I think A Quiet Place would be an amazing show. Having each episode deal with a different story. It could take place anywhere, at anytime, and with anyone. Different writers/directors per episode.
I agree
honesty making interesting film length episodes is harder than you think. I can’t even imagine trying to script write day one. Making a series would most likely ruin the quality of a quiet place
that’s what i thought! we need more of these kind of movies. i thought it was gonna be about the monster and everything, but then i realize it’s more about the characters having to face them and their lives. i love it
Like last of us, how the backdrop of alien invasion impacts lives of people, struggles etc
I thought the samething. With real writes & actors.
And not these DEI ret_rds!
The fact the cat never made a noise KILLED me!
I literally could not let that go! Being held in water running from aliens... not a peep! 😂 WTH. Like Kathy Bates in misery. I hated it.
Yes!! The whole movie and not One meow??!! Come on. lol.
People keep saying this, but it DID meow, several times. It meowed and scratched at the door of the theater when it ran away from Lupita Nyongo and the monster was outside, that's what drew the monster's attention. And at the end when it was in the water with the guy swimming to the boat there were definitely meowing sound effects. They weren't super loud yowling, but there were definitely little meows over the music and water.
my cat almost never meows
cats are HARDCORE survivors, if they detect even a slightest danger they wont make noise. so idk why u r confused
Spoilers! We literally learn nothing about the invasion or monsters. We already had a day one scene in the second film's opening. This movie was completely unnecessary.
To be honest, you’re not wrong.
Yeah you definitely should legitimize a sequels existence by adding or unveiling more to the plot. To just present a movie that rehashes old events is like a hamster on a wheel, even if it's entertaining. A sequel should always bring more story to the table. Otherwise, it appears like a cash grab.

*SPOILERS*
Having just gotten out of the movie, I’m going to disagree with your point on Joseph Quinn’s character. His parents being overseas is only a small part of it. During the scene in Sam’s apartment, he also mentions going to NYC for law school and says something along the lines of “It’s the one thing I was meant to do,” which implies that either he dedicated his whole life to it, or he comes from a family of lawyers. When it’s ripped away from him in seconds, he feels like he has nothing left to live for until stumbling upon Frodo by pure happenstance. I found his journey of finding reasons to keep going, even during the end of the world, really resonant.
Totally agree. They both gave each other what they needed, Sam’s last few wonderful moments in the city she loved and Eric’s hope and survival. It was beautiful.
I actually read that line, the "it's the one thing I was meant to do" line as meaning he's been a screw up his whole life, and this is the one and only thing he was supposed to do and now it's down the drain. I think either way, his character has a bit more depth and I enjoyed Quinn's performance.
Yes! And Eric seems like not the law kind of guy. He's kind and wears his emotions on his sleeve
@@lisac4215 I got that as well. I relate to his characterization, so he felt pretty compelling to me as well. And the scene when Eric was safe in the water and Sam was in the water ... I couldn't stop crying. And the scene with the written note had me sobbing.
I agree. For me it presented an interesting question of what does someone do if their whole purpose for living disappears. Everything that he had based his reality on was gone and he needed to find a new purpose.
Till this day, I still feel A Quiet Place 2 Day 1 opening scene is one of the best sequences in a horror movie ever.

Djimon Hounsou Doesn’t get enough love. He’s fantastic in everything he’s in from Constantine to gladiator to this. I want to see him as the focus of a movie
Yesssssssssss same!
That guy is a friggin legend. He elevates everything he's in. Yes gladiator and Constantine was better with him in it. He also did a cameo in guardians of galaxy and he's even done TV show. He played a scientist in Wayward Pines season 2 where he looked after the cryo pods waking up every hundred years to check on things and watch humanity devolve into monsters. He did some serious acting there weeping and narrating his inner turmoil. Seriously good stuff. 🥺
Blood diamond was his story, right? Like I know Leonardo DiCaprio was there. But it was about him right?

Question for all: Did anyone else feel frustrated with the inconsistency of how sensitive the monsters were to sound? For example when the nurse manages to successfully turn of the generator with no monsters showing up, but then his shirt rips and it’s slashing time? Or in the final chase scene when Frodo is being carried down the pier by his butler, the creatures hear a can rattling over the sound of car alarms and glass and metal getting smashed and all of them turn and bolt towards them? I also noticed immediately that creatures seemingly don’t react at all to sounds caused by their own kind, which would be fine if it was explained but it is never addressed
Nothing makes sense, even the whole story
Couldnt agree more. I was asking the same questions the whole movie. Sometimes they could seemingly echolocate like a bat with pinpoint accuracy while other times they just seems completely blind, flailing at any dumb noise they heard.
Also, they could traverse the space to land on earth (while blind, but whatever) but couldn't overcome a canal of sea water.
Some just hear better than others 😂
That is an explanation that could work, there’s been nothing so far saying every single one of the aliens were the exact same when it comes to their hearing.
@@TweezerShred Actually fair point, maybe some of them need hearing aids hahaha

