Mastering Elder Scrolls Online Weaving and Animation Cancelling will greatly improve your parse. Weaving is not difficult, and neither is animation cancelling! Do not be scared away by the terminology, its all much simpler than it sounds! - เกม
Great video. You alluded to this without actually saying it, but just to be clear: Light attacks and skills have a minimum 1 second cooldown. This means that the best you can do with light attacks is 1 per second. Same with skills. However, what animation canceling is enabling is the ability to do both so that - theoretically - you could have one light attack AND one skill every second as opposed to one light attack OR one skill every second. Some videos just talk about animation cancelling as if that is the important thing, but really that is just getting you the 1 skill per second, and many players will get close to that without really thinking about it, just by playing the same character for a while. But if you do not weave, then you are not getting the big DPS boost of doing two things at once, and that is where a lot of players are not reaching their higher potential.

Your videos are the easiest to understand and really fill me with hope and understanding to improve on something that pretty much no one else bothers to explain to players. People can post all the tips and tricks and Meta builds all they want but those are really catered to the elite players in the game.

If you're happy with mediocre sub par builds that's fine but keep in mind no youtuber will ever show you their real build why ? the answer is simple they don't want you to be better or as strong as them think about it mate

Wow thank you so much for that vid it took me such a long time to finally master it because of your tips and good explanation... I saw pro players doing it but I knew I still didn't quite get the hang of it... now practicing on a dummy with your tricks is doing it... it's all about time casting right after a light attack and trying to find the perfect timing!

I'm using one of thouse mouse with numpads on the sides and I just can't do it. It's so frustrating.
That's the only way I can play MMOs. SO much better than having to hit the buttons on a keyboard lol. But I've also been using that mouse for 10 years now. I enter all number sequences on my PC with the mouse. Phone number, address, CC number. SSN. It's just more natural to use the mouse numbers than the keyboard numbers.

Is there a minimum number of milliseconds that must pass in a light attack animation before you can do a registered instant cast ability, and how about milliseconds after an instant cast ability before a registered light attack can be done?
Yes. There is a required time gap it seems but only just barely. Find it by parsing with trial and error. if your light attack doesnt go off, you cast the ability too soon!
So as a stamblade: light atk -> surprise atk -> bash -> repeat?
I am like ... the worst. Such casual. Much button smasher. Normally don't group or do dungeons so it's whatever. But I'm gonna try to actually get better because I want to do more challenging content, plus I just want to be more effective. This is a great video and the new changes with Flames of Ambition are a great opportunity to sort of start over.
What is proc'n luminous shards like that where you get the synergy solo?
I dunno if this is normal, but I found a combo that kinda "machine guns" arrows, but it eats a full stamina bar (all in stamina attribute points) like it's nothing.
Heym I've watched some videos on weaving but yours definetely explained the whole matter very thoroughly and in detail. Thank you for that! However, I still got one question. People always talk about this "squeezing in" the LAs but I always wonder how it does look on the keyboard and mouse tho? Like, do you press LA mouse key and ability key at the same time? Do you press the mouse key just before that. I think that would help a lot just to see or understand not only what weaving does in game but the actual physical aspect of it, how you do this on your keyboard. If you could comment on that, that would be absolutely fantastic! Thank you :)

hey man, what would be an acceptable weave time for a channeled ability. im not sure if i missed it in the video or not.
I've actually been really struggling to parse high numbers. I've been practicing weaving etc. I have a pretty much, fully kitted necro, x5 dusa x5 mother's sorrow. Bloodthirsty jewls. perfected staff etc.
But I'm only really able to parse 40k on a 21m dummy.
I'll try use this addon.
But unfortunately i have playing with around 230 latency. I have a feeling this is either causing attacks to not go off (although I pay close attention to it and they do seem to) or it makes my dps addons miss count. Because I think I'm pulling half the damage I should. It's crazy
same thing me too.I have false god bloodthirsty jewels mother sorrow and iceheart but only can do 38k on trial dummy.Liht attacks are 0.75
hahas, I think I did this multiple times during boss fights but didn't notice it, since I was more focused at the boss hp and my own, since most of the time I'm just solo-ing them
Hi, thank you very much for the video. Is it still up to date? I just noticed I can spam light attacks pretty much as fast as I can click. They don't seem to have 1 second cooldown. If they have one, it's significantly shorter. I saw the damage from the light attacks so it's not only an animation thing.

Is "stone giant" skill worth to use as a main damaging skill with weaving? I have copied some DK rotation with this skill but animation of it looks too long, so I could reach only 0.55 la/s with using only LA+Stone Giant with dps around 20k on 20mil dummy.
How do you get that green circle underneath your character when you cast a buff? i tried turning my combat cues to max but mine dont appear with like my restoration spells and stuff
It's cause of the Trial Dummy
Do you have to block cancel every ability in the rotation? Or just weaving and barswap long animations?
you don't have to block cancel, ever. Block cancelling was never very important, and it was made even less so when bash damage was reduced. It can be useful in a pinch if you need to mitigate damage, but as a means of improving your parse, no. not at all. Just make sure you are light attacking between abilities

you cancel the light attack, not the channeled ability. animation cancelling refers to the light attack mostly

