  • On this episode of 'VICE INTL,' we check in with Dan Leung, a pro skater who's been shredding in Shanghai for more than a decade. But after taking a three-year hiatus, Leung wondered if he'd ever ride again. Now, he's back into the sport, and trying to turn a local Chinese skateboard mag into the next 'Thrasher.'

"haizi" doesn't mean "little dick", it just means "child".

Why bother putting up subtitles if you are only going to flash them for a half second? I think the industry standard is 1.5 seconds which is still a bit fast for most people.

That´s a "real" motivation documentary. The way how Dan Leung and his friends live is admirable. This Skate Culture what he is talking about in the movie, shows that there is so much heart for the sport and respect for the people. Thats just awesome. Thanks Vice

For so many documentaries and films that depict China as smoggy cities with factories and no emotion, this doc at least gave Shanghai some life and soul. Skateboarding may not be for me, but at least it makes China look more human, y'know?

Skaters are family. That's the way I see it. I could be in my home city, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, San Fran, anywhere and if I see anyone skating I'll give them props for doing what they love. I'm proud to belong to that family. One that has no divide. It doesn't matter where you come from, what colour your skin is, what sexual oreintation you are, you're a skater. That unity and level of respect shown across the skating community is something that will never fail to make me smile. Keep skating, much love.

Falling in and out of love with skateboarding... Tell me about it. I never did, I fell out of time. Skating takes time, practice, dedication. Without that you become rusty. Losing strength in your legs is the biggest thing I've found. A 18 inch high kickflip was a walk in the park. Now I put every ounce of effort into getting that board 6 inches off the ground. God I miss my youth. I miss skateboarding.

What he said in the video on how in the states everyone looks at a skate spot a pro or anyone took a video at etc..... they want to do better tricks out do the pros..... What he might not know is that we think this way because the school systems in America are in a way forcing the new generations and even old generations to compete...... to have competition not collaboration.... None the less great video great skating making me want to pick up my old board and go ride... :)

👍👍AWESOME!! What a cool story!! Not a skatey myself but I know a LOT that are and they ARE a culture unto themselves👍👍.... I liken them to surfies, in the sense that wherever they go they are like family... and there ain't a specific age sex religion ethnicity thing about it. They can look a little rough around the edges, but I've never ever met an unsociable skatey or surfey! And to see this dude still get joy out of it like he always did, reminds me of ALLLLL my friends family that were enthusiasts too.... it was often their happy go to place in the world.... if they were feeling frustrated or down, off they went.... 9 times outta 10, they'd always return better than when they left! Even though the skate or surfboard are a one person piece of equipment, it unites a whole world of people.... some of the coolest, funniest, caring and most eclectic bunches of people too!! 👌💯‼
I'd imagine the reason for declining numbers is that too many kids are behind bloody computer or phone screens instead of being outside SMH 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
    I'll ALWAYS trust a skater/surfer over a Lawyer/Politician!!
