Love this!! Country boys can survive no doubt. But so can country girls. We can shoot it, skin it, and cook it to perfection. We plant it, can it, store it. We also know how to cook on the fire and in the ground. We can take care of our families. It's what we do.
Okay, I agree with all that. But can you cook real grits, make real Southern tea just like Momma could, and know who gets to hold the bag on the snipe hunt???
Agreed. I just hope he can find the best video. The studio version is the best. The Lives aren't that good for some reason. I mean, any Bocephus, is better than no Bocephus, but I think the studio is the way to go if he's listening for the first time. 👍🥳
Really glad to hear you are gaining an understanding of the real importance of 2A as you mature Wilburn! That is very important for the foundation that holds us together! 1A free speech, 2A the right to defend free speech. Not an accident!
I live deep in the woods. I might see a city once every 2 or 3 years. Different life here. No racism. People are judged by their actions, not anything else. Listen to crickets and frogs at night. Hunt deep in the woods. Grow my own food. Fish. Nothing like a simple life.
If you continue to do more country songs, you really should do several by George Strait. He is known as the “King of country” and has more #1 hits than any other country artist (60 #1s). His biggest and best known songs were in the 80s and 90s. Some classics I would suggest are: The Chair, Amarillo By Morning, You Look So Good in Love, Fool Hearted Memory, Love Without End Amen, Carried Away, Cross My Heart, Nobody in His Right Mind Would Have Left Her, Ocean Front Property, Check Yes or No,
A Country Boy Can Survive Hank Williams Jr. The preacher man says it's the end of time And the Mississippi River, she's a-goin' dry The interest is up and the stock market's down And you only get mugged if you go downtown I live back in the woods you see My woman and the kids and the dogs and me I got a shotgun, a rifle and a four-wheel drive And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I can plow a field all day long I can catch catfish from dusk 'til dawn (Yeah) We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too Ain't too many things these old boys can't do We grow good-ole tomatoes and homemade wine And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive Because you can't starve us out and you can't make us run 'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns We say grace, and we say ma'am If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn We came from the West Virginia coal mines And the Rocky Mountains, and the western skies And we can skin a buck, we can run a trot line And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I had a good friend in New York City He never called me by my name, just Hillbilly My grandpa taught me how to live off the land And his taught him to be a businessman He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights And I'd send him some homemade wine But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife For 43 dollars, my friend lost his life I'd love to spit some Beech-Nut in that dude's eyes And shoot him with my old .45 'Cause a country boy can survive Country folks can survive 'Cause you can't starve us out and you can't make us run 'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns We say grace, and we say ma'am If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn We're from North California and South Alabam' And little towns all around this land And we can skin a buck, and run a trotline And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive A country boy can survive Country folks can survive
I love how you closed your eyes and were just jamming. I feel like that’s how you’re supposed to listen to these country stories, really feel and visualize what he’s saying. Love it ❤️
I'm mostly 60's hippy tunes and acid rock , blues but I dig Hank Jr... Check out this country singer David Allen Coe... You never called me by my name... ✌️
My favorite since 1965. Saw him many times in concert. Never disappointed with any of them. I've had my picture taken with him 21 different times, back when you could get near him in the 70's. He plays just about every instrument.
I'm 30. Hank Williams Jr, and his dad, Hank Williams Sr, are two of my top favorite artists. Both are legends in the genre. Both also have a lot of great hits. This song is almost like an anthem to southerners and rural folk. You'd be hard pressed to find someone rural who hasn't heard this. I don't listen to this particular track as much anymore, simply because I've heard it so many times growing up. How a lot of artists have that 1 particular song that most people know or think of when they think about that artist, this is that track for Hank Jr. I highly prefer country made before the 2000's, and I don't care how old it is. Good music is good music. I stopped listening to modern country, because I generally don't like the sound or the overall theme or content of the song. Every once in awhile I'll come across something new that I like, but it's usually something that's more underground.
Since you reacted to Buck Owens and you want to get into some more country, you should listen to Dwight Yoakam. He looked up to Buck Owens and had a "Bakersfield " style to his music. He had tons of hits: "Guitars and Cadillacs", "Little Sister","Fast as You" and even did a duet with Buck Owens on"Streets of Bakersfield "
If you enjoyed the Buck Owens video, you might check out, for giggles and grins, when the Beatles did Buck Owens 'Act Naturally' on the Ed Sullivan show. :)
Apparently Dwight look up to Elvis to because you did three of his songs and I love Dwight Yoakam he's got a little unique I don't know what it is and I know he kind of sounds like Buck Owens a little bit but to me he's better than Buck Owens but anyway yeah I think he loved Elvis to man
I grew up a late 60's 70's teenager in the great ROCK era and never gave much thought to Hank JR, but when a respected friend turned me onto this song in particular, I was shocked at how rockin' good it was. Never judge a book by its cover. Great vibe and lyrics in this one. Cool honest reaction, (as always) WILL B. Peace
The entire premise of this classic song is "leave my family, friends and myself alone and I'll leave you alone". For those of us who grew up outside of tiny towns this is us and our mentality.
In 1983 I got to see the best concert I ever went to. In My Hometown of Wilmington, NC a young up and coming Group called Alabama was the Warmup act for Hank Williams JR. We knew that Alabama would make it big. Both Alabama and Hank Williams JR. are in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Please react to Hank Williams JR song Family Tradition.
Hank Williams Jr has some great tunes. For another side of him check out his song Born to Boogie (video is a performance worth a watch). Other top suggestions for you are: Come On Over To The Country My Name is Bocephus (Van Halen is his backing band minus their singer) Other songs- This Ain't Dynasty I'm For Love If It Will It Will All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight and All My Rowdy Friends Are Settling Down (2 songs).
I like Jr’s songs, but I’m a big fan of his father. His father was a wordsmith genius and there was more to his songs, his lyrics then just on the surface. Sadly though his father died young, leaving Jr when he was very young. Hank Williams (Sr) was one of the first artist that made an impression on me when I was very young, earliest memory because he was prevalent on AM radio, well before the rock era took over.

