- Hey y'all! I'm so sorry for the technical difficulties which made a reupload necessary, but thank you for your patience! Here is the long-awaited recap/yap session for Bridgerton season 3 episode 4. As I explain, this is a hall of fame episode simply because it contains the carriage scene, but there are lots of other things to discuss and dissect throughout the episode. Believe it or not, this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as unpacking the carriage scene goes, but keep an eye out because there is much more to come breaking down that particular scene. What did y'all think of this episode? Hope you enjoy, leave any and all thoughts, comments, questions below!

“Anthony when he’s jealous wants to kill someone else. Colin when he’s jealous wants to kill himself” first of all relatable content. Second of all, THATS TO TRUUUUUE
To add on to an unrelated note, that one two punch of his facial expressions in the carriage after she touches his hair is insane. I saw that for the first time and literally screamed in shock.
The joy/ecstacy on Colin's face when she stroked his hair was everything. All the more since it was Nicola who suggested to add that to the scene. She mentioned it was something Penelope would do. And oh, was she right! 💯❤
It’s giving the sorrows of young Werther by Goethe 😂 typical german literature Eloise would say
@@malena5026I’m reading the story you named and WOW is it veeeeeerrrryyyyyy Colin and Penelope coded. I can’t believe they didn’t mention this in addition to Eros and Psyche.
“Luke Newton made Colin so much hotter.” Ain’t that the truth!!
Take care and be well. Hope to see the next epi soon.
❤❤❤❤
Instead of flashing back to the scene where Pen helped him bandage his cut hand, they should have had Colin remember the scene from season 1 when she told him that if one is fortunate to find love, they should declare it “assuredly, fervently, loudly.” Imagine that being the realization that pushes him to go interrupt her proposal from Debling! Gah! How did they not do any flashbacks to previous seasons!?
This would've been so good! They had so much they could've work with
I would have loved that. They could have had him have several flashes as well and I would have loved a mini-montage of sorts lol
Everything Colin did in episode 4 was initiated from a single moment in episode 3. During the ballroom scene at the end of episode 3 Colin is asked by one of his admirers about the balloon incident. Her question was “where ever did you find such courage?” As she is asking Colin the question, Penelope catches his eyes (as she always does) and he states “Courage is within us all, as long as we are honest with ourselves and about our feelings.” As he speaks he is transfixed by Penelope and he is talking more to himself than the ladies surrounding him, or even Pen herself. He is talking about being honest with himself about his incredible love for Pen. Penelope hears everything he is saying, but because of her low self-esteem she has no idea that he is talking to himself about his feelings for her. Pen pauses in a moment of contemplation, makes a decision, nods to herself, and in so doing choice to give up on Colin, and then turns her back on him and towards Lord Debling in a literal and symbolic effort to close the door on any hope of her and Colin. That moment was heartbreaking to me and I felt anger and sadness in equal measure. All of his angst, rudeness, and brooding during episode 4 stems from her turning away from him and his depression simply deepens until he decides he has nothing to lose and goes to the ball to talk Pen out of marrying Lord Debling. Lastly, Pens little grin when she has ahold of his hair and he is lost in his lust for her, and her realizing it’s because at that moment she is his entire world, it’s everything and my favorite moment. It is the hottest moment in Bridgerton history for the simple fact that they are so done with anything holding them back and don’t even care that they are basically in public. It is a miracle they were not seen or heard and had they even the smallest modicum of self control it never would have happened. I equate the knowledge that they are the ONLY couple who would do this this to the fact that they have known one another for so long, have so much history together, and that the level of pent up emotions were to great to allow decorum stop them. When they realize the time they wasted, that they were perfect for one another all along, the longing to not allow one more second to pass before releasing all of their emotions and showing their passion was too great. It is what every man and woman on the planet wishes and dreams they will one day feel. I live in that moment and hope that we all can someday attain such joy. **** Quick thought about world peace: It is achievable if every man on earth loves a woman so deeply that her happiness is all he thinks about. No time for war when you are a puppy dog in love. End of thought.****
Very well said! 👏🏻👏🏻
I love reading about your thoughts! Love that quick thought 🤣
Love it ❤
Thanks for putting this into words. I totally agree especially about the courage speech part. This speech is very important. If Colin had not said these words Pen would never have had the courage to try turn the Colin page. Totally agree about what you say about love and war.
