I'm John a DEBT FREE Millennial, an expat in China, an educator, an entreprenuer and investor. I’ve been living and working in China for over 13 years. I’m working on reaching financial freedom so I can retire early abroad.
Here on TH-cam I talk about international living. I hope I can help you reach a better understanding of what it's like to live abroad so you can decide if living abroad is for you.
This channel takes you through my journey of living abroad as well as how I invest in order to reach financial freedom so I can retire aborad. I share all of this in hopes that it helps you in some way.

Nice one, John. I enjoy watching your true, down to earth daily life story on video. Keep it rolling in. Cheerio!
Thanks a lot.
Like your videos, calm and factual.
Thanks 🙏
I'd like to see the channel evolve into the China equivalent of 'Abroad in Japan', where you travel to interesting places in China with your friends.
Even some videos where you show and taste different types of 'weird' Chinese snack foods and rate them.
And the same with 'weird' restaurant foods like Sea Slugs, pig's blood, chicken's feet, donkey, horse and dog etc.
Well, maybe coming soon. Especially when I get more free time.
I’ll check out abroad in Japan and see if I can get some ideas and inspiration.
Small scooters are generally a topic. I would go all over there, especially when it’s warm. Especially at night.
I love driving around on warm summer nights. It's coming soon, I'll make some night ride videos.
@@viewpointabroad bliss! 🙌
The music is fine. I’m picky about where I live and consider different factors like neighborhood safety(which I understand isn’t an issue anywhere in China),having a nice modern place and being reasonably close to great restaurants and/or a great supermarket. That being said, being able to walk to work is a huge benefit. 👍
Drivers in Guangdong seem to drive pretty normally like drivers in other large cities. I don’t see any crazy antics on the streets from what you’ve shown. Thanks for sharing John!
Here, the drivers don't do too much crazy stuff. you will see it occasionally but not so much. Shunde is a pretty slow paced city and nobody is in a rush
Had to change the music out due to copyright 🥲.
Yes, I also sometimes want to edit cool videos with good music, but when I think about it, they will have to be changed or deleted if anything happens. This is a disaster. Big disadvantage of TH-cam.
Yeah I had some cool music but had to go edit it out 😪@@igrooshechny
@@viewpointabroad Yes, thank God there is a lot of music whose authors are not against using it on TH-cam, much less cutting it out or drowning it out.
Great to see the real China
看得我好爽,看着这种骑行视频睡觉刚刚好😂但是就不用参考我的意见了,因为很明显我就是中国人,
支持!🎉
Thanks for watching 😀
My heart almost jumped out of my mouth when i thought you were about to collide with the car from the right @5:52
Hhahaha no. The footage is sped up. It wasn’t close as it looks.
It’s strange that TH-cam subtitles are not ready yet, you’ll have to wait to understand everything))) Your videos somehow help me learn English better))) We'll have to wait a bit, apparently. Will watch later.
I need to study Russian , I started to study a little but didn't get the chance to have many classes.
@@viewpointabroad It's great that there is such an opportunity. The whole difficulty in learning Russian, as I understand it, for a foreigner is the endings of words. A lot depends on this. But I think that after learning Chinese this is not a problem. If only people had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language environment, even if only for a while. The brain would automatically learn languages. There is nowhere to go. Google translator is also, as I understand it, quite good)))
@@viewpointabroad wow, why?

@@viewpointabroad good luck! it will be a long journey
I liked the music kinda laid back and relaxed
Love the conbination of driving and walking with narration, though a helmet cam would be great as that phone side view gets me a little 'seasick' Fun video!
Ok. Thanks for the feedback. I will do a walking video next time. I’ll try to get a better camera for mounting soon also so the videos will be smoother when driving
Excellent, thanks John xx
Thanks for watching
These kind of videos are also great, was relaxing to watch 😊
Thanks 🙏. I’lll work on some more. I’ll try to improve the quality though.
Very interesting vlog, music is perfect, moving to China soon, appreciate your insight, regards
What city you moving too ?
Hello John, my wife is a Chinese national, we will looking in several cities, where are you living? regards, Joe
@@josephv.agliatojr.851 I’m living in foshan shunde 佛山顺德
Be careful during peak hours .
Man the way you ride in the States you get a ticket fine
This ain’t the states lol 😂
What city you live now? Remember your 1st job in Shenzheng, working there 8 years till school closed? During that time, you got MBA degree? It was paid by school? It was online study or you went back US? Thank your feedback.
I lived in Shenzhen 7 years. I’m in foshan now. No the school didn’t pay for my degree I had to pay myself. I had a bachelors already then I did mba online from here in China.
Firstly, thank you. As I know so little about China, I have the following question (Q1) and a future content request (R1):
(Q1) At this video's time stamp of 2:56, was that normal to go through a red light? Worried about your safety while taping.
(R1) Western media says China's economy has slowed down. If it's true, any videos to substantiate that for your viewers?
For red light you’re not supposed to go through but many do when there’s no traffic. As for the economy, the whole world has a slower economy. China is still growing more than most countries but a bit slower than it was before Covid.
you should better watch economist who will explain that to you. But to be brief one of the reasons is that before there were a lot of investments and credits that were the drivers of the growth and will not repeat again. One of the drivers was property sector which is in a decline and cannot be replaced by anything and account for up to 25% of economy. The biggest developer just got bankrupt by the way.
@@viewpointabroadno, China has very specific internal reasons for decline
@@Jayjay-2007 Obviously not, it’s just because of the global slowdown of the epidemic, but China is still growing, just not as fast as before. Just like Ferrari suddenly slows down, everyone thinks that Ferrari is not good, but in fact it is still Ferrari. The development of a country should not be focused on the short term. , we have to look at the long term, look at its past and future, this is the Chinese strategy.
@@davidwong325 “because of global slowdown” development market droped by 57%? And main developer with 300 B$ debt went bankrupt? You must be kidding…
🔥🔥🔥
I live in Ronggui as well
Nice. Hi neighbor 👋
Nice ride, nice trees, nice food, nice music...oh yeah nice legs…….are there more people speak Cantonese than Mandarin? Thanks for the video!
In the area I live most speak Cantonese. Most restaurants and business will use Cantonese at first but if you speak to them using mandarin they will switch to mandarin
Great video. Music choice was good.
Awesome. Thanks for watching
Is it easy to navigate the traffic?
Yeah , not bad usually except at rush hour.
Seems scary so many e bikes going in different directions 😅