Country artist suggestions... Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Garth Brooks, George Jones, George Strait, Marty Robbins, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn... That'll do for starters ... LOL
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE react to Hank Williams Sr. I'm not saying not to react to Jr, but when it comes to country music Hank Williams Sr. is essential. Hank Williams died at the age of 29 in 1953. Please anything by Hank Williams Sr. I think I will have to send you a list of songs, because like Bob Dylan there are a lot of covers on YT saying it Hank Williams Sr.
Former Fresnan here who grew up listening to "old school" country before it was old school - was just country. I'm more into classic rock these days (again, simply rock back in my youth), but you nailed it when you said, "real". That's the reason it will never go away. Appreciate your take on this awesome classic my central san joaquin valley brother. :)
Hank will be 74 this year and has spent 65+ years performing, 5+decades of his own music. He survived almost over dosing on pills to surviving Falling off the side of a mountain, all before 79. He spent the 80's dominating the charts, winning grammys, multi-time entertainer of the year.
Good stuff. I grew up in the city in the 60s and 70s. I was rock all the way. But on that journey I have listened to country because I did grow up in Oklahoma City, it is Oklahoma. Dad took us to see Jerry Lee Lewis in concert. Saw Conway Twitty. So, that said there are songs love. I also love the music from people from here. Like Garth Brooks. Toby Keith. Reba McIntyre. Carrie Underwood. Songs like Kiss my country ass. That is my top favorite. Friends in low places. Coat of many colors. Think before you cheat. Not in Oklahoma anymore. These boys round here. The angry American. Good luck. It is a fun road to walk. Still a rocker, just love music. All music. 🖤
Bakersfield Sound is what my dad said it was called. I didn’t appreciate country music until I got older. I listen to everything pretty much. I too enjoy the stories told in different genres, from people with different backgrounds. But yeah, I like Merle, Toby, and Hank Jr. now that I’m older. Thanks for the reactions. Peace.
When world war 3 starts make sure you're in good with your neighborhood county Boy or Girl, we will get you through. Shout out to all my Mississippi stump jumpers.
Love your country reactions. Please check out another country artist that came up in your area of Bakersfield. His name is Dwight Yoakum. He played around the Bakersfield/Shafter area before he got his first record deal. His song She wore red dresses is amazing. Please check it out brother
Chod, you need to go down the rabbit hole of the band Alabama. Do many hits, so many to pick from. Mountain Music Tennessee River Gonna Have Party Song of The South Just a few to get you started.
Late seeing your reaction to this ..... follower of Hank Jr. Like the reaction, and what you said is very true about this song and genre. While I am a true Slipknot, Rammstein, etc fan .... there are certain older country artists I love, Dolly, Reba, and Hank Jr are some of them. He speaks the truth, tradition, life itself, and the way things are.
LAURA NYRO. Nothing else needs to be said. Here Duane 'Skydog' Allman backs her up. Her voice is haunting, her songwriting is amazing She sang all her own harmonies which was all but unheard of in the 60's and early 70's (Except on the 'It's Going to Take A Miracle' album w/LaBelle Give her a listen. You will be PLEASANTLY surprised. Her catalog is extensive considering she walked away from the music business in her mid 20's 'BEADS OF SWEAT' th-cam.com/video/XXhDLmoL0ys/w-d-xo.html
cool reaction! first time on your channel. I love this song, and I appreciated how you just listened and saved the commentary for the end! I'll be checking out some more!
