Beld duel from Lodoss springs to mind for this phase. A lot of these elements are already there. Off the top of my head as I write this, a Fates: Conquest adaptation, e.g., could feature the variety and adventure of Nohr's locales, and the wonderful architecture of Windmire, Krakenburg, and the water city (what was it called?). I also think the existing Gundam-esque war story, while perhaps familiar at this point, is no less engaging, especially since in Conquest the cast is forced to commit atrocities, or accidentally enables them.
This could work, they could tell one new alternative story with one smaller group of characters like the children of Awekening if they didn't go to the past or a story focusing on the members of black fang
Tbh the most versatile i see a fire emblem animation would be the spin-offs like fire emblem warriors and heroes because of their cast and stories which brings characters from all over the franchise.
A Chapter based series 12 episodes per few chapters maybe 4 chapters as a game is around 4 to 5 chapters so that's 60 episodes for a whole game of Fire emblem have an episode structure where you have a plot with little to no combat, one with first hand strategy and more combat, and then moment to moment strategy and increased strategy, make it feel like a 20 episode series but each episode is split into 3 parts and are stretched out
Ehh, not quite. Fire Emblem: Hasha no Tsurugi tells its own story roughly as a side-story to FE6. Some characters from the game show up, but it's not an adaptation by any means
I think a pokemon origins type approach would be good in showing some key point is history of each game like maybe ike seeing his father dying azuras dance in the theater and the battle afterwards
ok. here is an idea: what if the anime was based on heroes? an anime adaptation would flesh out the barebones story, and it wouldnt be confined to any games worth of characters. sure, have everyone coexist in a shared enviroment, but have each episode focus on an issue that would build the set of characters for the episode (i.e. Vernica's loneliness, Shareena wanting to make friends, olivia wanting to learn from other units, etc). Then towards the end of the run, bring in a serious issue that unites all of the characters for a common goal.
As far as I see it, the one that has the most potential and is the one that is the most capable of filling all those points, is Three Houses. It doesn't have much characters and has a great history and the routes can be divided in seasons. It could be following the style of the Persona 5 anime and imply not the history and some game mechanics like the phone and the palaces. But it would be hard to adapt though.
I think a Fire Emblem anime could work if it approached action and tactics the way the manga/anime "Kingdom" does. It could also work with the amount of characters a Fire Emblem game presents by putting them in a position of power just behind the main characters or the tactician. For example just how Shin in Kingdom has the tittle of 5000 thousand man commander and has other characters under him be 1000 man commanders and those characters have 100 man commanders.
I think it might be possible to make an adaptation, and while we're at it, it should be FE4, the Jugdral series. It has the most plot, and a perfect mid season moment with Belhalla Battle.
I think that with something along the lines of 30~ chapters, Path of Radiance could be the best one there is to be adapted. Also, if it is successful, they can even make a Radiant Dawn one (Altough that one has to be like 35-45 episodes at least)
I feel like PoR might work best as an anime. The story is very anime-like to start with and the main cast could be Ike and the greil mercs, with the other allies coming in with supporting roles as they join, including them in each battle but not necessarily as the focus, just a shot or two if they're there. Tactics could be incorporated by going from shots of on the ground action like we're used to, to transitioning to a top-down perspective where we can see Gatrie covering Shinon for the old thunder n' lightning, before going back to action shots. As for supports I might say go with the canon pairings and incorporate those conversations. Imo all of the base conversations and hidden/unlockable characters should be included, so no one character is thrown under the bus lore-wise and has at least one moment of character building. With the base conversations and the conversations/story leading up to each battle or skirmish I think there would be a decent blend between action and character development.