I think you're underselling Joseph Quinn.. I cared deeply about his character because he brilliantly conveyed who that person was through his performance alone, without any need for superfluous backstory. Both his and Lupita Nyong'o's performances were brilliant and perfectly complimented each other. They're what made this film special. For me, far more so than the monster set-pieces.
6:30 Great review as always Chris. However, I'd argue that even tho the family dynamic is universally relatable, Joseph Quinn's character is super relatable too from the perspective of someone living alone, away from home, seeking opportunity in the US only to have it all stripped away.
Here’s what happened on day - they learnt to be quiet in about 15 minutes

Exactly! They DID NOT explain that
@@tbountybay3080 What do they need to explain? You see giant monsters attacking sirens and screaming people and NOT attacking shell-shocked quiet people, you'd probably figure out pretty quick to be quiet.

Honestly, I liked how subtle the characterisation of Joseph Quinn's character is.
He's wearing this big, ill-fitting suit in the big city, saying that he's studying law because it's what he's SUPPOSED to do.
Then, at the end of the film, we discover that he's secretly a talented magician with great confidence on stage.
I like that the film never explicity states this, but we can infer that he's always wanted to be a magician but his family pressured him to America to pursue a steady career as a lawyer.
He feels very lost in his life, and now that he has recognised the apocalypse is beginning, he feels that all paths for him are coming to an dead end. This is why he just decides to join Sam in her simple quest for some pizza.

This movie was hot garbage. It wasn't "day 1" as advertised, it was a bunch of scared people trying to be quiet for 2 hrs. Where's the explosive chaos of an alien invasion?? It was over in ten minutes. Idk if you guys have low standards or if you're doing mental gymnastics to try to convince yourself it was ok. Huge disappointment.
I kept dosing off. Their was a group of like 5 teens that actually got up during the jazz club scene and started yelling about how boring it was and they left. Normally that kind of behavior would piss me off but I honestly sympathized with them.
If it were any longer I would have walked out myself. We were sold an alien invasion blockbuster and they gave us a pg-13 character study. Watching everyone try to intellectualize it as if were some deep moving story has been pretty comical as well. Call it what it is. A shit movie.
@@alethiamillner5603 went with high expectation with my wife. Both of us role our eyes at that stage scene 😂
Almost like ppl have different opinions on movies, strange I know
I maintain they should have waited to make this until after A Quiet Place Part III because of Part II's cliffhanger ending, but I'm still excited to see this. Lupita especially is a modern acting legend and I can't wait to see her in another horror movie after she blew me away with Us.
I agree completely.
She is an excellent actress !
They're still making part 3 to continue the story. This is a standalone adjacent story about the beginning.
Part 3 filming was affected by Covid
@@jonfreeman9682 no shit sherlock, he is not saying that. It's super weird to get a spin off when the main series isn't finished yet and left on a cliffhanger. Movie buffs know but as regular viewers it's confusing.
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm surprised that Stuckmann, the number one fan of Alien, wants to know more about the purpose of these invading aliens. What did the alien want in the Alien movies? We assumed it was like a shark: It moves, it eats, and it reproduces. What is the motivation of a regular ant? I'm sure they have one, but we don't need to know it to understand the problem of them infesting your house. Threats in nature don't need a purpose. The drama comes from how this problem affects the characters beyond the primal instinct to stay alive.
I mean, you kind of need to know what the ants in your house are going after in order to stop the infestation. Carpenter ants are eating your wood floors. Regular ants are going after the blueberry that fell behind your stove. If you don’t deal with those sources, you’re just going to keep getting ants.
@@eyespy3001Not every story told needs to be a “save the world by defeating the aliens” plot. Sometimes, just watching interesting characters in interesting situations battle to just survive is enough.
I thought it was obvious seeing how they arrived, they are a bio weapon. The purpose of which is to get the population of the planet to the point. They can no longer fight back or killed off entirely making the planet ripe for the taking .
For me, an alien in space wanting to kill you is easier to roll with than aliens invading earth (their intention is more interesting because it can be more than just killing). Having two previous movies creating the mystery surrounding the creatures and their invasion also creates an expectation of a reveal of at least something when this movie takes place at the beginning. It being a third movie of a franchise also adds to the expectation. I still enjoyed it, but I couldn't help wanting to know more.
@@cokemachine62590 Sure. Agreed. However, if you make a _series_ of movies set in the same universe, in the same timeline, at some point, retreading the same plot is going to get REALLY boring. That’s why the Predator series hasn’t really produced anything good after the second movie.

My personal theory is that the Death Angels are a vanguard for an alien invasion. Animals you just release to shatter your opponent’s defense then swoop in for an easy win.