Love your opinion on this. My favorite out take that gives the attitude “… we say grace, and we say ma’am, if you ain’t into that, we don’t give a damn…”
Chod… I didn’t know you were from Bako! I was out there for 40+ years, working at (AGM) HOT 94.1+ 5 more stations. Living in Oklahoma now. I enjoy your reactions! God Bless, brother.
It's awesome that a song like this can move you so much from a different perspective. That's what it's all about being open to new experiences and learning, understanding and growing as a person through art whatever that art you resonate with. It's wonderful to see you open to it.
Back in the dust bowl days of the 1930’s lots of Okies, a generic term for people from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and any of the other hard-hit areas during the dust bowl moved out west to California, and especially around the Bakersfield area, they brought their music with them, but since you live there you probably know that.
Hey man loving these videos, if you'd like to get into some more country you should check out Colter Wall. He's a newer artist but he's bringing that classic country feeling back into the music. Check out his song Devil Wears A Suit And Tie from the Original 16 brewery sessions, you won't be disappointed.
Country IS America. We gotta stay GROUNDED and bare feet on the ground and working the land is how. Harvesting the wild game is as old as history itself and Americans were and are experts at it and if we lose it and lose our conection to the land, growing things and harvesting things , its ALL over. If America is lost, the world is lost.
Some songs to review that are stories: Whiskey Lullaby-by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss (90's) Colder Weather-Zac Brown Band (2000's) Coward of the County-Kenny Rodgers (some consider this 70's pop) A classic country song; Crazy-Patsy Kline (I believe a famous Jazz singer from the sixties liked this song. He played it once at an all black club and one of his friends asked him why he played it. He said the same thing you did, it was the story) (early 60's late 50's) Sixteen Tons-Tennessee Ernie Ford-this is a classic (60's) Big Bad John-Jimmy Dean (60's) Devil Went Down to Georgia-Charles Daniels (70's) I apologize if you've reviewed these songs already. I just subscribed haven't looked at your playlist yet. Was inspired by what you said to write this down before I looked.
Brother just know this is the song of our life in the south and with the world the way it is your welcome to join us we ain't what you might think we love everyone
I live in Bakersfield too, now I have to subscribe. I’m kind of involved in the local country music scene and have performed with the Tommy Hays Band at Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace a few times, as well as other venues. Glad to find you on here. 👍🏻
I live in brysoncity north carolina in the smokey mountain s and we survived 🙌 seen him in concert before he fell off the ⛰ worked 5 of his shows also great dude aloha
Tonic - if you could only see Live - lighting crashes Gin blossoms - found out about you Train - meet virgina Vertical horizon - everything she wants Sarah maclahlan - possesion (live) Building a mystery
You need to do a reaction to Gary Allan, most underrated singer in Country Music today! He’s west coast country from CA. I suggest Watchin’ Airplanes, Learning How to Bend, or Every Storm Runs out of Rain
Lot's of great story telling in older country, and much of the newer as well. Another one you'd likely enjoy is Jamey Johnson "In Color". Full of heart, and a good video.
Im a country girl and i can relate to this song. This is how we do life. But above all is God!
Love this!! Country boys can survive no doubt. But so can country girls. We can shoot it, skin it, and cook it to perfection. We plant it, can it, store it. We also know how to cook on the fire and in the ground. We can take care of our families. It's what we do.
No doubt Southern folks can survive
Amen!! 💜💚💛✌️

