    Mistake 1 - cutting yor favourite foods out of yor diet, it's not sustainable. Instead make an ingredient swop or adjust portions
    Mistakes 2 - forcing yourself to eat foods you don't like esp if someone said it works. Eg if you don't want to eat brocolli, then don't
    Mistake 3 - designing hour long sessions. It's about quality not quantity. You can increase the time gradually.
    Mistake 4 - you burn as many calories as ou can eg training harder to do more. It will affect your metabolism, instead try to build more muscle
    Mistake 5 - stress about meal times. How you schedule your eating times depends on you and your goals.
    Mistake 6 - focusing on being good all week and not being consistent during the weekend. Rather focus on consistency every day. You might be restricting yourself too much.
    Mistake 7 - you do all the habits you should be doing. Implementing them all at once. Rather assess if it meets your lifestyle otherwise it will overwhelm you. Focus on small changes and meet yourself where you're at. Can start by tracking what you currently do.

    These tips are gold! Another tip that's adjacent to overtraining and restrictive calories is the higher risk of injury. Nothing will derail progress faster than hurting yourself because you decided to increase your exercise volume too quickly and having to spend weeks or months doing rehab. Meeting your body where it's at is so damn key. Thanks for the tips and reminders, I'm saving this to my fitness motivation folder 💜

    I love yr phase that everyone’s eating lifestyle isn’t the same. One persons healthy eating doesn’t have to be the same as another. Perfect sense 🤯And the quantities of meals….I’m a hairstylist so 6 meals a day doesn’t fit. Sometimes I’m lucky if I actually get to SIT DOWN and eat. Yr advice always realistic. Thank you! 💪🏼

    I just did keto with intermittent fasting. Within 12 months I'd lost 30lbs and now have abs for the first time in over 30 years. No calorie/macro counting, no hunger. Just natural, nutrient dense wholefoods - 2 large meals per day. Pound for pound I've not lost any strength. I'm male, 58y/o..........

    Absolutely Spot On - I repeat these similar words to my clients during the month of December, before their New Years Resolutions looms. I prefer to ask them if their vision will be achievable by April. Meaning, four months from now, is your half thought plan sustainable?? For my cookie and chip eaters, I ask them to leave their favorite cookie on top of the microwave or coffee maker and take all day to consume that cookie. When you need that cookie, reward yourself. Not with an 8 pack of cookies but small portions for that gratification. Now we all know that this is a very delicate dance with clients because we NEVER want to take away their power.
    All of your points are valid and well said. I truly hope that your wisdom guides others to recognize , shift, and accept with grace and dignity. After all, we are all in this together and we all gotta start somewhere. Smile
    Also, the slo mo with the pups, BRILLIANT !!

    Consistency is key. Weight lifting has been a huge game changer for me. It keeps my knee arthritis non existent and my menopause symptoms at a minimal rate. I feel extremely grateful for the ability (and motivation) to workout at age 53. I added a bit more protein and healthy carbs at night and I sleep so much better. Couple things I been doing is lowering alcohol consumption down to like 1-3 drinks per week/every other week, not eating til I’m full but just eating til I’m not hungry anymore (there’s a difference trust me), and then I just prefer to do some form or cardio and core workouts for every general workout I do. So I switch between doing a sprint walk interval (walk for 2 minutes, sprint for 30 seconds) for like 20-25 minutes. Or just jogging at 5-6 mph for a full mile to mile and 1/2.
    Not any significantly huge improvements but improvements nonetheless

    As usual, an uncommon amount of sound good sense in such a highly compressed message - a real gift of summary there, combined with rare lucidity. And BTW, what impresses me particularly in all your videos is not only the way you look - that is to say, fit beyond belief - but the way you *move*. Still working toward getting that fluid just in moving (sigh).

    I agree for an overall lifestyle. However, when everything is dialed in you can do short mini cuts (like 2 weeks) and go ham with slashing the calories and doing more cardio. 2 weeks likely isn't enough time for the metabolism to adapt or muscle to be lost if you continue focusing on weight training and getting in sufficient protein. But it is long enough to lose a bit of body fat every time.
    After a mini cut, slowly reverse out of the caloric restriction until you're back at maintenance (100 kcal a day more per week).
    I've had success with that approach in the past.

    Hello! I often watch your videos and really enjoy the content and suggestions. You also mention a lot about “at any age” and menopause. Is it ok to ask how old you are? I don’t think you’re old enough to be experiencing menopause yet but perhaps you have worked with women who have… ? Im only a couple years away I’m guessing and I’m a little nervous about it 😢

    • @redefiningstrengthOC
      @redefiningstrengthOC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So peri-menopause can start as early as our late 30s. I mention that because often women don't realize that hormones can start to fluctuate then. I've also had clients go through it earlier because of medical issues and surgeries. A majority of my clients are also starting peri-menopause or in menopause so I've not only done my research but have experience helping others adjust. One size doesn't fit all! I've made it a focus and speciality as I want to even understand how to better prepare clients for the ups and downs they will see. Do not be nervous about it but instead just remember that our body, needs and goals are constantly evolving. So if you track and tweak based on the changes you're seeing, you'll be fine. We only really get stuck when we don't embrace the fact that nothing works forever and as our hormones change, our habits need to evolve as well!

I've been weight-training 3x a week (1½ hour program each time) since I retired almost five years ago. I've always tried to slowly increase the weight I'm lifting and I've lost about 20 pounds (partly due to diet improvements), but I'm discovering that too much weight results in pain and injuries. • @redefiningstrengthOC
      @redefiningstrengthOC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So first question would be is this a watch heart rate monitor? If so, any time you swing your arms quickly, it can potentially register a higher heart rate and higher calorie burn. So just a high heart rate without other health concerns and you still feeling good to train, I wouldn't stress over it but never bad to WATCH and track for future just to make sure. You never want to ignore something, especially if it is unusual for you. If you felt light headed or super maxed out or feel like you are not feeling well, never bad to get checked out.

    As far as I know, resting metabolic rate increases 6kcal/lb of muscle, vs 3kcal/lb of fat. So by for example losing 10lbs of fat and gaining 10lbs of muscle (which is a lot, especially for women!), your net increase in resting metabolic rate is 30kcal. I think resistance training is great for a lot of reasons, and so is cardio training by the way, but the metabolic rate wouldn't be one of them.