Not aliens but Dead Set is a UK production where the contestants in a season of Big Brother are completely oblivious to the fact that there is a zombie apocalypse going on. It is very good.

5:36 slight spin on this that already exists if you haven't seen it, there's a mini series from 2008 called 'Dead Set' where a zombie outbreak happens during a season of Big Brother. Sort of like what you wanted, a group of people who are cut off from the world because of the show trying to figure out what's happening
Didn’t expect to see you here
I saw this mini series many years ago and loved it. It's really interesting.
Dead Set does not get enough credit. It is one of my all time favorites and i find it genuinely scary.
Nothing wrong with wanting to know more about the creatures but the unknown is what makes it scary and unnerving. Knowing to much about them takes away the mystery of them. Look at the Aliens franchise, it was horrible when they gave us the backstory of Xenos. To me i like the “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality. This movie is a solid prequel that’s falls just a tad below the other ones. They played it safe and kept what works. I think it should be one more to where it’s still has the same tone but have it more action packed. In other words we get the last movie to be what Aliens was to Aliens. We get to see the military learn their weakness and fightback while still maintaining the horror elements…..like Aliens.
Hey don't knock aliens. I loved Prometheus and Covenant when they gave us so much backstory on the aliens and how it started from the black goo. But I know some fans didn't like Prometheus as there was no aliens so Ridley Scott added lots of aliens in Covenant but for some reason not enough fans showed up. A new alien movie is coming out so let's support it or Disney is pulling the plug on the franchise.
@@jonfreeman9682 We shouldn’t support something just to support it but yes the new movie looks good. I just hope it delivers and don’t have woke moments in it. Covenant and Prometheus are good Syfy movies but horrible Aliens movies if that makes sense.
@@johnnyappleseed8127 Totally agree. Bob Iger said in a recent call he's excited for the new alien movie coming out but will review the entire movie slate so movies TV shows and properties that don't make money they will not put anymore money making them to turn Disney around. So this could be alien's last dance if we don't support it. Alien has always been niche so it doesn't make much money.