Okay, I agree with all that. But can you cook real grits, make real Southern tea just like Momma could, and know who gets to hold the bag on the snipe hunt???

You should check out his song “Family Tradition” it’s another great Hank Williams Jr. classic. His dad was a legendary country singer. 👍
Agreed. I just hope he can find the best video. The studio version is the best. The Lives aren't that good for some reason. I mean, any Bocephus, is better than no Bocephus, but I think the studio is the way to go if he's listening for the first time. 👍🥳

Once you get south of the Ole Red River, Bob Wills is still the King.
A Country Boy Can Survive
Hank Williams Jr.
The preacher man says it's the end of time
And the Mississippi River, she's a-goin' dry
The interest is up and the stock market's down
And you only get mugged if you go downtown
I live back in the woods you see
My woman and the kids and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun, a rifle and a four-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk 'til dawn (Yeah)
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain't too many things these old boys can't do
We grow good-ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
Because you can't starve us out and you can't make us run
'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns
We say grace, and we say ma'am
If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn
We came from the West Virginia coal mines
And the Rocky Mountains, and the western skies
And we can skin a buck, we can run a trot line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just Hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I'd send him some homemade wine
But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars, my friend lost his life
I'd love to spit some Beech-Nut in that dude's eyes
And shoot him with my old .45
'Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
'Cause you can't starve us out and you can't make us run
'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns
We say grace, and we say ma'am
If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn
We're from North California and South Alabam'
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck, and run a trotline
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
A country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Hank Jr. Is on the hippie side a little bit
The Ride is Coe's banger. One of my fave country tunes.

I like it when a young whippersnapper that says a lot for that older music it's stood the test of time
There's some really good newer country artists. Charley Crockett, Colter Wall, Vincent Neil Emerson, Joshua Ray Walker, etc
Since you reacted to Buck Owens and you want to get into some more country, you should listen to Dwight Yoakam. He looked up to Buck Owens and had a "Bakersfield " style to his music. Hank Williams Jr is phenomenal and old country specifically Outlaw country music is the best!!!!
Great song! My father loved this song.
Hi Wilburn, just watched your video & as chic from the Deep South I appreciate your respectful views.
Great choice. Love the fact you're giving all genres a fair shake. Great music is great music, no matter the flavor.
For a real cross-genre duet, listen to Willie Nelson and Ray Charles do Seven Spanish Angels. Two legends performing a great song.
late 60's through the 70's is the sweet spot for real country music
I grew up a late 60's 70's teenager in the great ROCK era and never gave much thought to Hank JR, but when a respected friend turned me onto this song in particular, I was shocked at how rockin' good it was. Never judge a book by its cover.
Great vibe and lyrics in this one.

“All My Rowdy Friends are Coming Over Tonight” and All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down”. 2 of his best!
As an older person, I agree that older country is much better. Someone said that the new country music is basically '90s rock with a southern accent.
Bocephus is his nickname. He's got some great songs.
That's how i grew up. Putting up all veggies. We have cattle. Dove shoots. Love Hank! Love your channel!
Hank senior and Hank Jr. Both country legends.

I agree we should be taking better care of our farmers.
Some songs to review that are stories:
Whiskey Lullaby-by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss (90's)
Colder Weather-Zac Brown Band (2000's)
Coward of the County-Kenny Rodgers (some consider this 70's pop)
A classic country song; Crazy-Patsy Kline (I believe a famous Jazz singer from the sixties liked this song. He played it once at an all black club and one of his friends asked him why he played it. He said the same thing you did, it was the story) (early 60's late 50's)
Sixteen Tons-Tennessee Ernie Ford-this is a classic (60's)
Big Bad John-Jimmy Dean (60's)
Devil Went Down to Georgia-Charles Daniels (70's)
I apologize if you've reviewed these songs already. I just subscribed haven't looked at your playlist yet. Was inspired by what you said to write this down before I looked.

See the fun, party side of Hank Jr in That's How They Do It In Dixie.
I live in Bakersfield too, now I have to subscribe. I’m kind of involved in the local country music scene and have performed with the Tommy Hays Band at Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace a few times, as well as other venues. Glad to find you on here. 👍🏻
Yes, country folks know. He's absolutely right. I can do just about anything. I would say survival, but actually it would be thriving.

Merle made some Great albums with Willie, and his Live Rainbow Stew is a really Great CD.
His father is a true legend. His son is my favorite. Try Hank 3 "Straight to hell."
Great reaction.
Dinosaur...is another great from Bocephus (Hank Williams jr.)He has many great songs!!
You need to do a reaction to Gary Allan, most underrated singer in Country Music today! He’s west coast country from CA. I suggest Watchin’ Airplanes, Learning How to Bend, or Every Storm Runs out of Rain
I love Gary! Songs about Rain is another fave.
Epic reaction bro!!!
Love you show ! It shows how different we aren't!

Buck Owens/ Dwight Yoakum "Streets of Bakersfield" is an awesome song.

You should check out his " Attitude Adjustment ". It's hillarious.
Listen to Bakersfields Dwight Yoakum's "I Sang Dixie"
Lot's of great story telling in older country, and much of the newer as well. Another one you'd likely enjoy is Jamey Johnson "In Color". Full of heart, and a good video.
Great reaction! Looks like you are on a roll today. Keep up the great work!