Personally, I think one of the things you mentioned in the video could work out, if the story was supplementary. In order to forgo all of the issues of keeping up with an interactive medium and the limitations that come with it, you'd need practically need a new story to write from scratch. However, it still needs to be easily related to Fire Emblem players and still open to new watchers. By making a supplementary story you can get past both of those with ease as well as potentially make a foot hold for the story to be based around so it doesn't have to be from scratch. By using a supplementary story you can still have the fights and strategy in a Fire Emblem games without having to be too close to the actual battles in-game as well as distance the story from some of the more minor characters. That would allow the story writers to pick who they want in the story and the special moments while still having the freedom of not having choking ties to the game. This can also allow for a more focused story and plot development to one supplementary section. The freedom of a supplementary story can also help it stand on its own two feet rather than being dependent on a knowledge of the video game. Keep in mind that I haven't played any FE game besides Heroes (if you could count that lol) and only really know the basic story of Awakening. However, one example I had was if there was an anime based on the apocalypse timeline Lucina. I could imagine them making a story of Lucina growing up and learning to live, survive, and fight from Chrom. It could show a very nurturing side of Chrom teaching Lucina to use various weapons such as swords or lances, I could only think of these two from the weapons she uses in Heroes, in their troubled world as we also watch Lucina grow up herself from a young age. At some point we could see him bring Lucina to a battle or have her witness a battle where Your Forces are losing but then Chrom comes in and properly leading them with good strategies, turns the tide of battle. Lucina can develop her relationship with her father from a scene like this or something similar. It could also showcase other characters like Robin, for example, teaching Lucina things that Chrom couldn't like how to use a tome and develop the character that way. They could also just showcase some characters like aunt Emmeryn or Lisa or other favorites like Tharja, Nowi, or Fredrick spending time with Lucina and/or Chrom. Maybe even some of the child units can be seen playing with Lucina. It could also still use parts from the main story like Chrom being murdered by Robin and develop the Chrom and Robin before hand in order to create some juicy twists from the story that some people already know but can't anticipate when it will happen or newcomers who will be shocked by it. They could even end with seeing Lucina return to the main timeline. That was just my take on it but I'm not actually sure how the story would work out or how far the main story actually goes into it or how well it would worked out so I want to know what everyone else thinks. Is it a good idea or did I miss a flaw?
Nope, it totally checks out and I personally want the same direction. This video was more targeted at the issues of a direct adaptation, because I too think an alternative to a direct adaptation offers much more freedom to create something great. In hindsight, should have brought up alternatives in the video :/
Pavise Productions Oh ok it's nice to know it wasn't a bad idea. Do you have any other ideas of where they could set the story based on Fire Emblem lore? I only know Awakening's story so...
Like many others in the comments, I want to see the war that Chrom's father waged on Plegia before the events of Awakening. I think it would be a unique perspective to see things from Plegia's end if some or any of their anger against Ylisse is justified.
one problem i see with a fire emblem anime would have to be the multiple timelines of several of the games. Awakening has so much variability it would be impossible to please everyone, Three Houses and Fates have three to four entirely different stories depending on choices made. imo, any fire emblem anime would have to follow one of the games that only has one definitive story with not much variation between what happens to characters from playthrough to playthrough, such as Valentia/Gaiden
Looking at Yona of the DAwn is a good reference point, but I would also point to Arslan Senki. Pretty much exactly what I'd expect from an FE anime. Check it out if you haven't!
I think they should be focused on the strategists and their confrontations. I don't want to wright a paragraph on that one so figure-it out by yourself.
Maybe the cast problem could be fixed by having only the main characters of each game in a team together and maybe they could have a new unit join their team each episode and then they leave at the end of the episode
I feel like if fire emblem was ever an anime, it would be like fairy tail with it's large cast that somehow doesn't get too overshadowed by the main group, possibly taking short breaks from the plot to explore character backgrounds, or side characters, with a plot and serious vibe like Yona,
Heroes could work as an anime. With it being a mobile game, its story isn’t as fleshed out as main series titles. And as far as units, Kiran can summon one or two heroes an episode, similar to Yu Narukami from Persona 4.
I could see an FE anime working best as a side-story or a spin-off, rather than a direct adaptation. That way, you can deal with a more manageable cast of characters and tell a more original story that would work for a television series. A couple examples of the top of my head; a prequel series to Awakening that details the war between Plegia and Ylisse that's alluded to so many times during the story, but never really elaborated upon. Or, how about a story set in Jugdral in the interim between Sigurd's death and the rise of the Liberation Army? There's a lot of potential and intrigue in showing showing Arvis's further rise to power.
#3 I don't think it a big prob after all most game only focus on a small amont of main character whit some side character easy to understand For exemple: Shadow Dragon focus on: Marth, Jagen, Caeda, Minerva, Tiki, Ogma and may be Navarre The Sacred Stones focus on: Eirika, Seth, Joshua, Ephraim, Innes, L'Arachel, Duessel (As much as I like Forde and Vanessa they are not important to the story) The Blazing Blade focus on: Lyndis, Nils, Eliwood, Hector, Ninian, Pent, Louise and Nino (for exemple 6:35 well like in all fire emblem game for exemple: Gilliam, Franz, Moulder, Garcia are just there in Fire emblem Sacred stone they are good character but they all have like 3 line of dialogue in the game...) But I most agreed I would love to see alot of tactic in the story and the Story would be great to focus on a gray style of story and showing the 2 side of war (showing how even whene you try to help you can do more damage than really any thing else. Showing some story arc whit character geting explore like Orson could be a great story arc for a 5ish epision) But any way I am not saying it would work well I am just saying it could work. (also I would love them to keep there classy art style insteed of going full anime style if they do something like that. I would want a you know a Steins-gate, Fate or art style you know something Classy more than a artstyle like naruto, One peice or hunter x hunter The best art style would be moribito guardian of the spirit I think. EDIT: Oh yah and I would love to see that story focus on a new cast of character insteed of one form the game that way you could not compare the 2 and the story would be already better because of the lack of spoiler May be the story of Altina form the Tellius Series story could work since we don't know what her story trully is and they could give some curveball arrond the way. SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH
One easy way to deal with the bloat of characters:
Kill them off.