When i try LA weaving my dps literally goes DOWN....I dunno what Im doing wrong.....
That's odd, its free damage. As in if you aren't light attacking during the global cool down you are literally doing nothing while you wait for the global cool down to reset so you can cast your next ability. Its likely you just need to practice your weaving so that it isnt disrupting your rotation :)

How do you get to .80 when you can only execute 1 ability and 1 LA per second 🤔
as long as you light attack right before you press your ability you can do both a light attack and an ability at the same time. the ability will cancel the light attack animation, but the light attack will still register. The cool down for abilities is less than one second, same for light attacks. this means we could theoretically achieve higher than 1.0 light attacks per second, but because of bar swaps, synergies and simple human error we are usually only able to obtain a little less than that, about .8 or .9 in a great parse. hope that helps!
Lucky Ghost My bad. I misunderstood how LA helper add on works. .8 or .9 is derived from how many LAs per second. For some reason I thought it was based on a ratio of 100 LAs per minute (60 seconds). 😂

Im gonna have to get this down on console, pray for me. Cause my whole build is built around how well I can weave lol. Kinras, Kjalnars, and Relequen. Gonna basically just run my daily dungeons and parse for a little bit. The better I weave the better my dps will be. esp with the spectral bow proc as well.
Explain HOW you do it not waht you do... how are the buttons set up ?
Default buttons. Left click is light attack. Skills are 1 through 5. Not much to explain there
@@LuckyGhost So, with heavy attack melee.. You have to press the button longer then you would do a light attack.. How do you animation cancel a melee heavy attack for it to count as heavy attack. You hold the button slightly longer then you would for light attack, then bar swap ?
@@CrystalVizion holding in the button for a second makes it a medium attack. Pretty sure theres no way to cancel HA early.

Strike, yes it does! it is a core part of the combat system in ESO!
It does but the lag makes it tricky some times. And a lot of people including mysrlf have a periodic bar swap glitch. The game wont let you bar swap and you have to back roll twice to get unstuck
rikmang yeah I notice I do my light attack that cancels the previous skill but the light attack does no dmg?

Its so fucking annoying, immersion breaking, gamey, and makes an already spammy game 3x as spammy as it otherwise would be.
I don't want to push 3-5 buttons every second when I play a video game.

For a lot of people, it really makes the combat stand out in ESO because of the pace of the attacking.

Its a pointless and stupid unintended mechanic that can't be fixed because the top end dps chasing part of the community would implode.

@@LuckyGhost I just noticed how big the difference is with this dummy. Never paid attention to the buffs it offers, and I'm able to get numbers closer to yours with that one (I always trained with a khajiit skeleton). So I'm not as useless as expected! :P
Btw do you know what DPS I can expect with good weaving when I focus on a survival build? (Brawler as spammable, Briarheart Axe & Jewelry, Tzogvin armor and Selene monster, Maelstrom on backbar)
@@skalibran yes the trial dummy feels significantly better to parse on and will more better replicate actual group conditions (buffs /sustain). I hate that this is a thing, it's clearly not intended and the fact I have to do something that makes ESO already janky combat even more janky sucks. I shouldn't have to resort to cheesing eso combat system in order to be effective dps in dungeons and trials.

I played the beta and I knew ESO wouldnt make it because I had already played a few betas (WOW, Fiesta, Swtore,...). Now I wanted to look at it again because enough time has passed but that animation cancelling "combatstyle" is horrible. Thanks for the video it was very informative but the combat is not my cup of tea.
It's a shame ESO is such a RSI game, I'd play it if it wasn't. I'd prefer just to use the abilities strategically rather than success be based on thousands of extra clicks.

God this games combat is absolutely terrible.. every time I think about playing again, I just pull up a animation cancel video to remind my self why this game sucks.
I hope that you know,that only DPS characters need it. Tanks, healers don't ^^ so you can forget all about it, if you make a tank character
And that's why ESO combat sucks...
I love the game but shit like this is why people just quit, plus:
1. They can't properly explain the game to new players so unless you want to spend hours watching guides you're fucked
2. They rebrand a broken mechanic as an "essential combat mechanic"
@@DsgSleazy Ikr, imagine if they added a 1s gcd shared between everything and added 15s cd to weapon swap, it would fix PvP instantly and made PvE more challenging for experienced players

So do you Animation Cancel your Anime shows? Like do you watch Dragon Ball Z and Goku fires off INVISIBLE Kamehameha waves? LMAO. Animation Cancelling makes no sense. If you dont want animation then why are you playing video games? Video games are 100% animation NOT Real Digital Imaging soooo why is Animation Cancelling even a thing, it even causes people to disconnect and receive a blue screen. So Assanign!!!
Found the need to hit an extra input for every other input extremely annoying. Played for a year and then said F this, clicking like a ten year old binging on energy drinks. ES for the hyperactive, future carpel tunnel victims. Irks me even more, the fact it wasn't even intended. They just left it anyway. Mid game didn't matter, but totally ruined the late game for me.
I play on Xbox... The bar swap is either left on d-pad, or on template c, holding y... To bar swap on A you almost have to stop moving or use your right hand, and holding y on template c takes a whole second, which is ridiculously slow in pvp combat... Is this just something you have to get used to or am I doing something wrong?
How does this work for the PS4?