Until Debling this season, Colin has never had to share Penelope's attention with any other man. He's never been interrupted when talking with Penelope by anyone but Eloise. Penelope never dances with anyone else or flirts or talks with anyone else but Colin. So him reacting to Debling the way he does actually makes perfect sense. Penelope is his. Always has been. She has dutifully stood on the sidelines by the wall and really only existed for Colin. Now suddenly, she has a life that doesn't include him, let alone revolving around him, and he finally realizes what his life will be like without her. Once she marries someone else, they can't gossip in corners or write letters to each other or dance ever again. He didn't realize how important that all was to him until it was threatened this way. Now, he knows he needs her and wants that relationship and wants to be entitled to all of her time and attention forever. So, that's it. He's going after her, even to the point of interrupting her and Debling on the dance floor in front of everyone. Even to the point of chasing after her out of the ball and getting in her carriage with her, alone. He already knew when he did these things, that he was going to marry her if he could just verify that she returned his feelings first. This is not a conversation you can feasibly have in public in the ton. He can't risk her feeling pressured to say yes if she doesn't actually want him, or deny her feelings because it's not socially acceptable for her to admit them in public. That's part of why they have the awkward non-confession on the dance floor. They are talking at cross-purposes here. She has no idea what he's driving at because she has been actively trying to move on from her unrequited love for him and he doesn't know that she ever had those feelings at all. It's so rom-com perfect. And it leads him to the carriage scene, which gives total "when Harry met Sally" vibes ("when you realize...you want it to start as soon as possible"). Once he confirms in the carriage that she wants him back - he gets started on their forever right the hell now. He doesn't care that his unacceptable behavior at the ball and in the carriage has effectively ruined her reputation and all of her other prospects unless they get married because that's exactly what they both want anyway. This ridiculous display he puts on is his boom box "say anything" moment - he wants her back and doesn't care that everyone can see it now. If she didn't love him desperately, this would all be terrible and we'd be justifiably angry at him. But he's totally head over heels for her and she deserves the grand gestures after pining so long, so we forgive the man for being crazed. Rom-com girly that I am, I kinda love it for them both. No one, watching this performance from Colin knowing that he damn well knows none of his behavior is "good ton" can possibly doubt theirs is anything but a love match. Who else in the ton would be a good fit for either of them except each other? No one. No one else can see through the wallflower facade to the real Pen and no one else sees through the "man about town" facade to the real Colin. The ton falls for the superficial glamour and misses the whole truth of either of them. I love that his whole family sees this truth and loves this match for both of them, even if Anthony and Eloise take a beat first.
I think the flashback to the hand cut moment was meant to convey that as a moment he landed on where he got a hint from Pen that she might have felt something more for him than friendship, so it's like a motivation to actually make a move because there's hope if he goes to break up Pen and Debling before they're engaged and actually shoots his shot, that he won't be rejected. Like there's hope because there's something reciprocated there. that's my take anyway.
And maybe thats the first time he's felt taken care of by anyone in a long time - in a big family , attention and feeling taken care of can be infrequent. My mom was one of 9 kids and she said oftenbyou had to take care of yourself.
I agree. Everyone says that he should have seen the signs but Pen was at fault for not being open with her feelings. No one should be expected to be a mind reader. Also, she “rejected” him after their first kiss when they had the awkward meeting under the tree. She was the one who started putting boundaries up and pretended the kiss meant nothing. In fact, she was the one that ran away after the kiss. He wanted more and stood frozen there. Yes, he was blind but she was evasive/hiding. The carriage scene was the first time she was honest and open with her feelings. He took that and ran a whole marathon with it😂
i agree that the flashback was precisely for that reason. however, i think in the context of the episode & what colin does afterwards, it's awkward. Some ppl fairly pointed out that Colin running her after that moment does give "ex-bf who only goes after u once he sees you with someone else" vibes. Assuming that's what the general audience sees, then they really need to amp up the stakes when Colin makes the decision to go after her. In that moment, i think it would've been more powerful to have flashbacks to S1 & S2 when Colin has stared at her deeply or when they've had any giggly/smiling conversations. This would convey that he is going after someone (and in Pen's eyes, ruining her life by interfering with Debling's proposal) he has known & had some sort of feeling for YEARS.
I think flashback to the hand cutting seen would've been better in ep 2 when Colin & Eloise are in the carriage to the ball when he is staring at his bandage.
I can see that.
The more I rethink it, I love how they both looked into each other’s eyes. But it was more.
There was more inappropriate touching. She took off her long gloves.
A friend would just hand him the bandage. A person who wants more bends down to his level while lingering as she puts the bandage on his wound.
The moment lasted longer than it should because scandal. But they broke every rule at this point. What is one more?
But unlike Pen who usually breaks the stare, he broke eye contact this time.
It is so good. Part 1 was fantastic.

I 💯% agree that the carriage scene is one the of the best scenes we have ever seen on Bridgerton (including Queens Charlotte); it is perfection from beginning to end. I’m so looking forward to your analysis.
The Best description I've heard of Colin's facial expression when Penelope is stroking his hair is that, "He looks positively...FERAL." Shout out to the 'What A Barb! : A Polin Podcast' for that quote. It lives rent-free in my mind Everytime I watch this scene. ❤
My favourite description I heard was that she found the off button to Colin's brain
Hilarious! So true 😂
Can't wait to see your carriage scene videos!!! It goes in the hall of fame for me, too. And a lot of it is Luke's facial expressions- both during his confession and when she touches his hair. But! What KILLS me is the way he "breathes out" at the same time as her (I don't know how else to phrase that?) when he gets under the dress and (I'm assuming) makes contact. It is such a small and authentic moment. Why do I love it so much? Not sure. Maybe it feels like he's worshipping her (which is of course what I'm here for)? Or that touching her is as pleasurable for him as it is for her? Unhinged. Absolutely one of the hottest scenes ever. And they are fully clothed!!
I agree with you. He wants to please her and takes pleasure in watching her being pleased. It’s the same facial expressions he makes in the mirror scene when he touches her as well. What makes it even hotter is the way he hovers over, watching her, not kissing her but taking in her moans and her breath instead. Yes, this was one of the most romantic and sexiest performances I’ve seen.
I get that impression too! He’s always worried about her mind and her thoughts, makes sense that he would want to learn and do what feels good for her
I noticed that in the carriage & mirror scene, Colin starts to moan & breathe harder when he starts touching her. His facial expressions are also just as intense as when they are actually doing it. Amazing acting by Luke to convey that Colin is just as aroused pleasuring Pen as Pen is by him!