Blue Arrow
Definitely.
Is a balancing act, but it's possible if they go the adaptation route
like how Kliff gets impaled by a lance by Desaix like in the Gaiden Manga?
Heck, My Hero Academia has introduced well over 30 characters in its first two seasons, and I'm pretty sure any of us who've watched it can easily identify the personalities and traits of each. And they've managed to give them all enough screen time and make their conversations mesh very well.
Anime with tons of characters can definitely work.
What if they remake the 1990 one? Y’know:
But MARRRRRRRRRRRSSSSS!
But
A) Current VA'S
B) Stuff that was never in the games
C) Show cool battles
D) Western release
E) MAAAARRRRRSSSSS
BUT MARRRRRRRRRRTH
I didn't want to be localized
Lost Weeb i want them to remake the Marth scream
1996, actually.
Mega Sodarayg we really need official releases of the japan exclusive stuff, either just translation for Eshop, or more Echoes games.
+Mega Sodarayg You do realize that they'll probably just censor Genealogy anyways right?
Hey I saw you on Memelord's Ikr video lmao
I'm gonna need you to be a bit more specific. But yeah, I'm all over the place.
I have an idea.
What if the adaptations...
were movies....
and an original series was the main anime.
River Greystoke II With a massive story like FE4, you make a 6-12 hour movie and split it up on several discs, a la The Godfather or LoTR.
How the hell would they be able to fit any of the games into a 2-3 hour movie?
Simple story? Genealogy of the Holy war is anything but simple my boi
Instead of a adaption they should make a story from scratch.
MrToonlink53 or do a pokemon style anime, where parts of the game are present, but its not ‘the game’. Wow, its harder to explain than i thought.
I think they should go the rout of castlevania on netflix with some of the fan favorite characters but an entirely original plot
Or maybe a new fe1/fe2 anime that's mostly slice-of-life with the main game sprinkled in at points
The only FE games I can see really working in a full-fledged anime would be Genealogy or Path of Radiance
Mariode Rip Quan and Ethlyn. Yeah, stuff like that where it's events of NPCs interacting with each other would work really well in anime form.
You could even split Genealogy into two seasons (one per generation), with maaaaayyyyybe an adapation of Thracia thrown in somewhere.
That'd probably be a spin-off season if anything
Plastc Ike I don't know. Not much actually happens in Thracian. I feel like they could merge the more important events with genealogy pretty well.
That is, by far, the greatest idea I've ever heard.
Yeah, that's a good idea. Oh and in RD they could do the part about Altina.
I would totally watch an anime about the early years of the Black Fang.
Fantastic idea
Brilliant idea! We saw what IS can animate during cinematics..those missed plot points can be the interesting side episodes..
To be fair, that anime was supposed to have been based on Mystery of the Emblem, so they just went over the first three parts of Book 1, and Book 1 cut out a lot of characters, plot points, etc. anyway.
Bullwine85 my bad, i should have said fe1/3. having played both i understand what you mean. fe3 cut out content to fit more content then the anime cut even more.
more like the opposite, it was very detailed, but was basically a chapter an episode and only 2 episodes, so it didn't get very far.
Maybe Fire Emblem could be adapted in the way Castlevania was?
Are you talking about the Netflix series?
JMD99 yep
BUT MAAAAAAAAAAAARS!
I honestly don't care if there's no tactics involved
1) His half-dragon heritage gives him a "Cute Little Fang"
2) His habit of going barefoot is more "Lampshaded" and is often made fun of
3) His love for both his families is so strong, that he nearly commits suicide to stop their war for him.
Just do an adaptation on Echoes SOV, Geneaology, or maybe path of radiance, or even sacred stones. An original Heroes story would also be nice
#TheFierceDarkDragonAndTheHappyHungryBunch
(If you have read the Yona manga you'll understand.)
I haven‘t read it, but my guess is that this is some Engrish from the manga, and i want to read it now.