Spoiler alert:
Have to disagree about Joseph Quinn's character Eric, it's not just that his parents are overseas, it's that he's an exchange student and whether it's innate or just this situation, he suffers extreme anxiety and loneliness. To say he isn't characterized is wrong, it's just that you don't have backstory for him, a character can have personality, layers, dimension without you knowing their life story and whole emotional core of this movie is that Sam and Eric are able to help each other overcome their flaws, she helps him with his anxiety attacks, he helps her live and feel again and they both fill a sort of lonely void for each other. Sadly ill be sticking to reddit for spoiler-free reviews because I am pissed at paying $20 for this movie
Try Dan Murrell. He's genuine but fair, he's up front when he hates/loves something but he never does rage bait and always looks at things from a plot, characters, and pacing perspective
The Walking Dead did the premise you speculated about, Chris. Rick Grimes woke up from a 3 weeks coma and walked unsuspectingly into an apocalyptic world. Instead of Sonic Hearing Aliens, he encountered human zombies...
umm no. Rick was out for 5 weeks. and that’s 35 days. not day 1.
One of the most emotional endings I’ve seen in a long time 😭
Yeah I was not expecting that! Good film overall. Can’t wait for part 3 and the new game
What happens? Do they die?
This is a nit pick but it would have had more meaning if she played the piano instead
@@taiwothomas5759 yeah it would of been dope but I get why. One nit pick I had was I wanted them to have have a bit of learning curve figuring out what set the death angels off. And I guess a bit more of the military trying to combat them. Still a great movie and a consistently well made horror franchise.
@@lesryglrhfohser I don’t wanna spoil it. Give it a watch this weekend
Sam carrying Frodo? can't be a coincidence...
7 minutes video and 2:30 of mattress ad. Oof
As a TH-cam premium user it pisses me off
Stuckmanns idea of what to see in this film verse reminded me of Jared Leto being on one of his retreats and coming back having no idea what Covid was or that it was everywhere
You would think this guy would realize that a 2 minute ad on a 7:32 video is a BAD IDEA! Nope, not Chris! He no longer gives actual reviews, just ads and plot summaries. This channel has become a joke.
Someone commented about want to see a A Quiet Place III . I agree especially since the franchise has done such an excellent and worked so hard at establishing and making us care about the original characters. I actually cried in the first movie when the father was signing to his daughter that he did in fact love her moments before he sacrificed his life for his children. That first film took me by total surprise. I have felt so much for characters in a horror film possibly ever and I'm a fan of the genre. Most of the time the children are through away characters. The writers, actors, director drew such fully-developed characters, especially in the daughter, it add that much more dimension to the film. The filmmakers can't just drop that family's story without resolution. Chris, I agree. I would also like to know more the creatures. I'm excited to see what we learn about them in this film, but it's similar to the aliens in the Alien franchise. The first two films were excellent. The first perhaps a groundbreaking masterpiece. By the 2nd film I wanted to know where the aliens were from and what their ultimate goal was. They, as the monsters in this franchise, are clearly intelligent and not just mindless killing machines. They came to earth for a reason. I love your reviews Chris!
I don't know whether this is a good idea or not but i'm honestly interested to see a crossover movie between A Quiet Place and Cloverfield. Given that both franchises are owned by Paramount Pictures and it has a bit of similar concept, who knows it might happen someday. Never say never.....
There were rumours floating around at one point that the first one was in the Cloverfield universe, but because of the poor reception of The Cloverfield Paradox, they abandoned the idea (same went for Overlord)
This needs to be a series, each day being one episode.
I'm saying this because it felt way to short.
my favorite part of chris stuckmans videos is fast-forwarding the stupid ad he puts in his videos at the beginning.
BAD: it's the first one I watched. GOOD: Now I can watch all 3 in succession!
Writers were unrealistic. People don't panic and then repeatedly scream: "we're all gonna die!" when our secondary character had to cover his mouth. Or when she was under a car and a mab grabbed her leg... and begged for help. What?! Unrealistic and out of touch with how strangers interact. Haha and the machine turning on loudly.. so the male nurse goes and turns it off and then... his shirt rips. Those writers, man
You've clearly never been in an emergency situation or had to deal with somebody experiencing a panic attack or psychotic episode. When under enough stress, there are plenty of people who ABSOLUTELY would scream and freak out in that situation. Drowning people will grab onto their rescuers and force their heads underwater despite that being bad for them as well. People who are panicking do weird and nonsensical shit ALL the time
@@GoddoDoggo Wrong. Not once the people understand that yelling will kill everyone. Panic attacks and losing one's emotions in the moment would not manifest by randomly lashing out AT ANOTHER person if the person is not the helper. You are just trying to contradict. But we'll agree to disagree
I loved the cat and Eric. I would totally be like him.
ad too long.
I like the idea of a group isolated at a retreat emerging a month later. Agree most would bite it, just like the huge crowd thinking they were being quiet. But the story could select a few introverts from the retreat as survivors.
We have to sit through 2 minute long mattress ads now? Come on man
Slide the bar past the ad? Simple.
@@krissflavoredx Thanks for that revelation sherlock
Just skip ahead who gives a shit
@@chickennuggetchickenwing6972 Wow another genius here. I didn't say it was a huge deal. But it was annoying, so I commented on it. If you don't have anything relevant to add, move along kid
5:05 yes, the idea behind it is so good that in the right hands this could potentially become a never-ending franchise.
imagine: you could make a TV series with episodes (or seasons) completely disconnected from each other but connected only by the alien invasion, in which each episode (or again, season) tells the story of different characters who face that situation.
i'm thinking to a Black Mirror or American Horror Story kind of thing.
I love the Super Mario Bros. shirt you're wearing in this review
Good lord, thank god for Sponsorblock.
How to get that?😢
Hahaha hear hear! I saw that green section and winced
I don’t think we always need or should get background and motivation for these type of movies. Leave it to the imagination, that’s where the horror is. Sometimes, less is more!
2:21 Review starts.
If you dont like the ads, pay this man directly.
Ok how can I send him a giant stinking turd 😂
The whole movie is filled with contradictions. Like manic and violent librarians the aliens try to make people be quiet, but they can do nothing about wind, waves, storms, rain, waterfalls, birds, dogs, cows, sheep, etc. Earth is very noisy, but it’s just people they resent? And how about their entry to Earth, roaring and smashing and crashing into the atmosphere. It’s a wonder they don’t all wear earmuffs.
I kept jumping and almost screamed 😱 during the suspense scenes 😅. Great plot.
But does the cat survive!?
Yes
I agree that we got a little info of Eric , but hey he survived!
They might be saving it for the next movies if they plan to keep his character.
I loved how you expressed what you like to see, I mean we all have that I think. For me I want to see this in a way there are lots of characters connected and they try to contact each other while the aliens threaten them just like TWD trying to get their member , also would love to have the aspect of people being antagonist too while this is happening .
Stopped watching Chris Stuckmann basically since he started the whole Shelby Oaks thing. His reviews aren't reviews but some sort of patting the director on the back and saying nice things about him. He's playing it way too safe and naturally he has to suck up to the machine to succeed so his reviews have suffered. Hope I'm proven wrong in the future though.
Idk why you felt the need to announce this. Sorry you’re not happy, but also too bad lol. There are plenty of other movie review channels out there. God forbid Chris has to censor his thoughts a little because he wants to make his own movie and you don’t get ahead in Hollywood by shit talking other people’s work. That’s just how it goes.
in terms of the logic gears turning in my brain, this was the best one. i don't know why but i can't help but pick at the other 2.