A small thing: I'm glad you pointed out that Debling's comment when he rejected Pen was about Pen having an affair! SO many ppl got mad at Debling saying he was a hypocrite for telling Pen he can't love her but she isn't allowed to love some else and I'm like "That's literally NOT what he's talking about!" Him not wanting her to have a bastard child is still IMO within the bounds of wanting a "practical" marriage. There's serious implications for his reputation as a man in this time period AND his entire estate. If it was discovered that Pen's son wasn't Debling's, Pen would have no guaranteed financial security & it would go to the next person in line & that person very well may be several degrees separated from Debling's family. And since Pen never objected to him talking about a "practical match," he UNDERSTANDABLY assumed Pen was in agreement. We don't need Debling to be a bad guy for Pen to choose Colin. It can simply be that both interests are good men and Pen just LOVES Colin.
Edit: I also REALLY liked it when Debling said "I didn't ask if it was a possibility, I asked if you would like it be" because it shows that Debling really respects Pen & in a weird way that he is capable of trusting Pen. That comment centers around HER feelings (similar to when women say "I am not interested" when rejecting someone vs saying "I have a bf") and that even if Colin were to have feelings, if Pen doesn't reciprocate, then he can trust her to turn him down & not cheat. Again, Debling is a GREAT & honest man! It's simply that Pen wants love.
Now that the season has fully premiered and the hype is kind of dying down… I cannot even begin to express how appreciative I am and will be with the content you will be providing us 🙌🙌🙏🙏
Sammy, did you notice right before Colin exits the carriage while he's looking at her, he gives a subtle nod.
You can see his thought process and the conclusion all within 2 seconds. That was genius!
26:48 yes! this!! i also read this as him TRYING to get back to where he started the season off as--the most eligible bachelor of the season, this man who wants for nothing and cares for no one. BUT now that he has experienced what REAL INTIMACY feels like with penelope, this interaction at the brothel literally feels like nothing in comparison. and to me, it looks like he is realizing that IN REAL TIME at that moment!
ugh we love luke newton the actor that you areeeee
I love in the scene where colin is with his "friends" at the bar that he's touching his cut hand and presumably thinking about Pen.
My love and admiration for Luke Newton was already high but now it's another level. His acting this season and in the carriage scene in particular is PERFECTION
I agree that the flashback was strange and yes, because the scene itself could have been better. I think that until this moment Colin didn’t believe that Pen cared for him the way he cared for her… this flashback takes us to a place where he may have FELT that she did. He curled his hand around hers - or she curled it - and the looked into each others eyes. Connection. And we know Colin lives for connection, and this gives him enough info to go and find out.
I’m so grateful for your content but the world will wait for your contributions. Glad you’re living your life and putting yourself first. I have been there myself. It can feel uncomfortable to pace yourself but it’s worth it. ❤❤❤ I hope your sunburn heals “rather swiftly”
My weird fixation of the week: Everyone always points out that spinning swans in queens wig would not have been possible in time period. 😅 But clocks already existed in this period. Having something spin around literally needs nothing more than some clockwork.
For some stupid reason this drives me crazy every time its mentioned 😂
Agreed, clock and music boxes--spring loaded wind up mechanicals were definitely a thing.
They had some amazing automatons at the time they made for royalty!
Also, the Queen had a pineapple adorned with diamonds that she & lady Danbury were looking at. In the 1800s pineapples costed $8,000 for just 1. They didnt eat them, they just showed them off at rich ppl parties. If she cud have that flown to her, & paid for, then she cud surely have some1 make glass doves spin in her hair🤣
Thank you, I was looking for this

Perfection.
Take care of yourself! We’ll be here.
Luke's face in the carriage scene: You know, at the very first gut instinct watch, it made me cringe a little because IMO I didn't find it attractive. However, upon the second watch after the initial shock & subsequent rewatches (for science of course....) it did become sexier and I realized why: JUST like you said, it is so raw and real with no vanity. In REAL life, when ppl are intimate, it's not always attractive. In those moments, people are trying to experience amazing sensations & I feel like our advanced (vs other species), analytical brains need to turn off & just run on reflex & instinct. In an interview discussing their kissing, Nic said that what often feels good doesn't look good & they were initially told that it doesn't look good (which....omg...I think she gave away some serious info there...). So Luke gave us a moment of acting vulnerability - obviously nothing is happening for real but he is truly bringing the fantasy to our reality via the screen. It's the facial stroke of genius equivalent of the 2 fingers. S2E7 was phenomenal & re-watch worthy but this one just hit different, added by the astounding fact that everyone's clothes stayed on!
The realistic details sprinkled in this [fantasy] scene make it so tangible that I can be intimate with someone, watch the carriage scene the next day, & go right back at it, which is something I truly never thought was a possibility based on my own person. I may regret writing this sentence but this is a show that clearly caters to the female gaze & I feel this is a safe space to share our thoughts & experiences :)
"Carriage scene you will always be famous!" 😂😂😂 you speak my mind, I also gagged when I saw the look of Colin's face, gets better every time 😍 looking forward to your in-depth analysis ❤
I liked the Will and Alice subplot just fine, like Sammy. Then I realised that its relevance is mostly thematic, not necessarily narrative, and I appreciated it a lot more. The main theme of the season is "finding courage and your place in the world with the help of your significant other". We see it with Penelope and Colin, and Francesca and John; each couple having their special subtheme. Will and Alice represent the same theme, applied to an established, self-actualised couple. They find themselves in this unexpected, unfamiliar situation; their lives upended and having no say in the matter. They each have moments of struggle between their old and new dentities, like "this is not really us, what are we if not hard-working people, we don't belong in this world", and they help and reassure each other, and are patient and kind with one another. Finally, they overcome their struggle as a team, feeling confident and secure in their new position. In my opinion, it's a very efective and efficient arc that fits in very well with the main theme of the season.