Fire Emblem Heroes anime could work tbh
About the Nifl,Embla and Muspell kingdoms? Maybe it could work..as long as they do not go full weeb on the anime..and lessen the fanservice..too much fanservice will ruin the plot..if there is _plot_ in the first place..I'm looking at you Loki and Guntthra..
The Shipping pairs in Awakening were highly customizable to the player's preference. By that logic, almost 90% of Awakening's players will be disappointed with the pairs that the anime studio dictates as "canon". There is no way to win.
A path of radiance anime would be perfect. It's got a lot of material that could be worked into a show.
Get this Man a spot in intelligent system
Someone get this dude in contact with the people behind The Witcher movie and the Castlevania show on Netflix.
I swear to god, when I grow up I’ll make a fire emblem series on Netflix based on the first game with Tara strong making the voice of tiki
This is Nintendo we are talking about btw
"the guy who stopped Grima the first time"... You mean Alm?
@@kyuutouryuu No the other guy..and why does the Falchion keep changing it's form? It's not the Yato is it?
Martha? WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!?!?
Whoever makes a FE3H anime, u will be my new favourite anime maker person
This is great and all, but I think you're forgetting the most important step... Step 3: REMOVE PAN-oh wait wrong game. We actually need to make sure Marth has pants this time though
if there is a roy in the anime im DOWN
So a Binding Blade/Blazing Sword adaptation?
@@NEETKitten nah just anything with Roy tbh
Roy's our boy
I think you could make a good anime out of awakening
Yes, if only to finally explain what was up with these hands.
I really loved the way you did this video. It shows how much of a true fan you are because you took the time to think about the game as an adaptation. I could tell just how much you like the games. You were clear, thorough, and had lots of strong points, both for and against it. It opened my eyes for sure.
THEY SHOULD DO AN AWAKENING ANIME!!!
...plz?
You did an amazing job with this video. You brought up all the problems I could think of (even how well Yona of the Dawn did by fixing some of the problems Fire Emblem has) and more. Not to mention how well structured all of the points were and how you never lost focus on the topic at hand. Well done.
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed :)
Honestly i would love Pokemon Generations-esque Shorts that focus on wacky character interactions or re-imagine specific battles. Nintendo seems to have a specific love for this format, so it could be possible.
"50 episodes"
That...
That really isn't that much for anime standards, some have 500-800 and are STILL going. Besides, 50 episodes worked for Soul Eater, why can't this?
I think he meant in modern standards, where anime rarely hit the 20 episode mark, and even more rarely get a 2nd season.
Most anime actually go for 12 episodes per season or (if you're lucky) 24 episodes per season. A lot don't get sequels too.
"But Marrrrrrr..." it has already worked as an anime (meme). "Five points!"
But Maaaaarrrrth!
Also Girls und Panzer also managed a giant cast in only 12 episodes.
Now, is a pretty close adaptation of two GBA games, but still, those games have the same problem.
rifasclub
I stopped asking questions long ago and ikr plot hole.
The show had a large cast, and while not all of them were entirely fleshed out, the minor characters in the band of the hawk often got a lot of screen time
There is an old anime for Fire emblem but its only like 4 episodes
BUT MAAAAARS
I'd say something like what they did with Pokemon Generations last year could work - showing small 3-5 minute snippets of in-game story moments/cutscenes throughout the series that are fully animated and remastered sounds much more manageable to me.
I've always imagined a fire emblem anime would be something similar to a gundam show, but like medieval fantasy and whatnot.
Same
So for anyone interested, there was a manga made to advertise Fire Emblem 6 that focuses on three characters who are affecting events of the game as it goes on. It goes all the way to the end of the game. Their weapons also all appear in FE6
Ah, I'll actually be talking about this manga soon in a video so look forward to that.
Maybe they could do something similar to Pokemon generations.
Just make a like 10-20 minute episode dedicated to each of the games and it just goes bit by bit
Maybe on key parts or scenes of the stories which go into more depth then what we see in the games
That’s my opinion honestly
I think a side story to one of the games would probably be the most viable option for an anime. They could add cameos or references to the war without having to actually have the story revolve around it. Surely the places we see in the games arent the only ones affected by the war?
I dont think anyone wanting an anime wants the same feeling from the game but a insight to the chracters living thier life fighting and going about thier lives
instead of Anime Adaptation they can do OVA that focus on some characters and maybe Original Story
like Tales of Vesperia The First Strike
and in this case It's maybe "Xander and his former retainer", "Lucina journey to the past" or "7th Platoon Special Mission"
It was so hard for me to stop myself from commenting about yona of the dawn before finishing the video. I'm glad I waited
Can we get some high quality voice acting. I don’t want to hear the words “But, Mars!”
