In 1986 he contracted pneumonia, which resulted in removal of part of a lung and damage to his vocal cords. He got back into singing in 1991. Still going strong... he is now 83 and resides in Dural NSW, Australia.
I always liked his records. Thought 'I Remember You' was an absolutely fabulous recording and he made many more during his career. He was one of the few British (if I can call him that) artists that consistently flew the flag for country music.
Why would he be British ?!? His folks immigrated to Australia when he was just a child - not even a teen-ager. He's considered to be Australian (especially by his accent) the world over.
humiliate? you call something this tough and hard to learn "humiliating"? what is yodeling some kinda hobo thing, something you don't need brains for? They were silent because yodeling is not a thing you can do instinctively. You have to learn it and it is not easy, not just anyone can - it's one of those things in life where people give up and never even see the finish line. @@Rooxon You misunderstood, when he said "don't want to humiliate ourselves" he meant that the audience knew how difficult it is to do so they decided not to, knowing that they will humiliate themselves when they try and fail.