thank you for putting so much of your time and dedication into these analyses, even if it's not your favorite couple you do an unbiased analysis and still appreciate the work of the actors who work so hard to make this series happen 🥺 and when you don't like something you give your opinion respectfully and is not simply baseless hate, I appreciate your work this fandom really needs more creators like you ❤ Stay healthy, take care of yourself, I wish you a speedy recovery 🫂
The brothel scene with Colin actually makes me believe the theory that Colin is demisexual. Once he’s realized he’s in love with Penelope, nothing else compares. He even tells her so after their first time because Colin is a lover boy, he wants the romance and love and connection and that makes everything that happens between them so much more meaningful to him. He loves her and so nothing could entice him but her and he realizes it in that scene. It’s a struggle for him because he is trying to be someone different to be what society expects, but he’s unhappy with that.
Yay it's here! The look is on point by the way.
The carriage scene will always be legendary.
Polin - Luke and Nicola were amazing!
Sam, thanks for all the love and appreciation towards this season...
Looking forward to see you better --- the sunburn looked painful...
As a lady with ADHD myself, I completely understand and relate to you. Sometimes I am up and everywhere and then all of a sudden I am literally disassociating and I forgot to eat and drink water the whole day. During the times when I feel out of my mind I really move to the things that calm me and I can focus on like reading or Bridergton. I will literally yap about it forever, so watching your videos really makes me happy that someone else loves and enjoys this as much as I do. It also feels great to know that I can also relate to when it comes to ADHD and how it effects us. :)
Polin is my favourite couple. I wish they keep constant in scene on the next seasons & their chemistry keep getting better.

As others have said, the flashback chosen is to show Colin realizing that there is a chance Penelope feels the same way. It was a time he felt cared for and received a compliment for something he holds dear and thus private from others. He loves Penelope and wants her to be happy, which he states under the willow tree (the only plainly honest thing he says in that scene really). Up to this moment he thinks Pen wants to be with Debling and knows he will be a good husband to her; and due to his insecurity of feeling unworthy of love unless he’s useful plus knowing Debling can provide her with a better life by society’s standards than him, Colin believes there is no reason why Penelope would love him or why he would be worthy of being loved by her.
In previous seasons, Pen has never been discreet and her love for Colin was spelled out plainly on her face, but for Colin that’s just the way Pen has always looked at him it was normal and he had no idea she was looking at him with heart eyes. But in this moment, the way she looks at him is different/special because this whole season he has seen her look at him in so many different ways including how decided she is on choosing Debling when she went off to dance with him instead of talking to him and figuring out what he wanted to say to her. The light burning out reminded him of that moment he cut his hand and reflect on what he felt at that moment, the intimacy/connection of holding her hand, being cared for with no expectation of reciprocity, the unprompted compliment, and importantly the look of possible affection beyond friendship. He doesn’t realize she’s always looked at him with love in her eyes until she tells him she’s been in love since they met. But in this moment all he needs is the hope of a possibility and urgency of time to suss out how strong that possibility might be or at least detour her away from Debling to buy himself more time in order to run to the ball.
Are there other ways that a flashback montage would’ve accomplished essentially the same plot wise? Yes of course and the reasoning for it would’ve made more sense with audiences as a whole, but nothing is accidental with this show and especially this season. For the reason stated above, a flashback montage wouldn’t have made sense for Colin because he didn’t see the love in her eyes bc for him that was always just how she looked at him and he was already aware he had feelings for her so he didn’t have to have flashbacks of moments between them at this time. What he needed in order to act was the chance that she might have feelings for him and it’s only this season that things have not been the same Pen-Colin dynamic he was used to making it the focus of asking himself if their friendship has changed for her as it has for him.
I think they were trying for a mirroring effect with Colin and Eloise this season that people aren't picking up. They each decided "if you can't beat them, join them" and tried to pretend to be like their more conventional siblings (Eloise like Daphne and Colin like Anthony). The personas don't fit and they eventually grow into a fuller more rounded version of themselves instead, but the pretense is hilariously uncomfortable while it lasts. Eloise is pretending to be interested in the marriage mart and Cressida and fashion, but can't keep it up. Colin is pretending to be a careless, rakish ladies man and "man about town" instead of an emotional foodie with a Penelope fixation, but can't keep that up, either. Even to the point of hanging out with the Lord squad, drinking and whoring, ick. He hates it too. That's the point. Him with Fife is like Eloise with Cressida. They just can't make themselves like these ridiculous games the others play. So, Colin finally quits and goes after what he really wants, ton be damned. Pretending he's not in love with Penelope is making both of them miserable and may ruin her life forever, trapping her in a loveless marriage of convenience he can never save her from. Pretending that Eloise is a typical debutante is driving her nuts and she's eventually going to have to forgive Pen to get both of their lives back on track. I personally think that maybe Eloise has been in love with Penelope this whole time too, and that's why the whistledown reveal last season broke her heart so deeply. I don't know if it will ever be addressed as such, but she planned for them to be old maids together forever...? She acts like a jealous girlfriend about the time Pen spends with Colin, even when she's with them. It kinda adds up. It might not be a physical love, like Colin's, but it may be a queer romantic attachment of some kind (demisexual, ace, etc.). If Benedict is still figuring out his sexuality years into the game, then we can forgive Eloise for not realizing this either. It makes Colin's line later this season about her never having been in love hit her differently, too. Oh, what he doesn't know... Someone else, please notice how they position Eloise in relation to Colin and Penelope and mirrors this season. She's always there, just outside the frame!