But maaaaaaarrrssss
Code Geass this something good with the strategy, maybe something fast like that could work.
I think it would be nice to have character appear as brief chameos in places before expanding while having characters split up into units
Kane and Able
Marth and Jagen that might get replaced with Caeda
Lena and Julian
Having more squads and things form kind of like how in the last chapter you split into 3 groups and assault the castle from multiple angles..
What aboot indipendent animated movies ?
Maybe if Nintendo ran a poll,
Let’s use Awakening’s story for an example.
Say we are on the first chapter, Nintendo creates a poll with all the possible actions that could happen, the winning answers get used in that chapter’s episode.
Units can be put head to head to see who will continue through the rest of the story,
Letting Nintendo kill 1 or 2 big favorites off after gathering the children
The first half of the game can be Season one, establish characterS, a few support episodes, and all of the marriages mostly done
Support episodes could be like fillers,
I think for some prime water testing, they should redub the OVA in both English and Japanese with the current voice casts.
They would probably adapt
FE: Awakening, Fates and Three Houses
They should follow Persona 4 the Animation's example
or go the pokemon route and go it's own route from the game, while adapting events from the game .. to tell it's own story...... but im pretty sure that will piss off fans, or just make prequels to the events of the games to promote the game
Have you seen Berserk (the old not the 2017) anime? I think a fire emblem anime would work fine.
Yeah Beserk 1997 is one of my favorite shows. But it's a manga adaptation, which is much easier to translate to anime than a video game.
A Chapter based series
12 episodes per few chapters maybe 4 chapters as a game is around 4 to 5 chapters so that's 60 episodes for a whole game of Fire emblem have an episode structure where you have a plot with little to no combat, one with first hand strategy and more combat, and then moment to moment strategy and increased strategy, make it feel like a 20 episode series but each episode is split into 3 parts and are stretched out
i just love the cgi/anime mix style of the animations from awakening, fates, echoes, path of radience etc
BUT MAAAAAARS
They made a manga adaptation of FE6 soooo
Ehh, not quite. Fire Emblem: Hasha no Tsurugi tells its own story roughly as a side-story to FE6. Some characters from the game show up, but it's not an adaptation by any means
I think a pokemon origins type approach would be good in showing some key point is history of each game like maybe ike seeing his father dying azuras dance in the theater and the battle afterwards
what about the 2 episode anime fire emblem has?
It's an OVA actually
ok. here is an idea: what if the anime was based on heroes? an anime adaptation would flesh out the barebones story, and it wouldnt be confined to any games worth of characters. sure, have everyone coexist in a shared enviroment, but have each episode focus on an issue that would build the set of characters for the episode (i.e. Vernica's loneliness, Shareena wanting to make friends, olivia wanting to learn from other units, etc). Then towards the end of the run, bring in a serious issue that unites all of the characters for a common goal.
There is a fire emblem anime. The first game got an anime adaption years back. I haven’t watched it, but I do want to.
The Dub of the Fire Emblem OVA had cool as hell opening narration so it was worth watching.
We Need Rowan tier voice acting (joke,Rowan voice sucks)
We need OVA Gordin tier voice acting. That shit was godlike.
But MAaAaRS!
"BUT MAAAAARS" xD
We need warriors Hinoka level voice acting
The heroic legend of arslan can be used as a foundation for adapting fire emblem I think
FE Fates would make for a good adaption. The story had great potential, maybe an anime could tell the story better
Pavise Productions
Oh ok it's nice to know it wasn't a bad idea.
I think three houses tell a decent story but you have to choose an house to animate or go full Original route.
#3 I don't think it a big prob after all most game only focus on a small amont of main character whit some side character easy to understand
For exemple:
Shadow Dragon focus on: Marth, Jagen, Caeda, Minerva, Tiki, Ogma and may be Navarre
The Sacred Stones focus on: Eirika, Seth, Joshua, Ephraim, Innes, L'Arachel, Duessel (As much as I like Forde and Vanessa they are not important to the story)
The Blazing Blade focus on: Lyndis, Nils, Eliwood, Hector, Ninian, Pent, Louise and Nino
(for exemple 6:35 well like in all fire emblem game for exemple: Gilliam, Franz, Moulder, Garcia are just there in Fire emblem Sacred stone they are good character but they all have like 3 line of dialogue in the game...)
But I most agreed I would love to see alot of tactic in the story and the Story would be great to focus on a gray style of story and showing the 2 side of war (showing how even whene you try to help you can do more damage than really any thing else. Showing some story arc whit character geting explore like Orson could be a great story arc for a 5ish epision)
But any way I am not saying it would work well I am just saying it could work.