46:55 OMG literal genius! i totally agree! they could've had him looking at the candle to spark the flashback to the broken candle tending wound moment, and THEN done like a whole MONTAGE flashing to every moment they've ever had in this season AND in previous seasons, and then EVEN BETTER---the moment where he holds her hand in season 2, MATCH CUT to the moment he watches penelope take debling's hand before they dance to "happier than ever," THEN THAT driving colin to get up from his seat because oh HELL no is he letting penelope be taken away by debling. the only person that should ever be touching her, nonetheless in the VICINITY OF HER should be him. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO ICONIC AND NOW I SEE IT SO CLEARLY IN MY HEADDDD
I actually I’m glad they didn’t do that. Only the present mattered to him at that point. I like what she said to him in the church when he felt bad for not “seeing” her sooner. There should not look backwards with regret. The present and future is all that should matter. I’m glad that once he realized she had feelings for him, he move forward without looking back.
Flashback: The best I can assume is that this was where they want us to know that Colin knew he felt a romantic thought toward her from that scene. He is thinking about their future together. She does care for me. She was looking at me the way I was looking at her. My feelings could be reciprocated. I have to know. There was also that subtle hand holding part and all of it could communicate his desire to be cared for by Pen. But did the scene actually convey all that to me? Not really… I have to dig for it. I think it was an intentional choice to have no Colin flashbacks to S1-2. Not sure why except for them to want to leave Colin clueless about all that or to convey that wasn’t S3 mature love yet.
First of all, as a autoinmune ill/ chronic pain girl myself, I hope you're feeling better and take all the time me you need to feel physically and emotionally better ❤
I LOVE your analysis, it's like putting words to my emotions and feelings even when I'm not even sure what's what I'm thinking 😂
And I concur with you in that carriage scene! It was perfection to the point of being even a little uncomfortable to watch because of the amount of feelings that my mind it's not able to process 😂
Thank you for all your analysis! Very much appreciated! ❤❤❤
Episode 4 is my favorite out of the entire season/series because of the carriage scene. I’ve rewatched that scene an embarrassing amount of times but it’s just. That. Good.
34:32 GIRL SAME. lmao im realizing more and more that the people that love polin either IDENTIFY with them OR they are their types 😂 cause same! i am partly both penelope and colin, but im also SO attracted to both penelope and colin for their character as well as their dripping good looks ofc hehe
I wish you a speedy recovery, Sammy! And as much as we love your videos, we want you to be happy and we are ready to wait for your content! Don’t give all of yourself to your work. It is a lesson that I too am learning.
Re the flashback scene that they chose, I thought that they used that scene because Colin remembers Pen’s reaction to when he curled his fingers around hers and thinks maybe she was as affected by the intimacy of that small moment as he was and maybe just maybe she reciprocates his feelings for her.
Until this point, the only thing that seemed to be stopping Colin from going after her is him not knowing if she likes him back and he seems to take courage from that memory that maybe he has a chance after all and that spurs him into action.
Love this breakdown!!! You take care of yourself, sweets. I’m so thankful for the time and care you take to give the BEST Polin insights. You have a PhD in Polin and I 👏🏼 AM 👏🏼 HERE👏🏼 FOR 👏🏼 IT.
When Colin said "Can the carriage driver not keep on driving?" He WINKED. He f*ckin' WINKED at Pen 🔥 🫠 Am I really the only one who noticed it?
It took me a while to notice it but ever since I did I CANNOT unsee it 😳
Luke Newton slayed that carriage scene from the beginning to the end 😎
King of facial expressions and sexy ideas (fingers 👌 🔥🤭)
But god, that raw expression when Pen's hand is brushing his hair/face, that was glorious.
I cannot describe how much I love it and how hot it was! 🥵 I couldn't agree more with you with everything you said about how Luke slayed that scene and how it was a game changer in the way you would see him. Because boy, I fell hard too 🔥 and so on point with Colin's character!
and Nicola's moans on top of that made the scene glorious and unforgettable ✨️
I think Colin flashes back to the hand cutting scene because one as you mentioned, he’s in the same place where it happened and two it was the first time he remembered consciously feeling a spark with Penelope.
35:38 I love how he is on verge of death and cut to Penelope looking pretty princess. The way I ijobled. 💀😭
Flashback: I think the hand cut scene was Colin realizing how caring and nurturing Pen is. How gentle her love is...perfect for a wife and mother of his children. It was that moment he realized he wanted to marry her.
Love your commentary and insights. Would like to add one of my own. Most think Colin fell for Penelope with the first kiss and yes he did come to a full realization of his feelings then. The scene of him reflecting on the cut hand brings forth the Eros and Psyche myth in their relationship development...that is when the "arrow" of love first pierced his heart.
I cannot stop watching the carriage scene either! I am unhiiiiiinged for Colin & Pen!!!! Like it is unhealthy how many times i've watched this season...
I think the reason they used that clip from the office and the candle is cause it was in the same office where they had that emotional moment of holding hands. Esp when the idea that Pen is always there for him, like tending to his cut. I also think it’s a realization he was helping her find a husband so now he gotta rush to ruin it lol. It made so more sense but do think they could have added a couple “unseen” clips to culminate in his realization he loves her.
27:27 OK HEAR ME OUT! i tooootally get what you are saying cause same! literally FINE? he is so crazy for that.. but someone, i think on reddit, reasoned it out that it's because he is such a people pleaser, he didn't want to offend them by simply leaving! another example of this is when he pulls away from marina when she was trying to entrap him!! he was like "i'm sorry did i offend you?" so i like the take of him saying fine just so he doesn't make the workers feel bad 😂 we love our sweet sensitive boy
Sammy , the saviour has arrived.
Now that S3 is over, I am looking forward for your content you have stored in us for future.
PS- You look gorgeous ✨💗💗
Can't resist mentioning this - I was just watching a remix to "This Love" from Bonjourtele and I noticed Pen walked AWAY from Colin so many times in the first half of season 3. At the garden party, the red ball, under the willow tree, at the hot air balloon etc. And I don't have time, but I am guessing if someone looked back to season 1 and 2 it would be a lot of more of Colin walking away from Pen or more half and half. Wonder if that was intentional.
Thank you for being so vulnerable about what you’ve been going through. It’s so refreshing for a content creator to open up about mental health without it being contrived or an sponsored ad placement. Praying you feel better! btw your analyses are amazing (obvi)
I was really confused about the hand cutting scene being the flashback scene as well. Luke even said in an interview that the kissing scene was when Colin realized that there was something more between Pen and Colin. It wasn't until I read the book and understood maybe the editors used that scene as a callback to the books. In the book, Colin is totally aloof to Pen until the hand cutting scene. He explicitly notices how bright her eyes were, and even wondered himself why he never noticed Pen, why no one else has noticed her. That was when he started having feelings for her. It doesn't quite make sense in the show, but it makes sense if it was a nod to the book.
Thank you. You're finding the words for my own feelings regarding this couple. Plus you tuned out the doubters for me. Thank you once more and I am looking forward for you next video.
I think your breakdowns are spot on and I really enjoy listening to your thoughts on this season. As weird as the brothel scenes are, I think the one in this episode is also focusing on both women kissing him and him almost trying to confirm that the kiss with Pen was different as he isn't into these at all anymore. Keep doing what you're doing!!
Not me squealing with you for this carriage scene 🥰 what a lovely breakdown I’m soo looking forward to your carriage deep dive !
Thank goodness you're taking your time to work on Polin content - the perfect slow release drug to keep me hooked on Bridgerton until the next season info comes through 😂
I cannot wait for your full carriage scene video! For me, it is the absolute best scene in all of Bridgerton and a true masterpiece. The first few times I watched it, it made me cry. It’s just so dang beautiful and well done!!
Another thing is that while i like debling and im glad you admit he is not a good fit for her. I hate the fact that no one is addresses that this man plans to leave her with a massive estate to run and his family while most likely leaving her carrying baby/babies. He isnt just around the corner but halfway around the world. Then is butt hurt that she has feelings for another. He is basically looking for a live in servant with him off doing his thing. And who is to say that he isnt having it off with other people.
I think debling is a great character just wish he understood more of what he was asking of his future wife
💯agree!!
Love the inclusion of Colin’s O face because that was one of the hottest parts of that entire scene for me 🥵
What a beautiful review summary of Ep 4....truly speaking, when I rewatch this episode, I directly jump to the carriage scene and some context before that. This scene is splendid in every sense❤. Both Nicola's and Luke's acting in this scene brought us all onto a different level of love. What a chemistry ❤❤ thank you Sammy 😊😊
I totally flash forward to all the Polin scenes 😂
Such great analysis!!! Always love listening to your yap session like a podcast while I work.
Polin wasn't my favourite couple initially (I had the hots for Frannie & Michael) because I finished their book & its so good. But thanks to Luke & Nicola's acting I was even more sucked in as compared to the previous 2 seasons. I ended up so absorbed into this pair of couple, that I am watching all the youtube vids and reading so many fanfiction. 😂
I’m sitting here laughing watching you watch the carriage scene with your hand over your mouth. That was exactly my reaction and I messaged all my friends who hadn’t gotten there yet. I said when you get to the end of episode four you’re gonna have your hand over your mouth, gasping.😂😮😮😮
Same here, also covering my mouth as if i haven’t watched this scene already 😂
The “oh my” at Colin’s facial expression just makes me giggle. I had the same reaction, trust me.
I think the flashback to the hand cut moment Is because that scene is such a turning point for these two in so many ways. Suddenly, the tables have turned and while Colin has previously been in the power position with the lessons, and Pen has been vulnerable. Now, Colin is the one exposed and vulnerable, and Pen has all the power. Honestly, Colin doesn't seem to like it. He lashes out and is upset. Understandably, Penelope shouldn't have read his journal and she knows she shouldn't. But it becomes not so much about the journal as the way Colin is suddenly exposed to
Judgement. His true self, his real thoughts, are in someone else's hands. And I think we all know how terrifying that can be. When he cuts his hand, that vulnerability is made tangible. He is literally bleeding, he has an open wound. But it's Pen who tends him, cares for him, pieces him back together when he's hurt and lost. This scene brings their relationship to a new level, and is absolutely defining for them. It's such a great metaphor for all they have yet to do in their own life and with each other, but for the closeness and connection they already have.
I hope you'll recover nicely and quickly from your sunburnt
I was worried when I saw how red you are. Take care 🤗 thank you again for sharing your reviews and recaps with us. I have no one whom I can talk about Bridgerton with, so I'm glad you are here 🥹
I completely agree with your analysis of the carriage scene🤯 It's absolutely incredible!!
The reason why I think they had Colin remember the cutting hand scene is because that was the first real moment that he felt something between him & Pen. He was struggling with the thought that she didn't feel the same way he did, & then he remembered that moment thinking, "Wait, maybe there is something between us, maybe she will want to be with me." & he got confidence from that.
I love that Cressida spots Colin about to make a scene and specifically points it out to Eloise. Because that way Eloise knows like, hey Penelope was definitely not the one pursuing here. Your brother is the one who ruined her engagement and chased her. Otherwise in that argument in the hallway, Eloise might have blamed Pen more. If she thought Pen was the pursuer, it would have been worse I think.
I also love that Cressida has Penelope and Colin clocked so hard with the Eros and Psyche reference. She’s supposed to be unobservant but she either did some real quick social calculations from her previous knowledge of the two of them or she’s suspected there was something there for a bit.
💯 with you on the carriage scene. Iconic. Can't wait to hear more from you about it
The carriage scene is iconic...
I recall your comment on the ring and his hand. I paid special attention to that.
You are not alone. My ADHD and mental health issues manifests in the same ways. Take care of yourself. Your content is fantastic and worth the wait!🤗
YES!!!!! Thank you!!! I was thinking the exact same thing when Colin was supposedly reminiscing about Pen and they only showed that hant wrap scene when they had many moments in season 1+2, they couldve used!!!!! It was such a disappointment and lackluster!! it felt they wanted to rush it!! I do love penelope and colin alot!! i think their chemistry and the fact that they knew each other for so long kind of topped them as best couple over the others! I absolutely love Kate and Anthony but something about these 2 on screen that just makes it so fun to watch. I think those scenes with Colin and those women were all unnesseary and puts him to be just like his brothers rather than different and as his own person! Its complete cringe!
Apparently the showrunner jess wanted Colin to be a virgin, he was written that way. The studio didn't think it was sexy enough.. and they did re shoots. That is why the brothel scene's are are kinda different.
omg i just finished writing a reply saying exactly this! lol. Some casual viewers said that it gave "ex-bf who starts DMing you after he sees u with a new guy" vibes, which is icky. So i think if they showed flashbacks from S1 & S2, it would INCREASE the stakes & show the audience that he's losing a good person he has had SOME sort of feelings for for YEARS.
@@ImkeFluyt that explains so much! i remember in someone else's reaction i commented that Colin's flirting in ep 1 made me go "Colin what are you doing???" because I understood Colin's character & arc of trying to put up a new front. But when ep 2 happened, my thought was actually "The Show, what are you doing???" I deadass thought they were including it because someone thought they needed a steamy scene by ep 2 at the latest. And I also wondered whether they were showing us this to "prove" that Colin has experience so that his steamy scenes would make sense - ie, not being awkward, being actually sexy, & Pen finishing.
However, I think Bowen's way to go isn't entirely correct either because again, we as the viewers want his scenes with Pen to be goooood. The diary would've covered him there because you could always communicate that Colin was at least curious & that's how he lost his virginity. Then Colin being Colin, he could either be confused as to why he doesn't feel anything afterwards so he continues having flings trying to find that special bond. Or he starts having feelings & the countess or whatever sorta tells him to stop being a child & get over that mindset.
Edited for more thoughts
Apparently no one survived the Northwest Passage until 1905 so Debling, who was looking for it, might not have made it back to London!
So true! And also the great auk became extinct.
I can listen to your analyses over and over. They are so accurate, fun, and insightful. I am glad you didn't understand the flashback to the broken lamp scene before Colin goes to the ball. I was so confused by that. I am glad I am not the only one.
What make this scene iconic to me is that I would have ever imagined that Colin and Pen could be so sexy.
As someone on the asexual spectrum i don't feel what most of y'all feel during the sex scenes, i much prefer the story elements related to them, but out of every scene included, the ones between polin are my favorite. They're cute and wholesome and show just how much they mean to each other. How much they love each other. It's just cute. Especially them laughing at the end of the carriage scene, it's just cute. In relation to sex scenes i also prefer when its more implied, such as Anthony and Kate more cuddling together, talking, bantering, I like the cute shit. There's so many ways to do intimacy other then just the sex. Like a bath scene, the main pair taking care of each other, washing the other, that could probably be cute *and* give some nice eyecandy for the majority who'd want that. And it'd be different.
It seems to me that thoughtful and creative minded people always live on the edge ,somewhat, always trying to balance those creative juices with every day life. I can tell you, from personal experience, and a life lived, that it is important to give yourself grace. You are a very smart and intuitive woman. I always look forward to your new videos.
lmao I also absolutely loved being wrong about the pitbull song, like I was so locked in instantly when i heard it. thank you again for your videos and take care of yourself!
The past few days has been a dearth of new & awesome Bridgerton content. So regardless of what you say at the beginning of the video, I'm really grateful that you've released it and given us some more insightful opinions to ponder during our own private watches.
I love what you said about Colin lacking ego. That’s one of the things that really puts me off of Simon. Especially comparing the too intimacy scenes when they are standing there looking at their girl and taking their pants off. Simon gives me such ick. But somehow Luke managed to make a face that showed both confidence and humility. Like maybe he is just so focused on her that he isn’t worried about what she looks like? Idk but I just love his face in that moment. Simon I kind of want to punch 😂 and just the ease they have during that scene! How they just start giggling at the end. It’s so sweet and adorable. Maybe that’s just me cuz I want that kind of relationship and I have an ex that was more like Simon in that he got so serious and then would be offended if I got awkward and silly. Especially at the beginning. Idk I just love them 🥹 can’t wait for your video on ep 5 😭 but take your time cuz you gotta take care of yourself girl!!! 🫶🏼❤️🩹
Thank you, Sammy!! Carriage Scene is totally on top of my list as best scenes in Bridgerton. However, Part 2 shredded me to pieces so I don't know how to function anymore LOL.
Please take your time to feel better! We will always be here! 🤍
I am sorry you have been having challenges. Your poor hands and arms look so sore. I hope you start to feel better soon. Good for you for realizing you needed more balance and making the necessary changes. I love your content and am happy to wait for it. Plus, it will keep fresh Bridgerton content coming for me to consume. I was watching your character analysis of Colin and my husband was sitting beside me and it piqued his interest so he started watching with me. Take care of yourself!
Thank you ❤ I get you, I see you. This show took me out of sanity and brought me here, and I am grateful 😊
i'm so excited for the upcoming videos! I'm always so happy to watch your videos. it honestly just makes me so happy
Putting yourself first is the key , I hope you can find balance and happiness in every way you search for…. But I can’t wait to hear what you think about ep 4 cause I loooove your point of view on stuff , you are capable of putting into words my toughts in a strange but fascinating way 🍓 l love your content very much 🍓
2:40 yes work-life balance!! seriously, that post-part 2 release was rough! i'm glad you took some time to recalibrate and recenter yourself! i also hyperfixate pretty badly, so after a month of Polin brain rot anticipation, i also struggled a bit to kind of bring myself back to reality and to my own life! like i frequently find myself kind of, like in the middle of my day, stopping and thinking "aw.. i miss them :(" LIKE IS THAT NORMAL??
Wonderful video! You are a delight to watch. Can’t wait for all your videos that are coming. ❤ I hope your sunburn heals soon you poor thing x
the piece inside the queen's wig could have been powered by a winding mechanism. Watches and music boxes would have been powered in the same manner.
You slay at Bridgerton content and analysis! But girl, please take care of yourself. Those burns look super painful! Sorry, I’m a nurse by trade. Hope they heal and you feel better soon! 🤗
3:33 I am glad you shared all you did in the front. For a number of reasons. 1) Is that while sometimes when you get into those crazy, not good for you, overwhelmed with personal-mentalhealth balance zones it can be really difficult for you to really feel like anyone would understand how much the events and the sequence they decided to happen in has severely affected you, there are people out there that understand you. And when some people near never really expect it until it's said out loud and someone else is like "yeah. okay." Because well we all know other people have ADHD; what that manifest like in your life, we all also understand is so completely different but then at the same time the experience can be shared. So thanks for sharing. Having an official diagnosis is mostly good for allowing you to listen to people with some good reference frames. 2) sounds a little like MS, but also you just said a lot of 'immune' so it could be like a bunch of stuff that fit. But I'm sorry your skin decided to bubble off. (May sound a little like there was some 'retaliation fun', but I think you're doing what you can to find a good balance for you).
10:00 yeah maybe like him reading a passage where he says he misses Penelope...or Wondering why she hasn't written back. Hoping she's ok... Something that lets us know he had feelings for her before the kiss and now realizing what those feelings really were
I related the comment about her freckles to when Pen is reading Collin's journal and he talks about tracing the freckles on the woman's skin. It made me wonder if he was unconsciously picking women that reminded him of Pen.
So I have a response to the the "goofy" candle smashing scene. My whole position is that colin can't catch a clue to save his life - and you know in cartoons when the use the one light going out and the character gaining alight bulb because they finally have bright idea💡 - that's what they did in this goofy ass scene to give us the one flashback of him remember Pen (pre-kiss) giving him bedroom eyes and him catching a clue that maybe she does have for him.
love the new work life balance, we admire compassion for yourself !! take care
Waiting for update with the Polin Relationship Analysis for season 3..
Im so excited for all ur S3 content. I love ur appreciation.
Not 1 day has passed and i havent watched part of S3 & or review content. I applaude u for pacing urself 👏 and striving for life a balance, Something i have not yet been able to achive.
After Debling has ask for her hand I think Pen has this doubt due to the last ball & Colin wanting to ask her something.
I’m so glad Debling was a catch- handsome, kind, interesting, invested BUT he never once called her anything but Miss Featherington. This polite distancing cannot be dismissed as proof of where his heart is and it’s not with Pen
The reason there wasn’t much Kate and Anthony is because Jonathan Bailey was also filming fellow travelers and wicked during this time.
I love your recaps ❤ Hope you'll feel better soon, so sorry that you got sunburned😢 Thank you for this video and the content you're still working on. Take as much time as you need and take care of yourself 😊❤
Sadly you have been at this for years and now that you are getting the attention which you deserve you hit burn out. Its happens more than you realise. Im happy to have found you and i am happy to wait on your content. A happy you is brilliant in your content. Xx
I agree the carriage scene was soooo good. Definitely my second favourite scene after the first kiss. It was acted perfectly, even better than the scene in the book. Loved it!!
Yay! Thank you for the reupload!! Appreciate your hard work!! ❤❤❤
Sammy, i'm hoping your getting more balance in life and taking care of yourself. Always make yourself first , not the channel. 😘 love your channel!
At the library, Portia doesn’t even trust Pen to say the right thing to Debling so she just sucks it up and speaks for her “we can’t make heads or tails of it, would you be so kind as to please explain!” I DIED! Portia seeing Pen with a suitor is not going to MESS this up.
